[Meta] Scammer alert on this sub

u/VizaviDS is a scammer. When you post on this sub they will message you regarding discounted codes for games that you are asking about, saying they have a friend that sells them. Then they will block and ignore you after sending an invalid code.

They also have an alt account that they will point you to to give them a positive review (u/PufikN).

I’m posting this so hopefully the mods will be made aware and other users too, in case they come across this person.

[PC] Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077

So far I'm planning to buy Skyrim, Terraria and Persona 5 Royal. I want to get cyberpunk since it seems good and my friend has recommended it to me. Thanks to the steam deal it's only £22 and with dlc it's £40. On the other hand, Baldur's Gate is £40, and it seems that everyone loves it. Some people will probably say buy both, but my friend will most likely ask me to get a bunch of games that we can play together, which would stop me from being able to get both games.

Should I buy Path of Exile 2?

Played the first one for about 200 hours. Enjoyed it. Never got into the end game. The second one looks amazing. Played for an hour on my nephews account. Enjoyed what I played of it. I know it’s early access so it’s essentially a beta for 6 to 12 months. Should I buy it now or wait til full release?

What an absolute disappointment to buy My Time At Sandrock for multiplayer.

So I bought My Time At Sandrock plus a copy for my wife and we were super excited to play through it together. We started playing but the more we played the weirder it seemed that nothing was happening, no story was going on and no interesting quests were showing up.

Turns out that multiplayer in this game is a storyless sandbox mode, which completely ruins the entire reason for even playing it. You are just building for the sake of it.

The game also doesn't TELL you any of this up front, before buying or when starting to play, happily pretending that you are going to play some version of the actual game. You are left to figure this out yourself off the back of your own wasted money and time.

I basically bought two copies of a bait-and-switch. I would gladly refund it if I still could, it was nothing but a big disappointment and a total waste of time and money.

[PC] X4 or Caves of Qud if I love games with "living" worlds. Also, playing on Steam Deck.

Upvotes

I've been eying both these games for some time, but realistically I probably only have time to sink into one. Both are Steam Deck verified though I've heard X4 is a tad shoddy (which is fine in small doses).

I want a game that feels alive. Like the world is happening whether or not I'm in it and that each playthrough is its own unique experience. I'll probably be trying to make some YouTube content with it, so whichever leads to the best immersive storytelling would be a plus!

Thanks in advance!

[PC] Games that will fill the void of Cyberpunk 2077?

Just finished my first play through of cyberpunk and I’m now trying to find the next thing that will hook me in like that game did. Iv already played a good chunk of the popular single player RPG’s. Some of those being RDR/RDR2, Witcher 3, GOW/GOW:R, Skyrim, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman 1/Spiderman 2, tried TLOU didn’t love it. I like games that have an engaging story and good RPG build crafting like cyberpunk had.

[PC] Have $35 in my Steam wallet for a Steamdeck game. LOU 1 or FF7 remake?

Upvotes

Title says it all. I’ve been waiting in both to go on sale but want one or the other and can’t make up my mind.

I played the original FF7 way back on PS2 and loved it then. I dunno if that’s enough though, like I already played it tire of thing 🤷‍♂️

I saw Last of Us on HBO, so I know the story but would me having seen the show sort of ruin the game for me?

[PC] What are some games that will bring me the joy of gaming again?

18, 2 months into my first breakup, my heart is shattered and i dont have any interest in anything. even before the breakup, i wasnt having fun gaming, but now.. i only look at my games in the steam library.

I dont mind any genre (other than souls like, i dont have the ambition to kill any boss atm), but would like it to be singleplayer, i really like roguelikes and i played most of the popular ones, also i dont mind something story related, i played some The witcher 3 and really liked it. just give me your best games, i dont have a ton of games so you will probably give me a new one. i will check all of your answers out and tysm! :)

EDIT: thank you to everybody for your suggestions and kind words, they really mean a lot to me. i discovered a lot of great looking games and i cant thank you enough

[PS5] Arma Reforger or Hell Let Loose?

Me and my friend really want to give a war simulation game a try! But at the moment we cannot make up our mind between the two games mentioned! Do you have any tips for us regarding gameplay, server population and which is generally just more fun? The only fps game we play at the moment is rainbow six siege, other than that I don’t really have experience with other fps’. Thank you!

[PC] RPGs with an emphasis on buildcrafting depth, looting, and endgame.

