Discussion What is the status of cuba right now?
So if you try to look up how cuba is doing on Google, reddit, whatever, you'll get:
-The Healthcare system is great and has tons of doctors and is free!
-The Healthcare system is absolutely dogshit, has run out of resources and is free.
-The people of Cuba are able to get just what they need and are well fed.
-The people of Cuba are getting barely anything in terms of food and are starving.
-The people of Cuba support their revolution and government.
-The people of Cuba fucking despise their revolution and government.
-Cuba currently has had their power grid basically just shut down and there are non stop blackouts.
-No contrary statement to this either.
-The cuban police is very brutal and the government often silences those who speak against the Cuban government through imprisonment and murder.
-There isn't actually a contrasting statement to whats above people seem to be in agreement of this.
-Cuba has a good standard of life, high and on par with what would be called "the west".
-Cuba has a standard of life which is so shit it's almost to the level of Haiti.
-Cuba is still socialist.
-Cuba isn't socialist.
-The US embargos are the cause for all the struggles.
-The US embargos are really bad but the Cuba government itself must be held accountable.
And then for the opinions with clear grounds in rightist and pro-capitalist ideologies, the leftists will say they're from "gusanos", Cuban diaspora expelled because their grandpa was a plantation owner.
And then for the opinions with clear grounds in leftist and Marxist ideologies, the opposition will say they are white university students from Seattle who don't know anything about Cuba properly and just want to have a good example for socialism.
To make things clear, I myself am a Marxist. I'm not asking any of this to say "gotcha leftists!" I'm asking this so we socialist can analyze this and understand it since it seems pretty important, especially to account for if socialism is to be applied elsewhere soon.
So, please discuss it. I want people here to tell what they KNOW about Cuba, and try to analyze it. If there are any Cubans living in Cuba right now please do tell me about your experience (although I know there's likely to be little given limited access to internet in Cuba). If you know a Cuban living in Cuba, let me know their views. If you have seen videos, stories and footage of things in Cuba that are relevant, share and analyze them. I know its tempting to say that a negative news article is capitalism propaganda but please try to approach things with the mindset of specifically trying to understand Cuba as it is.
It's okay to admit faults in socialism, we especially must learn from those.

High Quality Only ✊🏽Milwaukee tenants—We when fight, we win! Tenants of Milwaukee’s biggest slumlord win major concessions from legal settlement.
💪🏽Milwaukee tenants score a win over big landlord Joe Berrada with a civil settlement. As the city’s largest landlord, Berrada has wreaked havoc on Black, working-class tenants on the northside through badly maintained buildings, illegal fines, and mass eviction filings. He has established himself as the city’s biggest slumlord in the eyes of many tenants.Despite Berrada’s money and lawyers, tenants fought. For years, they spoke out and organized with their neighbors for maintenance and repairs and their right to live in dignity.
This win is a glimpse of what we can do when we fight together! When tenants, working class and poor people come together, we can win dignified housing as a human right! ✊🏽

How do we get more people educated on socialism without reading?
I read theory a lot. People close to me do not, despite them sharing my (socialist) ideals and agreeing with me on most topics.
I promote others reading socialist theory whenever possible, but it seems generally infeasible that many would read socialist theory due to either preconceived notions on socialism (propaganda/USSR) or a lack of willingness to read generally.
For example, my girlfriend and I get into large political discussions. I tell her the basics of Marxist theory, history of socialism and the efforts against it, and hopefully help inform her. She's grateful and despite me checking, seems to genuinely want to learn more. However, the few times I have suggested she read some beginner socialist theory (Stuff like Einstein's "Why Socialism?"), she says that she prefers my retellings of what I've learnt/read.
Personally, I'd prefer she make her own interpretations but she seems unwilling to read. I must say that she has a form of mild dyslexia so this example is a bit weak. How do I, or we, better promote socialist education if many do not want to read?
I was thinking something along the lines of a retelling, or modernised version, of popular socialist theory pieces. E.g. Engel's "Socialism: Utopian and Scientific" but done with more reference to modern events and usage of more modern terminology. I'd still prefer if everybody read the original works, but it seems harder and harder to get people to read.
TLDR: Many people do not want to read. How do we efficiently educate these people? Update theory?

Thoughts on this YouTube video 'The political spectrum is a myth'
Sorry if this is the wrong place to submit a video link The political spectrum is a myth - YouTube but this video has been bothering me. Apparently the only reason he made this video was because he was called a commie/Marxist/socialist and he says that he's not and why calling yourself left or right is wrong. He gives no real evidence, calls the democratic party left which is hilarious, and ends the video by telling us to agree to disagree with people from different ideologies (which again is hilarious when some issues are basically if you support human rights or not), to not watch news at all and basically promote centrism... Also, he doesn't talk about capitalism at all. It's disappointing how many people in the comments agree with his centrist message...
What are your thoughts? Oh and also I watch such videos sometimes just to see where people are with their political ideas, it's interesting.

