Use this thread to discuss whatever game you've been playing lately: old or new, AAA or indie, on any platform between Atari and XBox. Please don't just list off the games you're playing in your comment. Elaborate with your thoughts on the games and make it easier for other users to find what game you're talking about by putting the title in bold.

Also, please make sure to use spoiler tags if you're revealing anything about a game's plot that may significantly impact another player's experience who has not played the game yet, no matter how retro or recent the game is. You can find instructions on how to do so in the subreddit sidebar.

This thread is set to sort comments by 'new' on default.

Retrospective Here is a list of the 14 single player games I completed in 2024 and my thoughts on them

I keep a log of all single-player games I complete, here is my rundown of how 2024 went. Disclaimer, these are all my subjective opinion.

Lies of P

Playtime: 35 hours | Rating: 8/10

Lies of P is undoubtedly the best "soulslike" made by a non-FromSoft developer that I’ve played. It features a unique setting and presentation, tight and satisfying combat, and a pretty interesting story. The boss fights are fantastic, and I really enjoyed experimenting with the variety of weapons available. Overall, a big recommendation for fans of the genre.

Dredge

Playtime: 11 hours | Rating: 6.5/10

The first game I completed on my Steam Deck, Dredge is a fun little experience with a cool gameplay loop. It’s definitely memorable, but I felt it ran out of steam toward the end. As a fan of cosmic horror and H.P. Lovecraft, I appreciated the clear homage to his works. I’d recommend picking this up on sale if it piques your interest.

Dead Space (Remake)

Playtime: 14 hours | Rating: 8/10

As a fan of the original Dead Space, I was eagerly anticipating this remake, and it didn’t disappoint. This is a benchmark for how a remaster should be done—retaining everything that made the original tense and horrifying while enhancing the experience with incredible visuals and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Highly recommended for both fans of the first game and newcomers looking for a standout sci-fi horror experience.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Playtime: 20 hours | Rating: 6/10

Another Steam Deck entry, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a decently fun package, especially for Star Wars fans. It’s a chill game that I enjoyed while relaxing on the sofa. There’s a decent amount of content, though some episodes felt a little short. Not much else to say—it’s a Lego game, most people know what to expect.

Dragon’s Dogma II

Playtime: 38 hours | Rating: 5/10

This one was rough. I absolutely loved Dragon’s Dogma 1—it’s one of my all-time favorite RPGs—so I was fully on board the hype train for the sequel and picked it up on day one. Unfortunately, aside from the well-documented performance issues at launch, the story and pacing felt noticeably lacking. It felt like there was less content and fewer options than the first game, and the abrupt ending left a bad taste in my mouth. While it’s not a terrible game, it’s a big missed opportunity.

Far Cry Primal

Playtime: 18 hours | Rating: 5/10

Far Cry Primal feels like a game that sounded great in a boardroom as a unique twist on the Far Cry formula, but the execution didn’t quite deliver. The first half of the game was enjoyable, but the lack of weapons and restrictions on gameplay choices quickly became apparent. The setting, while novel, didn’t provide enough depth to sustain an engaging experience from start to finish. They gave it their best shot, but in the end, it’s pretty forgettable.

Ghost of Tsushima

Playtime: 46 Hours | Rating: 9/10

Man, what to say about GoT. Incredible, that much is universally agreed I feel. Setting, style, emotion, environments all beautiful and delivered with such polish and presence. Combat was responsive and cinematic and the narrative was so engaging. Don't think I can say much more about this game that hasn't already been said, loved my time on the island of Tsushima and couldn't recommend more.

Ratchet and Clank - Rifts Apart

Playtime: 12 Hours | Rating: 6.5/10

I have fond memories of the Ratchet and Clank games from my childhood, so when I saw this on a hefty discount during a Steam sale, I decided to pick it up. It’s a decent and fun experience, with undeniably stunning visuals, but perhaps I’ve outgrown the series a bit since my younger days. While I enjoyed my time with it, the game didn’t evoke much emotion or leave a lasting impression.