Trying to scratch the looter itch recently, but a lot of games of the type lack the depth I’m looking for. I want games that really want you to think on how you build your character, and not mostly in the boring way of buildcrafting like “choose between plus 10 health or 5 damage” things, but more like “you only have 1 point of health but you are now invincible to an entire damage type”(Chaos Inoculation passive from POE). I also prefer if the game has a challenging endgame content, so the builds you create can be pushed to their limits.

Games I’ve played and what I think about them:

Path of Exile 1 and 2- I picked them up and really got into them this year, the buildcrafting depth and endgame content is unmatched for me currently, as well as the looting experience. My issue with 1 however is outside Ubers the gameplay feels boring after you’ve made your build go online without too much effort. 2 fixes that for me with the constantly engaging combat, but there are other endgame issues I’m waiting on changes for.

Destiny 2- Had a great looting experience, build customisability with the Aspect and Fragment system, and enjoyed their raids and dungeons for endgame content, but Bungie has been making way too many mistakes recently so I’m prob not playing much for a while.

Warframe- It’s got the loot and content, but severely lacks in combat, where everything feels too easy even in the endgame with a slightly competent build. Also, I feel like 70 percent of Warframe’s buildcrafting just comes from adjusting stats rather than creative interactions.

Borderlands- The looting is good and there is content, and the difficulty feels nice, but the build crafting isn’t that deep and I hate the leveled loot system where gear you find at lower levels is permanently stuck there, so it doesn’t feel like it’s worth farming till max level, and I don’t like the looting system of constantly reloading the game for the same checkpoint constantly for drops for hours.

Monster Hunter Worlds/Rise- Fires off all cylinders to be honest, maybe I’d prefer a bit more buildcrafting depth but it’s pretty good already.

Outriders- Looting, buildcrafting and difficulty feel good, but the amount of content is incredibly lacklustre.

Remnant 2- Difficulty and buildcrafting was pretty good, but I kind of felt a lack of some endgame pursuit.

Games I’m interested in but seem to have issues-

Grim Dawn- Seems to be top tier in buildcrafting and loot, but doesn’t really seem to have an endgame and more of just making new characters.

Path of the Righteous- Seems to have good buildcrafting, not really sure about the other elements.

Diablo 4- I’ve spent so much time hearing about people’s complaints with it since its release, and especially heard how shallow it’s buildcrafting feels.

I’d like to hear recommendations for what can satisfy my urge for a game with good loot, deep buildcrafting, and somewhere I can challenge myself in endgame pursuits to test how my build can fare.

[PS5] Elden ring dlc or Sekiro

I’m stuck on which one to buy 😭. Sekiro is currently on sale right now which is why I wanted to get it but that dlc also seems to be calling my name. I have already played elden ring and have completed it. I really liked it because of the boss fights and various builds (I wonder if it’s the same in Sekiro if you can make various builds) you could make which is why I wanted to get the dlc. But Sekiro also looks good and is on sale for the first time since I found out about the game. Which do you recommend I get and why?

[PS5] So should I buy Gotham knights special edition?

Upvotes

So I am getting Gotham knights special edition which includes the Steelbook for Rs 1600 which is roughly 18 US dollars in my local game shop should I buy it? I recently got in to collecting physical games and want to start collecting steelbooks but as Gotham knights is controversial game with bad reviews so should I buy it simply for the Steelbook?

Got about 6 bucks. What should I get?

Upvotes

Sleeping dogs or Max Payne 3 or Saint row 4. For context I am waiting for GTA6 to come out and I’ve played a little bit of saints row 4 at a friends and understand that it’s super hero style.

I’m torn between all three games. Kinda leaning towards sleeping dogs but just torn still.

I have Cuperpunk, Batman games, but that the closest games that I have related. What do you recommend I pick between the 3 and why?

Appreciate it!

[Switch] Rogue Legacy or Spelunky

So currently Rogue Legacy 1 & 2 as well as Spslunk 1 & 2 are on sale. I haven't played any of them yet.

I love 2D platformer and I like roguelite/roguelike games. Rogue games I played and liked are Hades, Dead Cells, Vampire Survivors, Binding of Isaac. My favorite platformer are Hollow Knight, Ori and the Will of the Wisp, Metroid games, Ender Lilies, Shovel Knight, Donkey Kong Country Returns.