What can we do right now?
In the short run, is it at all possible that the people just demand health insurance companies be abolished overnight? I KNOW many of us work for them, I know we get some healthcare - but nothing that’s about to make us die usually.
Can we demand change overnight and appoint an owner?
It just seems so unreasonable to pay this much, while also still dying. Something’s gotta give. I’m afraid to get sick or fall. I do not want to go to the hospital. By the way I cannot for the life of me understand why the general population (capitalist included)doesn’t understand why healthcare (and not just health insurance) shouldn’t be for profit either. How did we fail to explain to each other the basic concept of conflict of interest between your health and their profit?
The best thing for them is if they give you something cheap to slowly kill you while you give them all your money for you: example insulin. Insulin shouldn’t be the treatment for type 2 diabetes.
It helps me wonder if there is incentive to give people diabetes (through the food advertised and available) so that they can then treat it, as perhaps it is the most profitable of illnesses for people to have.
George Carlin explained this all. Some people should understand from the general population. How come we don’t talk about it enough?
—-
Inaction on this issue would be so tragic and such a misstep for society. So many people have already died and we didn’t even hear about it.
Imagine a large colony of ants working hard trying to get someone, and they hear a sound and start looking up, someone’s been squashing some of the ants. They stated scattering around trying to live. They don’t even know how many died behind them in the last 10+ years. For the profit of the same people that have so much power they can bomb all of us.
All the people that died, imagine the effect on their families. Maybe some were or weee going to be teachers, imagine the effect on their students and potential students. Some that died would have had children that would have been doctors and scientists. The harm done to society is unimaginable.

High Quality Only Why do liberals and conservatives have such a hard time about understanding Marxist class theory and instead think of class by income and think the Soviets and the Chinese killed by income (including killing the “middle class”) instead of killing employers and landlords?
It’s the holidays and my anti-communist liberal uncle made this error in our yearly debate. And why do liberals believe this? It confuses me.

Anti-Fascism i have a neo-nazi classmate
this classmate of mine has been a satanist and an atheist for a while now but recently just a few months ago he’s been telling everybody that he’s christian and has been hanging out with fascist people 2-3 years older than him. We were friends before he became a nazi and insulted my dead relative and after that i just thought that blocking him and ignoring him would be the best option. since then he’s been trying to get on my good side, basically licking out my ass. A couple of times i’ve confronted him about it, calling him a fascist c##t etc. he’s also showing obvious signs of racism, homophobia, transphobia and antisemitism, but denies everything. he’s also been seen making swastika graffities and telling our classmates how much he hates gay and jewish people.he recently just told my friend that me and him have made peace, which is not true. Should i confront him about it or should i continue ignoring him? edit: thank you very much to everyone who liked and forwarded my post and most of all thank you to everyone who wrote about the topic in the comments, everyone helped with various solutions. I was able to talk to very nice, helpful and understanding people!

looking for texts by Fusako Shigenobu
So, as the title says, I'm looking for texts by her. I know she wrote some things, but I couldn’t find anything translated from Japanese, and I don’t speak Japanese. If anyone knows where I could find something, it would be greatly appreciated. I can read in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian; I could also manage with a German translation. If anyone could recommend me some other works from japanese marxists that would be cool as well.
thank you!

Political Economy Is anyone here familiar with the works of Fernand Braudel and if so, is he worth reading?
I’ve heard that his works somewhat inspired world systems theory, but I’ve also heard that his writings on capitalism aren’t necessarily critical. If I want to learn more about capitalist world economy, are his works noteworthy or is he unnecessary to read?

Preserving Capitalism Through Welfare Programs
Welfare programs are frequently employed as mechanisms to sustain the capitalist system by addressing its most glaring symptoms—poverty, inequality, and social unrest—without fundamentally altering its structural foundations. While these programs provide immediate relief to the working class, they often function as tools of pacification, designed to mitigate revolutionary potential and stabilize the system rather than address the root causes of economic and social inequality. This dynamic helps capitalism persist by suppressing dissent and maintaining the status quo.

Who are the most powerful people in the world? Who are the real decision makers of the ruling class of the empire?
I'm asking this to better understand the nature of the enemy. There is the idea that even big capitalists merely respond to the incentives of the system, and are essentially powerless to act in a way other than they do. But I don't think everything is inevitable and predetermined. People are making decisions and shaping our world system and I am curious which people are able to have the greatest impact. Are some capitalist sectors more influential than others? (Maybe finance, energy, arms, tech, etc.) There are internal contradictions between factions of the ruling class. Should we consider the people selected by the capitalist class as a whole to represent their interests as leaders of the ruling class? Which parts of government are the most powerful? Is it the mid tier bureaucracy of the Pentagon, State Dept, Fed Reserve, etc. where mass politics can not even slightly disturb the status quo? Is it with powerful lobbyists like Leonard Leo, Chairman of the board of directors of the Federalist Society? Or is it the scientists and thought leaders that shape how the empire actually operates?

Do you think the Soviet Union’s dissolution was set in motion the second Stalin died?
Nikita’s revisionism, the Sino-Soviet split and Gorbachev’s reforms all stem from a reaction to his death.
Mao was right and China was bound to become the leader of the Socialist World from that point on.
