MOD RANT Before You Post: Read the Sidebar
On official Reddit Mobile App: Click on “Learn More About This Community.”
There seems to be a downward spiral in posted content recently, and the mod team has been doing what it can to filter it out. But the team isn't able to moderate every post as they happen.
A couple tips:
Read the sidebar. It has posting guidelines, it has starter car recommendations, it has the DRIFT BIBLE for beginners on techniques. Outside of actually getting seat time, the side bar should provide you with a very healthy amount of information. Anything else, just research it... That's part of the fun of learning a new skill or sport.
"Don't be an ask-hole." This is not Quora for drifting, its a subreddit to share cool stuff. Not to spoon feed every person who is moderately interested.
Lets keep this subreddit with positive content that supports each other. It can be frustrating for a content creator when when they see a snow donuts video get 500 upvotes, but someone can post a very legitimate edited and high quality video and they only get 4-5 upvotes.
edit: changed grammar to be less personable

Japan Creative Commons Footage - Where To Find?
Does anyone know where I can find creative commons / CC0 footage of Japanese drifting?
The only person that uploads videos of Japanese drifting on YouTube marked as creative commons paradoxically has a disclaimer at the start of his videos that they can not be used by 3rd parties.

Driftscussion When doing power over into a tight corner, how do you "trust" the car will open wide on the exit?
Heya, I'm not sure if this makes any sense and I apologise in advance for my bad drifting terminologies and a terrible diagram.
Say you're turning into the corner and the green line is where you start to add that "sharp and short turn in" steer into the corner whilst adding the sharp/burst of throttle before the rear steps out.
As soon as the rear steps out, how do you "trust" or predict that the car will exit wider(after the green line) and not spin out. Reason being I'm seeing clips of those "street" drifters on instagram with their BMWs doing this move and I can't quite wrap my head around it.
I hope its ok to ask, as I am trying to replicate that in the simulator with the same car and I can't quite to get it right and end up straightening out or spinning out.

Japan Question about drifting in Japan
My brother and I are going to Japan this august and would love to go drifting for a day. Is there any cheap way to make this happen? I looked up drift car rentals and they are quite expensive. We don't really have any real experience with drifting so we are looking for maybe a course or something like that. Appreciate any response.

Driftscussion LSD conversion kit
I was installing an lsd conversion kit from racing diffs and the c ring for the pin broke and taking the kit back out to replace the pin is a pain. I saw some people hammer the hole around the pin to fold some material over the pin. Has anyone tries this is it any good ?

Driftscussion Quick question regarding small angle mods
Project car coming together nicely, but I’m not ready to shell out $2k yet for a decent angle kit. So, can anyone tell me the difference between specifically rack/inner TR SPACERS and outer TR EXTENSIONS? I know spacers/washers mount to the inner/rack and some of their dynamics, but what do extensions do differently? Looks like they have the same effect, located further from the rack, with more adjustability? I already plan to get URAS super tie rods (spacer built in) but is there anything else I should pick up for this stage of my project?

Driftscussion Widebody downsides?
I need to add over fenders or widebody fenders to the front of my car since my wheels stick out after putting the FDF Mega Mantis angle kit on. I want to make the rear as wide as the front so it doesn't look so odd but I learned that the wider stance in the rear would lessen side bite during drift. Does anyone have experience with this? Is the difference negligible? This is for grassroots so I'm not trying to min max everything in the build, but if the difference is huge than I'd rather not do it.

Driftscussion What is the best state for Grassroots Drifting?
I'm from Northern California and I'm pretty happy with the tracks available to me, but being a car person here sucks. And it's simply too expensive to want to be here anymore among other things going on here.. anyway, I'm considering moving to another state but I don't want to go somewhere without being able to be a part of drifting. I've only heard things about Texas and Florida having pretty good scenes and possibly being affordable to live in. What do you guys think would be a good move?

