You said it yourself - it would be different if he were a rookie, but he's shown himself to be a capable driver over the years. This is almost certainly his last chance, but I don't understand the hate boner so many people have for him.
Daniel has more race wins than all of the drivers on the grid besides Lewis, Max, and Fernando. It's looking like he might be a has-been, but to act like he didn't deserve another chance after McLaren is insane.
The hate comes from the grating delusional fans hyping him up and giving bajillion second chances. It feels satisfying not to see Danny do bad but them cry.
