Alien Isolation turns 10 years old. Happy B-day to one of the great survival horrors.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the best game I've played all year
I didn't buy Cyberpunk 2077 until this year, when I saw people saying the 2.0 patch had finally delivered on the pre-launch promise of the game. I got the base game and DLC at a good price and decided to play the base game until the main story 'point of no return' before starting the Phantom Liberty DLC.
The base game is (in late 2024) very good. The world is big and visually stunning, there are plenty of interesting storylines to follow, the combat/gunplay is satisfying. I'm not someone who puts a ton of hours into single player games, and I found myself drawn to exploring Night City and the many side quests etc. in a way I wouldn't usually in this kind of game.
Phantom Liberty takes everything the base game does well and refines it further. The set pieces are more exciting, the main quest storyline is fantastic, the characters are more interesting and the setting (Dogtown) is as good as the best parts of Night City.
I'd give current patch CP2077 base game an 8+ out of 10, but in my view Phantom Liberty is a 9+ and essential content for anyone who is coming to the game fresh or played the base game a while ago and enjoyed it.
We asked Bethesda what it learned making Starfield and what it's carrying forward – the studio's design director said: "Fans really, really, really want Elder Scrolls 6"

Don’t mind me, just blending in (Hitman)
Just now playing this game for the first time and having a blast. The degree of goofy shenanigans it lets you get up to is hilarious.

I’ve never played a turn based rpg in my life but after a 2 hour trial of baldurs gate 3 holy shit I get it now
I barely made it to the part after the crash and got my ass kicked in the crypt and then left and barely made it to the part you talk to the mind flayer and then my trial ran out! But holy shit the game is so good for my character I selected a rogue drow trickster with a criminal background was that a good choice for stealth playthrough? I really think I’m gonna pull the trigger and buy the full game now, the only rpgs I’ve enjoyed was fallout series (3,Nv,4) this just changed my life

Old-school RPG lovers, give me your top 3 RPG games
I say: Diablo 2, SWKOTOR, Skyrim. But I feel like there's a lot of greats I've missed..
The original Far Cry still holds up pretty well today.
You might know Far Cry as the franchise most responsible for making Ubisoft the way it is today. Assassin's Creed laid the groundwork, but Far Cry 2's large open world built the solid foundation, and you can make a strong argument that Far Cry 3 was the game that firmly codified the Modern Ubi Formula. But long ago there was a little German developer called Crytek with a big dream. They wanted to make an engine for a PC game that could let you see as far as they eye could see, and be as lush and beautiful as it was fun to play. And possibly melt your computer if it wasn't powerful enough. That's where Far Cry began. It was a big success - big enough for Ubi to snap up the IP for itself, and certainly successful enough for Crytek to make a spiritual successor, Crysis (which would most certainly melt your computer if it wasn't powerful enough.)
I've been meaning to give it another go, and this still very in-development mod that adds a bunch of tweaks and modernizations gives me the perfect excuse. So far it's been really good; that Far Cry mix of stealth and precision attacks still works great even in its infancy and gameplay has been fast and tight. Yes, I remember what happens in the second half, but hopefully it'll be much more bearable with knowledge and foresight. I'm impressed that people would actually take the time to polish this old game up and it's still fun as hell.

What's the funniest game you've ever played?
This is a question I see rarely asked for some reason. What is the funniest game you've ever played? Intentionally or unintentionally.
Personally I might have to give it to House Of The Dead: Overkill. I was clutching my sides laughing the whole time. Manhunt had me laughing real hard too

With it being early October, Zombie Season begins! Time to play through a few Zombie games. I like to start out with Resident evil 2 Remake as I know it so well, side note how is this game already 6 years old 0_o
What are your favourite zombie games to play? I always love to play several Resident evils throughout the month of October.
Bonus: What are your favourite horror games to play during October overall!?
