Meh big hedge funds just usa AI and insider trading now. Managers are for poor people. This is just so that they can more easily manipulate the market at night when trade volume is low and people are not paying attention.

u/wouldiwas1 24d ago
does the new policy include something about PDT?
201
u/dfddfsaadaafdssa 24d ago
No, it was a comment about how PDT rules have the opposite of the intended effect, as people end up staying in positions longer than they should. It really hurts when doing short duration options due to theta.

Thats my operating strategy until it prob causes the next financial crisis, too big to fail now, they will reshape society to find the use cases for their stuff. Ai agents trading for you etc is just the start. Whats that saying “people overestimate shit early on but underestimate it on the longterm” or something to that effect.

I mean, chances are all trading volume are 95% HFT. Why are we kidding ourselves focusing on the 5% human traders? You can trade US stocks in overseas exchanges to work around the hours or choose brokerages like IBKR for 24/5 trading.
I’m all for it. Overnight gap ups/downs driven by overseas markets are so stupid and this policy will make them less prominent going forward.
Just automate it yourself lol.

On top of this, most movement happens in off the market exchanges pre - and post market; which in essence, put retails at a disadvantage. It's a false sense of security, for markets to be closed, because they really aren't. You are secure when close the position. The people crying about this really shouldn't be trading if they can't sleep "now that the markets are always open." Ultimately, I think this is far more fair.
→ More replies (3)9
u/alice2wonderland 24d ago
Some of us have accounts that permit pre and post market trades. Albeit, you need to factor in that there are rules that say "whales first" so it's still harder for retail to trade in the after hours. For my part, I liked having a pause on all trades for at least some of the hours in a week. This favours algorithm bot trading for sure, and sounds like a recipe to discover much more about the impact of computer glitches.

Gotta keep juicing them ai stocks -> Next step, personal/customized ai agents trading for you 24/7. imagine spawning a dozen ai agents all acting like your personal trading team ala wall street in the 90s when they had people in the offices doing it. In a wsy its kind of cool/kinda dystopian/kinda wverything is made up and nothing mean anything.. but oh well. Otheriwse for the 24hrs stuff, the hedgies and big banks have been running trails on all that shit (algos and now ai agents) with crypto, and now that they have it down they are moving them into the main markets. Its a logical evolution on our unrelenting progress toward a cyberpunk dystopian hellhole. Better be rich cause youll be effed otherwise.
→ More replies (7)13
u/Trading_ape420 24d ago
Well you do know everything is made up and means nothing right? That's just a logical is. Not good or bad but just is. No way around it. It's us humans that want to have meaning with things cuz our egos need to feel important when in all reality no individual can ever be important. Just sheer size of population and even more, the whole universe ie infinity. 1 of 8 billion of anything can't be important. Let alone beyond the planet.

Right?? They must be confusing S&T with IB. Even S&T would likely not be significantly impacted because the bulge brackets already have large enough infrastructures to hire slightly bigger teams to monitor round the clock activity. Its smaller fundamental LO and L/S teams that would be kind of boned.

I'm calling it now: this rules change will be identified as the catalyst for this century's Great Depression, and the market will crash some time during Trump's next term, probably between the solar eclipse of August 2027 and the Olympics in July 2028. Wealth inequality is already insanely high. A 24-hour market run by bots will cause investor panic.

This means I can retire anywhere in the world and still have good market trading times. As of now if you live in some countries it limits you to what your investing in due to markets being closed. The whole reason crypto is so popular in Asia. There options are stay up all night trade the market or sleep at night and trade other markets. This will bring lots of funds to the market and over time will stabilize.

u/No_Feeling920 24d ago edited 24d ago
Trading already exists outside of the regular hours (e.g. among retail clients of the same select brokers offering this). The real problem, though, is attracting market makers and liquidity in general, to participate around the clock. Otherwise, you'll get really bad bid-ask spreads and thin orderbooks, unable to take any serious buying or selling pressure without wrecking the price.
Liquidity and participation is what prevents serious competition in the exchange market in general. Regardless of how low your fees are or how technically superior your trading platform is, you won't steal market share for yourself, because participants simply stay, where the spreads are the narrowest (where they can get the best prices for their orders). This creates insane momentum and a barrier of entry for new players (beside the obnoxious levels or regulatory requirements).
Opening a new exchange is not like opening a new supermarket.