Driftscussion Welded diff only spins when I use the engine
I’m in the process of installing a welded differential and it won’t turn by hand. I got the driveshaft on but to put the axle bolts on it’d be easier if I could spin the differential instead of squeezing my body in the wheel well to reach the top bolts. I can only spin the axle studs by spinning the driveshaft by hand. Is this normal? Have any of you guys had this problem

Driftscussion Drifting Feedback
Recently attended my second track event and ended up going off track. I believe this was due to me lifting off the throttle but not completely sure. Any feedback and tips to improve are welcome. :)

Driftscussion M52B28 E30 Touring for drift
Hi everyone!
I am thinking to sell my beloved car, which was built by love and a lot of passion. I would like to sell it someone who knows what this car can provide for an enthusiast. :) Sadly I have no time to maintain it and family needs the budget! :/ Base model is 320i Touring in color Estoril Blau.
Price is 8000EUR
Engine: M52B28 with big throttle body, M54B30 intake camshaft, M52B20 exhaust camshaft. Freshly renovated vanos (single), E28 M535 cooler (2 step). Writeable ECU. Engine makes 220hp on dyno. 0-100 is around 6.6 sec.
Driveshaft: Supported rear bridge, adjustable Koni shocks, one set 16 coll Azev-a wheels and set of basic wheels, brand new SKF 325 thicker axles on the rear
Differential is assymetric Type 188 lsd with ratio 2,93. Cluch is kevlar plated, the pressure plate is from 530D.Gearbox is an 28i 5 speed with shortshifter. Steering rack is from an E46 facelift.
Inside: E87 seats in front equipped adjustable back support. If you need I can give the M-Technik seats as well.
Many gags in the car as well (Oil temperature gauge, tensionmeter gauge, digital speedometer installed in the place of consumption gauge).
The car has done many long trips (~1000km) and many trackdays, Drift and slalom as well. Never ever have to repair anything and no issues. The build is very stable.
Cons: Rust :/ But I can help you out with a barely touched body
The car is located in Hungary, Eastern Europe. Many pictures and videos available.

Driftscussion Should I get my first project car before or after I start having drifting lessons?
So I will have drifting lessons and will learn it in 2025. So naturally I'll also start to do it without it being one of my lessons... and renting one out every time I go to the track is just impractical.
So I've been looking for some (to be) project cars, E36/E46ses, 1983-1993 Chevettes, Omegas (although not great due to the solid axle diff) among others.
So, a doubt me and my parents have: do we buy the project car before or after I start my lessons?
Mom thinks it'd be best if I got the car before so I wouldn't rely 100% on my team (btw they're also one of the local drift event organizers) and since the Brazilian Real keeps losing money, parts will, logically, become more expensive.
Dad thinks it's better to wait till I can drift to buy my first project car after I learn how to drift. His guess is that for starters I'll spend 50-80k BRL (8200-13200 USD) at least.
I still have to sort out a few things like where to store the car (we have a 2 car garage and it's full with our daily drivers. When my grandpa was over here back in october we had to put the Jeep outside and keep his Astra and our Civic in. It was very hard to manage three cars at once). How much I'll spend in a car. If it's a Chevette I'll need to rebuild the engine (or swap it), turbo it (if that PoS made 71 hp and about 90 ft/lbs in the 80's and 90's, it'd prob. be making 4/5 of that in 2024/25. So a turbo is mandatory) It needs a roll cage bcz it's almost made out of paper. Cheap E36 or E46 are auto and NEED a manual swap (manuals are 50k, but some autos are at around 30-40k. A rip-off ZF gearbox is for 18k, so it can be worth more getting an auto one and swapping bcz most manuals come with the Gertrag), can run N/A for a while but will need a turbo later on. I need a tune, an adjustable ECU (Fueltech), suspension and diff. We still need to pay off our house, so that's why we're being careful (we're probably gonna put up an excel spreadsheat later on to decide that).
So what advice? Do the lessons first, then the car? Car first? Which car should we pick? Any advice helps!