I don't mind higher difficulty provided it's fair. Got patience so don't mind dying a bunch. Prefer fast paced games but isn't a requirement.

Based on that, what would you recommend? Also with each game, the first or second game?

[PURCHASED] Elden ring is on sale (29.99 GBP) should i buy?

Upvotes

I'm very new to souls games and third person sword combat - my only experience being Zelda OOT, BOTW and TOTK. I was particularly good at the timings and the parrying aspect of totk and botw, and found the swordplay quite enjoyable. I've just finished rdr2, which was my first PROPERLY 'mature' game, and I now want to branch out, and lots of people say Elden Ring is the epitome of soulslike/swordslashyshingshang gaming.

Lemme know what you think.

[PC] Final fantasy 16 vs Refantazio vs P3R

Hello I'll soon be finishing P5R and since there is a sale im thinking any of those 3 games.

Some background.

The only Final Fantasy I've played is 10. I enjoyed the way the main story's pacing and the worldbuilding as well. I'm iffy on 16 mainly because i heard that there are no good side characters and the combat gets dull. I'm still considering it because of the world building.

I've finished P4G and omw to finish p5 as well and my one issue with those games is that i feel they tend to drag and meander a bit too much in the middle, to a point i lose interest.

PS: I've played both the demos available and its hard for me to evaluate big games based on 2-3 hours of content.

WSIB: Story games that aren’t slow

Cyberpunk is my perfect example. Incredible story from the start, 0 required filler, and side quests that are better than some entire games in both story telling and gameplay.

Firewatch is another simpler example with no gameplay. But again the pacing of the story was good. Any waiting time was part of the story and it doesn’t feel like time is wasted.

I played Nier: Replicant and Nier: Automata and the story and lore was incredible for me. The pacing here wasn’t as good as Cyberpunk, but again there isn’t required filler for the most part. At least with Automata even playing routes A-E I was able to experience everything in 20-25 hours just focusing on the main story.

Finally some unconventional “story” games were Ori and Celeste which I didn’t even expect to have a story, but it did have a decent story that was interlaced into excellent gameplay for really good pacing,

I tried Witcher 3 and RDR2, but both games were just way too slow for me. The gameplay is not nearly good enough to make the slow pace bearable for me and the story doesn’t click with me enough to keep myself engaged. I found myself forcing myself to continue compared to the other games on this list where I couldn’t put it down.

I’m looking for a game where I can play just on the weekends or binge to the end and get to experience a story at a good pace. I don’t want to need to spend an hour grinding or an hour walking back and forth and not learning anything new.

[PC] What are some very relaxing games? Something I can sit to play for hours without worrying about a thing

What I've already played

Stardew Valley + Modded Stardew Valley

And since a month ago, Tiny Glades

So Im looking for something that at least has farming and or sandbox style building

Those don't have to be the only features of course, but as long as it is relaxing, that's all I care for, them being farming related or sandbox related are a bonus

Other strategy games for a Total War: Warhammer enjoyer?

Upvotes

TL;DR - Looking for strategy games for those that enjoy Total War: Warhammer that I can also co-op play with my wife. Specifically interested in Dune: Spice wars and Northgard, but am open to other suggestions.

I enjoy TWW series very much, having 100%'d the first game and now currently working through the second game while having a blast. I enjoy the many different detailed units, the tactics used on the battlefield in real time, as well as the campaigns and how differently factions play.

I also enjoy playing co-op campaigns with my wife on lower difficulties to teach her even though I prefer to play on harder difficulties when solo. This is great because I can enjoy the challenge of the game in single-player but there are options to make the game accessible to my wife so she can enjoy it too.

These games scratch the itch for constant war and interesting tactical battles, but I'd also like something that provides a mix of fun tactical battles with more management type stuff other than just fuel for war. The RTS genre is appealing, but many of them have a focus on fast PvP whereas I'm more interested in co-op and single-player. PvP is a nice option though, if I ever decide to give it a go.

I was particularly interested in Dune: Spice Wars and Northgard, but subreddits dedicated to their games can be quite negative. My concerns based on what OTHERS have said:

Dune: Spice Wars

  • Combat is boring and the game is actually super simple and boring but made to look complicated
  • Becomes very repetitive after a few hours and the interest dies out
  • Lots of interacting systems that seem cool at first but are very shallow and lack depth, boring

Northgard

  • Servers and cheating AI are terrible
  • There is only one strategy: build big army and steamroll, becomes boring
  • Unit collision makes the game very difficult to read and is the cause of the "one strategy"
  • Lots of bugs

Thank you in advance for any and all suggetions/opinions!

