Discussion iRacing isn’t realistic?

Disclaimer: I am nowhere near an expert nor do I claim to be. I am not trying to troll and this is not meant to be a trash on iRacing post but a truly genuine question.

I am relatively new to sim racing having set up my first rig this calendar year. I started in ACC but switched over to iRacing and have enjoyed my time in the Mazda MX-5 and GR86 series since then. I’ve tried other sims including AMS2, AC, WRC, and F1’23 but to me iRacing felt the best with no actual real world racing to compare it to.

Whenever I see threads discussing the “best” sim though I almost always see iRacing mentioned as having the best multiplayer experience but not the most realistic with some bashing its realism and graphics more than others. The thing about these comments though is they never mention which ones they think are better but instead just bash iRacing.

So this is my question; if iRacing isn’t realistic, what is? If my interest was 100% which sim feels the most like the real car from FFB to how the cars drive what game should I play? Bonus points if mods aren’t required as I technically have the knowledge to mod but prefer a game I can just download and go.

Rigs Trak Racer Customer Service is Abysmal - Missing Parts on TR80, Avoid at All Costs!

I'm absolutely furious and need to vent about my experience with Trak Racer's customer service. I ordered a TR80 rig three weeks ago and I'm still unable to even begin building it.

I've received several boxes from them, but the crucial one containing all the bolts and connectors is missing. Without it, I'm completely stuck. The rig is literally just a pile of useless metal in my room.

Their customer support is a complete joke. There's no working phone number to call. None. You're forced to rely on email, which is an exercise in frustration. I've emailed them multiple times, clearly explaining that I need the missing box of hardware, and I'm either being completely ignored or given vague, evasive answers that don't solve anything.

Honestly, at this point, I deeply regret going with Trak Racer. I should have just gone with a Simlab rig and swallow their high shipping cost...

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Trak Racer? Any advice on how to actually get them to send me the missing parts? Next step is chargeback with AMEX.

TL;DR: Ordered a Trak Racer TR80 over 3 weeks ago, still missing the box with all the bolts and connectors. Customer service is non-existent. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Question New to simracing, should I consider gloves?

As the title says, I got a humble simracing rig for Christmas this year and I’ve loved every minute that I’m sat in it. For further context I have a logitech g923 and a logitech playseat trophy edition.

The wheel is made of this leather material and I sometimes have clammy hands due to the climate of where I live so I can’t help but wonder about gloves to help prevent this. I have some cheap fingerless motorcycle gloves lying around from a failed cosplay and I’m planning to use those but figured it’d still be nice to know more about gloves in general. Any and all answers are appreciated!!

Rigs Buying from moza directly sucks dick.

I bought the moza fsr wheel, crp 2 load cell pedals and r9 wheel base on nov 24.

for 3 weeks there was no email about shipping or anything. around about dec 7 or 8 on their website they said that the fsr wheel was out of stock. on dec 12 i had an email saying my order was being shipped and arriving soon. on dec 20 the r9 wheelbase arrives, and i get and email saying the wheel and pedals where on their way. on dec 24 i receive an email stating the fsr wheel and crp 2 load cell pedals where out of stock and i would have to wait for an unstated amount of time for them to be back in stock.

considering i paid 1200 GBP for the 3 items i was rather pissed off, i asked for a "refund" on the wheel and pedals. later that day moza said that they cant offer me a partial refund because "my order is outstanding"

i have to wait for weeks or months now, its really annoying knowing i could have the wheel and pedals tomorrow if i bought them from pure-sims

Rigs Do not buy from TrakRacer

Do not buy a cockpit (TR120) from TrakRacer.com if you live in California. I purchased my rig on December 8th, it's taken them until today (19 days total), to notify me that the earliest they will have all the parts is by the end of February at MINIMUM.

I tried emailing them multiple times asking if they could provide an update on what's going on and every time they would reply back 3 or 4 days later with few words that never fully answered my question. I had to pry out all the info needed to realize I would not have my rig until at least March 2025!

One of the worst customer service I have experienced, especially for an item that cost me over $800 dollars.

Currently requesting a refund from them so I can buy from a different brand. I'm open for suggestions on which brand is good.

Bummed I'll probably miss out on holiday discounts now but oh well.

Question Racing seat for Dorito lovers

I’m looking for advice or for you to share your experience with racing seats for ‘big guys’.

