Advice New office cat needs a name!
No idea if it's a he or a she. Lives in the neighbourhood and comes in our office to chill during working hours.

Be honest, you all will call it Kitty anyway

u/TomrummetsKald Nov 14 '24
I think Toner would be appropriate for an office kitty.
Every office needs Toner

Tony Toner?
EDIT: Tony “Two-Tone” Toner

I suggest a compromise. Tone, spoken in a stereotypical NY Italian-American accent

This is what I think every time I see a post asking for cat names. If you have to ask, you're just gonna call it Kitty. It's inevitable

That’s why we named one of my cats Kitty. That and we had a 2 year old at the time so it was easy. lol

Buddy ……. Buddy at work today was extra - he was literally jumping from desk to desk. Buddy at work refused to get off my chair today because he wanted my butt warmth. Buddy at work scratched me today for moving too fast. I turned around and Buddy was taking nibbles from my tuna sandwich.

I actually have a human coworker named Buddy. 😂

u/wearing_shades_247 Nov 14 '24
Be sure to send him a screen shot of my comment, with no other context 😆

u/summerjunebird Nov 14 '24
😂 I want a follow up of his reaction if this is done.

Or a very human name, like Dave or Harper, like:
Dave got stuck behind the fridge again.
Harper couldn't keep off my desk, there's footprints all over my documents now.Imagine the horrified looks before you clarify, it's a cat.
14
u/HealthyInPublic Nov 14 '24
I definitely support this idea! My late cat had a normal human name that was a decently common name for human kids at the time... I cannot tell you how many people first assumed I was talking about a human child when I talked about him. Lol
And we just adopted a kitten and also named him a human name. He's barely been with us 3 months so far and someone has already asked me if I was talking about my son - so I had to hit 'em with the "well yes, but actually no."

My dogs name is Oliver and my last job had two co-workers with kids named Oliver.

Dave chewed up my charging cable AGAIN

u/Sketched2Life Nov 14 '24
A: "Can you convince Dave to see a Therapist, he seems like a nice guy, but he clearly needs professional help."
B: "No, seems like normal behavior, and vet fees are pretty high right now"
A: "?!"Gotta love Dave.

Okay, this, except replace Buddy with Paul. Be sure to never mention that Paul is a cat.

I was going to go with Staples (or some other common office supply word that would unintentionally also summon the cat), but this and many others are far better suggestions!
Hope OP enjoys the new 'boss' of the place!

String

u/emotionallasagna Nov 14 '24
We're Dutch and French speaking so not the best idea in a professional context because of the meaning in Dutch. 😉

What's the meaning in Dutch? And would it help to name the cat "Ficelle" instead?
(For everyone here – according to Google Translate, "Ficelle" is "String" in French. If I'm wrong about that, please let me know.)

Batman
This is Boris, I think he looks like Batman. It is cool to name a black cat as Batman or Bruce😉

How do the cat behave while visiting the office?
82
u/emotionallasagna Nov 14 '24
Still a bit shy and takes their time to come inside! We have another one that visits almost daily and he is very much at ease and will nap on our backpacks (see photo). They don't really get along but usually aren't in at the same moments.
26
u/Music_201 Nov 14 '24
Can you perhaps make a feeding station for them and provide water too?
73
u/emotionallasagna Nov 14 '24
They have a lot of water bowls stationed outside and we are not allowed to feed them since they arrived one day with a note stating they are being fed at home (tbh they are both the opposite of skinny), but we do give them a lil snack from time to time! Our office cat that's been around for over a year now even knows where and how to get to the snackies.. 😅

I read somewhere that cat improves work productivity, so good choice on allowing its entry

Sam. If it's a girl you can say it's short for Samantha.
Works on the black cat level because the witch in Bewitched was named Samantha.

Sneakers. She/he will sneak into your heart, sneak into your life, sneak into the office supplies. It looks like it has already been sneaking into the window blinds because that sure looks like a string from one. Also as a void she/he will randomly sneak off to places in which they will never be found until they choose .

Staple if he holds the office together
Post-it
Toner? My shelter recently had a set of kittens named Copy, Paste, and Toner.