CyberPunk Phantom Liberty

Playtime: 100 Hours | Rating: 10/10

I first played Cyberpunk shortly after its release and was left decidedly unimpressed. Performance issues hurt the experience, but beyond that, the game felt like half of what it was imagined to be.

Coming back to it after the release of Phantom Liberty and a host of updates, I decided to replay the entire game from the start, knowing there had been significant improvements. What followed was the best gaming experience I’ve had since Baldur’s Gate 3. Everything just clicked this time—I found myself completely lost in Night City for hours every day.

Full credit to CD Projekt Red for sticking with this and repairing their damaged reputation. They’ve finally delivered the game they always envisioned, and it was worth the wait.

Destroy All Humans (Remake)

Playtime: 9 Hours | Rating: 6/10

Similar to Ratchet and Clank, I loved the original as a kid and picked up this remaster for about £3 during a sale. I played it through on my Steam Deck over the course of a few weeks in the evenings.

It’s definitely a faithful and well-done remaster with improved visuals, though I feel it lost a bit of the original’s charm. While it was enjoyable enough, it’s clear that games have evolved quite a bit since this originally came out, and it feels a little basic by today’s standards.

Space Marine 2

Playtime: 35 Hours | Rating: 8.5/10

This was easily my most anticipated game of the year—possibly of the decade so far. As a 40k ultra-nerd with hundreds of hours in various Warhammer games, I was beyond excited for this sequel. I enjoyed Space Marine 1 a lot, and the thought of it receiving a polished, AAA-crafted follow-up after so many years had me ready from day one.

Sabre did a fantastic job delivering exactly the experience I was hoping for. With visually stunning graphics and satisfyingly meaty combat, I loved every moment of reprising Captain Titus with a final act that will stay with me for a long time.

Days Gone

Playtime: 46 Hours | Rating: 8/10

This is my sleeper hit of 2024. I first heard about Days Gone when it launched on PS4, thought it looked cool, and then promptly forgot about it—until I saw it on sale for £10 and picked it up on a whim. What a ride!

This game offers a truly unique take on the zombie survival genre, and I was hooked from the first hour to the last. The beautiful scenery, great gunplay, and engaging characters all stood out, but the horde mechanics and the emergent gameplay they created were what made it unforgettable. I was completely immersed as I traversed the wilderness of Oregon with Deacon St. John, soaking in the atmosphere.

Highly recommended to any fan of the zombie genre.

Warhammer Rogue Trader

Playtime: 125 Hours | Rating: 8/10

This was a true journey—easily one of the longest single playthroughs I’ve ever completed. I’ll admit, I started running out of steam toward the end, mostly due to the lack of voice acting and the sheer amount of reading required.

That said, Rogue Trader offers Warhammer fans an experience unlike anything else: a brilliant, sprawling CRPG adventure in the vein of Baldur’s Gate. While it lacks the polish and presentation of BG3, it has a charm all its own that more than makes up for it.

The combat encounters, however, felt a bit imbalanced. After Act 2, most of the game was a walk in the park, only to be punctuated by sudden, insane difficulty spikes where an enemy could wipe your entire party on turn one.

Despite its flaws, I loved my time with this game. However, it’s probably not one I’ll be replaying anytime soon.

Resident Evil Village

Playtime: 15 Hours | Rating: 9/10

My final game of 2024, and I rounded it off with a banger. Having played through the Resident Evil remakes (2 and 4) and RE7, I’ve got a decent amount of experience with the series. That said, Resident Evil Village is, without a doubt, my favorite entry so far.

This game strikes the perfect balance between tense horror and fun action combat. The presentation is absolutely S-tier, and I finished it over just a handful of play sessions because I was so hooked. The puzzles were fun and engaging, the setting was fantastic, and the overall pacing kept me invested from start to finish.

Bonus points for Lady Dimitrescu—easily one of the most memorable video game villains I’ve encountered. Highly recommended for any Resident Evil fan or anyone looking for a top-tier survival horror experience.

So there we go. That's a wrap. Let me know if you guys had any thoughts on the games I've played or any I missed you think I need to fit into 2025!
