Other my first sim racing injury

turn one at VIR, two wide, i stomp my race spec birks into my loadcell utilizing all 200kg its rated for (im a beast). my race spec birk clad foot blasts my poor brake pedal out of my wood rig proving how powerful i am. i hear the all too familiar sound of a hole being punched into drywall, my race spec clad birk foot collapses under the pressure and folds into my clutch pedal. boys i am limping right now what the hell i was just playing a game

obligatory rig set up in last pic. happy holidays! ill be back iracing, i will be back.

Bro you used wood screws to secure a 200kg load cell? Drill some holes and use some bolts, washers, and nuts.

It's not that wood screws are bad. They just need to be long enough, large enough diameter, & in a strong enough wood. Also, always use flat washers with slotted holes.

Oh wow, I wouldn't trust these little ones for an empty shelf made out of hollow wood let alone an LC brake

TL;DR You would need a huge hard chunk of wood and a large screw to match. Why cheap out on safety for your expensive rig? Just spent like $20 and use the correct hardware.

Why? Through bolt it

Not always an option. I agree when it is though.

I just visualized some dude screwing his new load cells to the hard wood floor lol

Do what you need to.

By the same token, through bolting a hardwood floor, or anything to a hardwood floor really 😅

I was looking at the screws as well, they look like hardware store sheet metal screws.

Order 12.9 grade zinc plated bolts.

Dear god, is he hanging the rig from the ceiling by the bolts for the pedals?

Rust protection. Should probably get the whole rig undercoated as well.

I just use 12.9 zinc bolts for everything.

Agree with this after seeing the rust comment below. Or at least get some oil to coat some SAE 5 bolts.

OP: Screws are such a bad choice for this regardless. Sheet rock screws will shear under load and wood screws are purposely designed to flex under load.

Washers, bolts, and nuts should have prevented this from happening. Some people love to live dangerously.

The problem is not using wooden screws, the problem is using the wrong size ones and shit wood for the plate