[Switch] SIB Children of Morta?

Upvotes

I'm considering to play this game with my wife but I'm not a big fan of roguelike. I hate the flow of dying several times before you have an actual chance of winning. I'm open to try a new game because of he couch coop and because I love The Binding of Isaac (the only exception in the genre), but I'm concerned this game is more like the titles I disliked (like Skul, Wizard of Legend). What would you advise?

[PC] Have a $25 steam gift card, how does this list look?

Got a $25 gift card for Christmas and I'm trying to get my money's worth during the winter sale. So I've added a few things to my cart. My Cart currently

I have a very hectic and busy schedule with work, family, and other activities that take a lot of my time. So I'm a pretty casual gamer. My online multiplayer of choice is Overwatch 2, so a good multiplayer base isn't really a necessity. I'm really just looking for the best bang for my buck and how I can get hours and hours of entertainment.

Some of my most played games on steam are theHunter: CotW (hence the map in the cart), 7 Days to Die, Grand Theft Auto 5, Final Fantasy X, Dark Souls and Skyrim. But I also have a ton of time on games like Black Ops 4 and Fortnite.

I'm looking for recommendations of any kind on if I could better spend my $25. Let me know how my cart looks and if I should change anything.

Cyberpunk Question

Upvotes

I’ve seen a lot of Cyberpunk related posts which has me intrigued. However, I have an unpopular opinion. I have struggled with RDR2. It’s taking me a long time to get used to everything. There is just a lot going on. There are a ton of items, I’m not smooth with using the controller bc of all the stuff you gotta keep track of, etc. Ghost of Tsushima, TLOU for example are pretty easy to play.

Will I struggle with cyberpunk if I struggle with rdr2?

[PS5] Just finished Astro Bot, about to finish Persona 3 Reload. What next?

Here's my gaming backlog of the last 2 years

- Elden Ring

- Dark Souls Trilogy

- Bloodborne

- Hollow Knight

- Dead Cells

- Ghost of Tsushima

- Xenoblade Chronicles 3

- Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

- Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

- No Mans Sky

- NieR Automata

- Hades

- Assassins Creed Mirage

- Ratched and Clank - Rift Apart

- Baldurs Gate 3 (didnt like)

As you can see I do have some tendencies, like Souls, Roguelikes, jrpgs but I'm also very open for some "wildcards". Next games I was considering playing are Horizon Zero Dawn, Metaphor Re:Fantazio, The last of Us Part I, Death Stranding and God of War. Which game would you choose if you were in my place and why?

I should also note I have the german equivalent to the US bar exam in a couple of months, so I have very limited time for gaming. Maybe 2-3 hours in the evening.

Looking for a fun, story-based, romp...

Hello all!

I adore games that have strong points of views, story, and generally on the shorter side (35 hours max for an open world game)

Some games I quite enjoy: INSIDE, Little Nightmares, Cocoon - puzzle games with vague story and pure VIBES

GRIS and NEVA - Beautiful beautiful platformers

Firewatch - incredible story. Sort of walking-simulator-y

STRAY - Puzzle/platformer where you play as a cat in a walled city filled with robots

Undertale - heartfelt RPG with multiple endings, almost a meme at this point. Music ROCKS

NeonWhite - A speed-run based FPS with a visual novel tacked on. GREAT movement!

Twelve Minutes - A timeloop mystery game

BRAID - The original indie darling

FEZ - incredible art and music, mystery-filled puzzle/platformer

Cult of the Lamb - cute and violent rogue-like + community sim

Literally anything from "SuperGiant Games"

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Senua's Saga- The first one is technicallyy an Indie, gorgeous dive into a woman's broken mind. Play with headphones.

Celeste - Incredible platformer

Stardew Valley - This game is CRACK, it's a farm sim

Crypt of the Necrodancer - A rhythm based rogue-like

Oxenfree - a 2D mystery on an island

Control, Alan Wake 2 - Amazing stories and world

I also have (but have not played) SOMA, Exit8, 1000xResist

Some big games I enjoy - Horizon series, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3

Not a fan of metroidvania, generally
