Studios really should release all content for unsupported multiplayer games

Games should not have cosmetic or other in-game items being sold for real money if that game is not actively being supported.

The specific example I'll use for this is Uncharted 4. It's what made me think to make this post in the first place. Uncharted 4 multiplayer was last updated in August of 2017, yet there are still hundreds of cosmetic items locked behind a paywall.

There's no reason why unsupported games should still have active storefronts for cosmetic/in-game items. Studios need normalize releasing all that content if they are ending support/updates for a game. Especially if that support ending doesn't include servers being taken offline.

What survival/crafting game has the best inventory management system?

I normally struggle to get through a lot of survival/crafting type games because i hate tedious inventory management. What game have you played that has the best system for this?

To those old school gamers who have been in a rut, try a VR / Quest 3. I had no idea how much it was going to reinvigorate my love for gaming.

I'm an old school gamer nowadays. 34 years old and I probably gamed 31 of them. The only generation i missed out on was like DOS text games. I have dozens of games with 500+ hours in. Yet, the last 5+ years, only very few games have been able to keep my attention. Estimated like 1 out of 30ish I try will get more than an hour. I put tons of time into finding a game that seems like it'll interest me, and 10 minutes in I turn it off for good. I even couldn't get myself into Red Dead Redemption 2. Couple hours into it, it felt too slow and not fulfilling enough to continue. (this is a reflection towards myself, considering how universally beloved it is in the gaming community)

However, since I got a quest 3, I've been loving just about every game I try. I've only had it about 2 weeks, but every chance I get, I strap in.

My biggest surprise so far was humble ol' Skyrim VR. I had previously played through it and loved it when it came out, but in VR it feels like a whole different game. Now I have no problem moseying across the continent with a bow and arrow to my next quest, stopping at every cave or monument I see, just to check it out. (bows are super op in VR, like shooting a machine gun if you try hard enough) I find myself taking pride in my work after I make a sick potion, or adopt a kid. Or my stomach dropping when I fall off a ledge. Getting jump scared by a skeever in a dark hallway. It feels more engaging and meaningful.

When before I was like "why doesn't my horse go faster", or searching "is there any way to fast travel to places I haven't been yet." It was like I was fighting against the game to get it done as quick as possible.

I had never dropped the $500+- to hop into VR for various reasons. Whether it was that the previous 10 headsets that came out had lots of problems plus needed a bunch of trackers, and a whole room, or I didn't know if I was going to get burned out/motion sick wearing a headset for an hour+. It just never happened. In total, before this month, I spent like 10 minutes in a dave and buster VR. Which was cool, but was grainy and low resolution.

I've been trying to convince my friends to get one, because it seriously feels like I just started gaming again. Idk. I'm at work right now, and I felt compelled to go on about the Quest 3. It's my favorite piece of gaming hardware in a long time, and I wish it, and VR in general, much success.

I guess this is how people that had one for the past year have felt. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't have one just how awesome it is. Like now I want every game to be VR. Gimme a mass effect reboot, all 3 in VR. I'll pay whatever you want Bioware.

Watching Gameplay vs Playing it

I've been quite a gamer myself since I'm young. Until I've become a dad, my time for game reduced significantly. Adulting just makes it abit harder for me to play a game from start to the end. I begin playing game that has no 'end game' such as EAFC, F1 etc. I attempted to 'chased' several games to completion such as God of War, The Last of Us but usually, I find it hard to finish due to several reasons, and I always almost feel bad not to be able to finish a game I bought and thought I loved.

Recently, I began exploring the idea of just watching gameplay, treating it as 'just another movie' and I found it oddly sastisfying. I'm in the middle of watching Astrobot for the first time and I realised it's more 'portable' that way given I can watch it even on the go, and yet enjoy the mechanics of the game even though I'm not the one playing.

Is there anyone like me? Or I'm just the odd ball here.

Shoutout to Slitterhead great game that kind of came from nowhere

This winter I was hyped for certain titles and some were underwhelming. And like most AAAs some launched unfinished.

But Slitterhead I didn't hear about kind of came from nowhere, but it seemed cool. I liked the monsters and all that so I got it on a whim.

But it has surpassed my expectations. Firstly it's a AA type of game as I expected not that it means any negative connotation.

The combat is great, it has a sort trading blows type of feel. The unique abilities are cool and being able to possess (the real main character is a possessing spirit of sorts) and juggle between civilians and the unique characters is neat. Killing Slitterheads with a charged shotgun move is always satisfying.

The music and sound design is also good the only thing that notibly makes me feel the AA feel is graphics could be more polished and nobody NPCs look closer to PS3 quality but I'm cool with it gameplay is more important and the slitterheads look great.