So in a couple of weeks I’m picking up an F-GT Elite frame from NLR. I’m what Jeremy Clarkson would call ‘generously proportioned’. So I was just wondering if anyone ‘this side of a new years resolution’ has experience with seats for aluminum profile rigs that would suit a fellow Dorito enthusiast.

I don’t mind having a bit of recline but would prefer a fixed back seat to avoid flex when using my load cell pedals.

I primary drive GT3 but am wanting to diversify for F1, drift, rally and street driving as I continue to buy into the Moza ecosystem.

I have sat in the ‘Exodus Aero’ and quite enjoyed the comfort level. However, I don’t want to write off the ES1 if anyone with a similar physique to me has used it with good experiences.

(And yes I’m getting help to work on achieving a healthy body weight but want to be able to enjoy sim racing as I am now; can always buy a thinner seat later).

Question Do I have to learn every track?

I’ve bought a wheel around 2-3 weeks ago and been playing forza motorsport but every online lobby I enter I am off pace by 10-15 seconds

I assume this is because I’m not familiar with the tracks (and several other reasons).

My questions are, do you guys know all the tracks and breaking points? (or gain that at some point?)

The track changes every hour also, can I just keep playing online and will I gain speed over time? Or will I have to go through each track practicing individually?

Rigs Deeper down the rabbit hole

A few changes since I last shared my rig, gave it a coat of paint, built a "center console" and installed some new goodies ( Moza HGP Shifter, HBP Handbrake, powered USB hub and some drip).

So far I absolutely LOVE the shifter and handbrake, they have so far exceeded my expectations and I'm very happy with them. After getting my hands on some decent mid range gear I'm even more excited about upgrading to a DD wheelbase and some better pedals in the future.

Rigs Where's the realism?

I cannot stand how incredibly unrealistic my sim setup is. It is nothing at all like a real car and its very frustrating, given some of the glowing reviews I've seen from people who have track experience. Pilots who flight sim are always quick to point out how unrealistic those sims are when it comes to actual flying, but it seems with race sims, all I hear are glowing reviews from people with actual track experience. So, help me out. Where's the problem? There's no brake feel, no throttle feel, and the steering feedback is so fake I'm honestly considering removing force feedback entirely. Obviously I don't have full motion with my setup and I know that'll be missing. I'm assuming most people aren't running that (though I could be wrong).

I'm running Assetto Corsa. Thus far, I'm sticking with the included NA Miata because, despite being a muscle car guy for pretty much all my life, I absolutely love Miatas. They're a riot. I'm running a G29 wheel/pedals, which is supposedly a good entry level bit of kit. I've done the LUT generator thing, which definitely helped, but it still feels nothing like a real car. I'm running a single 34" ultrawide monitor with face tracking to allow me to look through turns. Tightening the FOV helped with the feeling of speed, but I still need to tune the face tracking a bit more.

I know by the numbers these things are accurate, but the complete and total lack of feel, or fake feel with the force feedback is killing the experience for me. Any suggestions welcome.

Other Got scammed today

Upvotes

I don't know if this is allowed but damn I think I need to vent. I got scammed for this Christmas. I was saving through the entire school year for now, eating no lunch just to save up. Recently tried to buy a G27 off Facebook marketplace, woke up very early to ride my bike through rain just to go get it but unfortunately the seller apparently sold it to somebody else already. Went home, had to search for the marketplace again, found a G29 that sells for 120$ and since I was really gullible I went in to pay for it without proper research and for it to be delivered to me. I fucked up. After a while the seller wasn't responding and I had to search up his name on Facebook and apparently people got scammed by it too. I could've saved myself from a scam if I just did research. Damn.

tl;dr - saved for something and got lead into a scam because I was a gullible fella

Question Can't decide between Automobilista 2 & Assetto Corsa

I got a new g923 recently and although i am playing F1 for now, I would like to try out proper entry level sim games. What do you guys recommend i get, Assetto corsa with all DLCs (10 dollars) or Automobilista 2 (35 dollars for all dlc, 3 dollars for the base game). I have modded tons of games over the years, so modding Assetto Corsa is not a problem IMO. Also how is Beamng, is that also worth looking into?

Please feel free to delete if this question doesn't belong here

Question What set up to get for r5 desk setup?

