u/ilikewaffles3 BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
That doesn't even make sense he struggled in 2022 due to the mclaren being an absolute shitbox that would always understeer. He has many tracks that he is great at, stop blindly following the Riccardo hate train.
13
u/Matkkdbb BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
The issue is not the McLaren being a shitbox, or being a car that doesn't suit his driving style. It's that his not outperforming his teammate, if the car is bad but he outperforms his teammate there wouldn't be any issue.
I don't understand what was the problem, he had a great 2020, and then he flopped on 2021, not beating Norris is somewhat okay, he's a great driver, but I mean, Tsunoda is not bad but I'm pretty sire Daniel from 2014-2020 would destroy him.
So yeah, he might have good tracks were he excels, but if he's loosing consistently to his teammate and only beats him in three tracks on the calendar, he won't stay for to long. You don't hire a driver for three races, you hire him for the year

Today was worst case scenario for him, this whole weekend was a debacle to be fair. Missed FP1 with Iwasa in the car, rain effected FP2 and then a full FP3. A brief appearance in qualy and a crash on lap 1 whilst Tsunoda scored another point. He’d be hoping this is the worst it gets for the season.

More likely NASCAR. Considering how much he loved Dale Earnhardt as a kid, I think he’ll follow SVG and run in the Xfinity second-tier series there with a few occasional Cup rides.
I love Danny Ric, but this was the worst ‘performance’ I’ve seen out him since Lando lapped him in Monaco. I think he’s officially done, his confidence is truly broken. Yeah, it’s a lap 1 incident, but it’s just the cherry on a very disappointing sundae. As much as I don’t want to see him get the boot, if he’s not performing by Canada or Austria then he’s got to go, the ride goes to Lawson for the rest of the season.

u/RxSatellite unfortunaly I still am a Ricciardo fan 🦡 Apr 07 '24

u/TheMadFlyentist not a Hamilton, but… Apr 07 '24
But some people defending him still, lmao
You said it yourself - it would be different if he were a rookie, but he's shown himself to be a capable driver over the years. This is almost certainly his last chance, but I don't understand the hate boner so many people have for him.
Daniel has more race wins than all of the drivers on the grid besides Lewis, Max, and Fernando. It's looking like he might be a has-been, but to act like he didn't deserve another chance after McLaren is insane.
31
u/i_have_a_nose BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
The hate comes from the grating delusional fans hyping him up and giving bajillion second chances. It feels satisfying not to see Danny do bad but them cry.

u/Xedtru_ Mika ends his sa🅱️🅱️atical Apr 07 '24
I'd argue that at this point of career this experience isn't upside but on contrary major downside. Pilots usually not getting better with time. With this amount of experience consistently wildly underperforming costs for way more, at least rookie would have excuse on nervousness and adaptation period. Daniel has none.
His chance ended with Checo getting his shit together. Now he just wasting seat. And hate boner isn't exactly toward Dan himself, but absolutely delusional fanbase which gives a solid run to worst of LH team.

Some people just don't like charisma. If they're given an anonymous chance to show it online, they'll be savage.
He was good. He's struggling. It's possible he'll pull out of it, and it's possible he won't. He'll always be at least an 8 time race winner, and a Monaco winner, and people will look back and say he was very good at his peak, like Coulthard or Massa or something.

"Why hate boner?" does not equal "people want him out of his seat".
People want him out of his seat for plenty of good reasons as well as bad ones. But people are savage because he rubs them the wrong way.
Also your comment history is hilariously obsessive. Calm down about it.
1
u/KyuubiReddit BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
His past doesn't matter. He's no longer good enough to warrant a seat when we know there is a capable rookie waiting on the sidelines that proved he could perform even under pressure.
His accident last year made it much more difficult for him. We all got to see Lawson race and most now want the clearly washed driver out in favour of the promising talent.

I saw todays crash as just a racing incident, nothing more. But because it's Danny... it'll be made out to his career ending move. I doubt his team see it this way, but i think his time is ticking regardless. Plus, the hype around some of the rookie drivers entering the grid can't be easily dismissed in terms of the viewership for the sport.
3
5
u/Bricky-boi BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
Equal blame across all three involved. I would say that it's a racing incident, that was caused by a mistake on Ricciardos part. Sure Albon shouldn't have tried to go around the outside, but ricciardo shouldn't have been that far over. More ricciardos fault than anyone else. Its not that I don't like Daniel, it's more that there are very capable people in the wings of f1 that deserve to have an opportunity, opportunity that is currently being taken up by some drivers who are past their time.
3
u/San4311 🇳🇱 I’m DUTCH so I support AMX 🇳🇱 Apr 07 '24
Disagree on the Ricciardo part. He was looking out on his left (Stroll, I think it was right?), then Albon snuck into a 2 car corner 3 abreast. For all Albon knew there was space, but Ricciardo would end up having to choose between squeezing one or the other.
As I said, its turn 1 chaos, with an unfortunate ending for two out of three involved.

I’d assume this was to be his last season if he wasn’t so marketable which might just give him another season. That being said when I’ve looked on Instagram his comments are full of variations of people saying he’s washed or should call it a day etc. so maybe he won’t be maintaining that marketability for much longer.
Personally I think he could save some face and still keep his ‘brand’ intact if he calls it a day at the end of this season and pivots into the media side of the sport

40% chance he's not coming back from Asia. Liam Lawson has been hanging out every weekend, and we all know he's solid af. VCARB is battling for points every weekend with Yuki.
DR can't get out of his own way it seems. Every interview with him sounds like he's in denial of something and just trying to push through. I'd much rather see him leave of his own volition versus being demoted.

I think if he doesn't start beating Yuki every weekend, there's nowhere to go but down.
2
u/KyuubiReddit BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 07 '24
Yuki scored 3.5x more points than DR since his return (and the 6 points DR scored were all in a single race...)
I am really not holding my breath for him to magically start performing.

I'm not expecting him to start performing, that's just the only way I see him getting a seat next year outside of Sauber.
I'd like to see Bottas and Ric hang it up in favor of any of the handful of drivers we've seen itching for a spot. I don't think either of them are offering much value to their teams on track.
And I only say Sauber cause it seems like they're mailing it in until Audi takes over.