Best of all is the fighting the Slitterheads, creepy big monsters that are like some body horror abomination that give like sci Alien vibes. Character designs on those are peak imo.

So I wanted to give this game some love the developers did amazing with it. It's a really unique experience and gaming need more of that.

Hopefully a sequel with more polish is in the cards I would be glad to see it.

Finding CD/DVD copies that work.

Have you ever had trouble finding a copy of an older CD/DVD game that worked? I'm on my third copy of Final Fantasy X. The copies keep having moments where they take me to the PS2 screen that shows up when the console can't read the disc.

What game are you planning to start off 2025 with?

Mine’s an unexpected one, but Gran Turismo 6.

Around mid-2024, I decided to give the Gran Turismo games a chance and so far, I’ve completed Gran Turismo 2, 4 and recently 5.

As I was mostly busy, rarely getting any time to play games, I’ve kept Gran Turismo 5 for long. But now in the winter holidays, I’ve managed to get it running on my PC via RPCS3 and complete the game.

I’ve also got the Yakuza series as well (as of now, I’ve only completed the first two chapters of Yakuza 0). But I’ll be finishing Gran Turismo 6 before continuing with Yakuza 0.

What's the best weeb game from your 2024 wrap, That pulled your heartstrings with an emotional clap?

Weeb games are for those who live in the dark,

Worlds with anime’s soul, leaving a mark.

A blend of culture, art, and lore,

They tell tales of adventure, love, and more.

....

It's for those who seek what the world can’t show,

In these games, your feelings will grow.

A world so rich, you can’t help but explore,

Yearning for more, always craving the core.

So why RTS is a dead genre?

Where are the real time strategies? The ones in which you build a base, build your defenses and the army and clash with your opponent?

There used to be a new RTS title every couple of months, big studios, big names, big sales. Then all of a sudden the formula got replaced with Company of Heroes kind of outlook on the genre, squad based strategies, and everything got stale, sales went down and the genre got buried.

Yet StarCraft 2 is still going strong, with it being a e-sport and all, which means there is a huge interest for this genre and gameplay among people. There is a huge effort in indie industry to make RTS games, yet none of the big studios making any sort of an effort to revive classical RTS.

Why is it dead? :(

I feel like I'm in a gaming rut and I don't know how to get out of it.

Chalk it up to my advanced old age (30-something) or something else, but lately I've found almost no motivation to play anything outside of my "comfort" quick and easy, no strings attached games like Overwatch and Smash Bros. Ultimate. Games where I can take it easy and mess around for a few hours, with no real stakes, drama, etc.

I've tried to branch out by finishing some of the games in my back catalog, but I find I tend to branch out too much and start multiple games that I then leave half-finished and become anxiety-riddled about finishing because there are too many choices. Anyone else have this problem? Any recommendation on how to "reboot?" Take out the battery maybe?

Considering a PS5 Slim NOT Pro. Want to catch up with FF7, GoW, HZD, etc. Good idea?

I’ve had a Switch and Series S for years but I think I’m ready to round things out with a more powerful console and catch up with Sony exclusives.

I owned a PS4 early on up until the Switch released and then sold it. So I’ve yet to play any Horizon games or God of War, Ghost of Tsushima or FF7 Remake etc.

I can’t justify the expense of a PS5 Pro, so I’m settling for a slim. Even that is tough for my budget but it’s still on sale some places so I kind of want to jump in and start catching up over the winter months.

Any reason I shouldn’t just go for it?

I’ll inevitably want a Switch 2 for new Zelda and Mario games but I’m content with my Series S as a Game Pass machine.

So it’s just Sony that I’m missing out on. Any feedback or opinions welcome.

Just having a hard time pulling the trigger haha

What game are you ending your year with?

I need a palette cleaner between big games and jumped on Nobody Wants To Die

I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through and am absolutely loving it.

Perfect choice to end the year.

PC Game Pass has everything PC players want.

Games console exclusives aside, does it? does it have all the major PC games? How does it compare to other gaming services like steam? Looking for personal experiences.

I had PS+ Premium for one month when I first had a PS5. Fucking nowt "premium" about it. No Metal Gear Solid, no Gran Turismo. Fuck all that I wanted at the time. It did have TLOU but not the remake. I was misled by the word "premium". Is Game Pass any better? Keep coming across that bastard ad but comments are disabled so lets comment here instead.

I wish more games had an FOV slider

Sorry if this comes off a little ranty, I just wish more games had FOV sliders. Doesn't matter if it's 1st person or 3rd person, I get motion sick if the FOV is too low. I've missed out on a lot of great games because of this, the most recent example being Fallout 4. Am I crazy or does anyone else notice a lot of games missing this simple feature that I feel would significantly enhance their quality of life?