So I'm going to get a r5 soon but don't know what kind of setup to have. Like should I stick with the table clamps and drill the paddles to wood or get the wheel stand 2.0 orrrrrrrrrr get the GT lite pro. If anyone has these or returned any of them, let me know. And also I'm trying to have a slim setup because it needs to fit in my closet when I'm not using it.

Question Logitech G920 is giving no force feedback

Logitech G920 Racing wheel is not giving any force feedback.

Hello,

I got a new Logitech G920 racing wheel to use with my windows 10 PC. I installed Logitech G Hub, and plugged in my wheel to a USB 3.0 port on my pc. The wheel rotated itself around and recentered, while windows/GHub installed the necessary drivers. I can see the wheel in G Hub as well as control panel->devices and printers. I tested it out in Wreckfest and BeamNG but found that it was giving no force feedback. It is controlling normally - like it is stiff, and turning the wheel or using the pedals controls my car properly, but there’s no feedback from bumps, impacts, etc.

What I’ve tried: Uninstalled/reinstalled G Hub.

Restarting the PC.

Using a different USB port.

Calibrated the G920 in Control panel->devices and printers->game controller settings.

Removed all traces of old Logitech config files from program files, program files x86, %appdata%. Reinstalled G Hub, Plugged back in the Wheel, restarted the PC. No dice.

Thank you in advance!!

Question What Should I Go For Next?

My current setup:

Monitor: MSI 27" 1900 x 1080 180hz

Wheel: Thrustmasters T300 + SF1000

Pedals: Moza SR-P with Upgrade Kit

Rig: Next Level F-GT

Addons: 2 Bass Shakers (Throttle and Brake), 2 Bass Shakers (Back of Seat)

I'm debating on if I should get the NLR ES1 or 2 more monitors to make it a triple monitor setup. I'm slowly upgrading my rig to have a better immersion, not a fast racer but would love to have more vision while driving.

I have a Meta Quest 2, but I'm really getting motion sickness despite being on it for months.

Question What is this piece inside my g29 ?

Hello guys, recently my wheel was permanently spinning, so i opened my G29 but a part fell on the floor and i have no idea where i have to put it back. My question : could it be the " rotation limiter" and the cause of my problem ? and if so, where should i put it ? Thanks

Question Do I need to be good at simracing to get into iracing + beginner questions

I have been looking into iracing after spending most of my time on GT7 and ACC. I am not the fastest driver, if i know the track i can set a decent time however looking at the base tracks, I only know 1.

I have also heard if people cause crashes they get suspended/perm banned. What are the chances of this occurring? If i cause too many crashes, will i get banned and loose all the money I have invested into it?

My favourite series is GT3/Formula cars. How long and how much will it cost to get to this stage?

Finally, I was wondering how the game plays in VR. I have a PSVR2 with the PC box and was hoping to play on that as my monitor is small and is not the best for simracing.

Thank you for all responses and I hope you all have a very happy new year.

Rigs If you have a NLR F-GT, please I need your help

Hi,

I'm a 20 y/o trying to build a diy rig and was thinking of doing something similar to the F-GT, as I'd really love to be able to use both GT and F1 position but I can't afford to buy it at 500€.

I know there will be many challenges but I can get the materials for way cheaper than the rig cost and I have the place and tools to pierce, cut and solder it.
I've also seen many attempts at it from other people but they never really showed the full projects nor actual dimensions; also they're quite full of flaws like wrong distance from the wheel depending on the position, too much flex and such things.

Long story short I've spent hours trying to get the exact dimensions of everything to make a 3D model and use it as reference for when I'll actually build the rig (and see if there's something I might like to change), but I've only managed to find a single blueprint that costs 99€.

Spending that much on blueprints would kinda kill the whole point of diy, as it would instantly get 100€ more expensive, so I was wondering if anyone with a F-GT could take measures of all the rig, holes and guides comprehended.

I know it's a huge favour to ask so I understand if none will really take their time to do it, but I think someone with an iPhone could use the lidar sensor to do a 3D scan of it with maybe a 1x1 m box too for reference of the dimensions.

Sorry for the long paragraph and thanks to anyone willing to help!

Question Entry Level Sim Racing

Good afternoon,

I’m in the market for my first wheel and want to know what the community’s take on the Logitech G923 and ThrustMaster T248 are?

They’re both in my price range; anything higher is sort of harder to swallow.

What if I don’t enjoy it, ya know?

Everything I’m reading is pointing at the T248 since it has better FFB and magnetic sensor pedals.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
