Drove this baby on 27 miles of dirt. Elevation peaked at 5,200 feet according to my watch. I usally have buyers remorse but this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. These mirrors suck.

8mm flange/hex bolt torque spec. Oil filter cover, CRF 300L. Got to be sure

So to me, these are flange bolts, correct me if I’m wrong. Being an 8mm, I’m reading that they need 20 ft-lbs of torque, which seems ridiculous to me. Especially after just re-threading holes in atv after over torque. No specific mention of oil filter bolt specs anywhere else.

Where should we ride in Costa Rica on CRF300l and CRF250l?

Upvotes

2 of my buddies and myself will be renting dirtbikes/motorcycles and riding out from San Jose at the end of January. We want to head down to the Osa Peninsula and we have 8 full days total with the bikes. Is this even worth the trek down there?

We did Monteverde, Aranal and the Nicoya Peninsula down by Montezuma in 2022 and it was an incredible trip, but we want to explore another area this time.

Any pointers on the Osa Peninsula by motorcycle? And if this isn't the move, does anyone have other areas that are better worth exploring on motos?

We are all 3 somewhat experienced dirt riders but by no means enduro champs. River crossings and technical single track may be a bit tricky for our experience levels.

Thank you to all and Pura Vida!

Camera/mounts/navigaton.

Upvotes

Boyfriend just bought a Kawasaki something and plans on going on a trip next year. Do ya’ll have recommendations for: - navigation systems or gps things that work well on trails in the middle of nowhere. - cameras and mounts. - advice for cameras. Mounted on bike versus mounted on helmet or chest harness?

Discussion Understanding and choosing dualsport dirtbike motorcycles from an ADV rider.

Hey all, I've never ridden a dirtbike but I've been on my 890 Adventure R for a year and a 390 Adventure for two years before that. I love riding off road and plan to sell my now hardly ridden 390 and try out a dualsport dirtbike. There's so many different models and I'm having a hard time comparing them so I'm asking for help.

My considerations are: ●Below or just a hair over 300lbs (so I can put it on my 350 lbs tongue weight limit hitch) ●I live in San Diego, so it seems like it's mostly open, sandy, dessert terrain (but maybe there's woodsy single track I just don't know about, I just moved here in 6 months ago - I would be quite interested in singletrack, though. I used to be an avid mountain biker. ●I'd say I'm a solidly intermediate rider on my 890 Adventure R. I tend to ride with the faster riders in a group ride full of "normies." I purposely seek out technical and challenging terrain (for an ADV) I've done a few ADV rallies and a couple classes. ●I don't plan to need to ride long pavement to get to trails most of the time, I want to use the suv and hitch - I have the 890 to ride longer distances. ●My girlfriend is interested in trying out off road riding - she up until recently rode an MT07 but decided street riding isn't for her - just not comfortable around traffic. So a bike that could work for both of us would be a plus. She has almost no dirt experience. ●I'm 6'2" 200lbs and she's 5'7" 140lbs ●I'm not too worried about cost of purchase or ownership, but don't want super short intervals just to avoid the pain. ●I feel like I want to prioritize lightness as to fit a further niche from the 890. I also kinda feel like I'll miss having power on tap if I go too low hp.

I keep seeing that bikes like the ktm 500 are not for beginners, but is that in the context of beginner dirtbikes or does the experience transfer over? Still since the gf might want to try it too I may lean for something more forgiving and if I need to later I can get something a little sharper.

What do you all think? Especially need advice from those who ride both dirtbikes and ADVs.

Been swapping between the Kove 450, KTM 300, and the YZ250F a bit more recently. This YZ is really a fun bike to ride and just toss around (or get tossed around by 🤣). Planning to head out this afternoon on the KTM to push out a fresh single track in the same area I was riding in the video.

Drz400s vs Crf300l

I got a Honda Navi as my first bike last year and I'm at 5k miles currently. I'm looking into upgrading to my second bike where I can learn the clutch and get a feel for more power. My Navi was used as my daily which got me to work and back with a commute of 22 miles daily city streets and no highway. Rode it everyday in Los Angeles weather from all weather conditions in heat, rain, fog, and wind. I am looking into a dual sport since my nephew got me into motorcycles and I want to follow his route. He rides a 2013 Ktm 350 Exc-f with no modifications to the seat height. I'm aware of the height of dual sports and my inseam is 26 inches and I'm 5 foot 7 at 155lbs. He's similar in body shape as me. I ran into the opportunity to either purchase his dad's friends 2004 Drz 400s at 10k miles who said he'd sell it to me for $2,500. He's the second owner and everything is stock with the only things he's upgraded were adding hand guards, skid plate, and a safari tank. The only issue he mentioned was that it might need a fork seal on one side. My second option is purchasing a crf300ls since the seat height is lowered and if I get the drz I'd need to lower the suspension. I keep going back and forth between the two bikes because of their history in the dual sport community and am aware of the pros and cons of both after studying them both. I have sat at the dealership on both a 2023 drzs and sm model but have yet to sit on a crf300l or ls version. I do plan to visit the 04 Drz400s and have my nephew sit on it and ride it and inspect it as if he were to purchase it for himself since I trust his expertise in helping me make a choice. I plan to daily the motorcycle I end up with for commuting which would be a 20 mile radius from work but would love to explore southern California as well such as Big Bear with maybe a once a year trip to something like Los Angeles to San Francisco being the furthest. Any help would be appreciated.

Boots going up and down again

I have this poem from Rudyard Kipling on repeat in my head ever since I saw the trailer of 28 years later, decided to do something with some footage of my adventures through Guatemala. Hope you like it, editing it was tedious but in the end it came out not so bad.

My laptop went swimming in a river crossing so I had to make do with my phone.

My first bike!

Post image

Recently bought a 2012 KLX250S as my first bike at 24 years old and am loving it so far! First time ever off road west of Promontory, Utah last week with a friend and had a lot of fun.

Needs a bit of TLC after a few maintenance items were done (brake fluid changed, new battery, and oil change so far) as the previous owner let it sit for about 9 years after banging it up a bit (a few cosmetic items, grips, and levers). Has only 1800 miles and runs like new! I have some new OEM parts, a chain, levers, and grips I'm installing soon. I have enjoyed learning to work on this bike so far.

Anyone else with a 250S here? I'd love to hear a build list and any helpful info on the bike!

3k miles, no issues, what’s a fair price? I had loftier bike ambitions but this is probably a better/more economical foot in the door.

OTD Price on 2023 KLX230 S

So I’ve been looking to get a nice dual sport to do a off roading and also as my commute bike and I came across a 2023 KLX 230s at my local dealership listed at $3,485. Decided to take a trip down to the shop to check it out and get an OTD price. They quoted me at 5.7K.

This seems really steep, I mean, it’s more than half the cost of the bike in fees alone. I was able to get it lowered to $5,100 with a 10% discount on gear but that still seems excessive.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or negotiation tactics? I had put down $100 to hold the bike so I could negotiate on it, but when they gave me the 5.1K figure I asked them to refund it and call me if anything on the price changes in the future. I’ve looked around on marketplace and Craigslist and offerings are fairly scarce. I might just be in an area with high demand, but it also begs the question of why a 2023 bike is on the floor when 2025 models are coming out.

Any thoughts on whether I am being delusional on fees or if the dealership is delusional would be appreciated! Cheers!
