Hey, I made a guide on the in-game terminology for different type of rare recruits. I don't see many people asking this, but I am sure many are confused. I certainly was when I first started playing:

Link to guide written in the comments.

You might want to add this under the FAQ. Or instead do you think this deserves its own post on the sub and maybe posted on the wiki?

If it ends up being used for a general purpose I can make the comment more general (I used a lot of examples from current content).

I can add it to the wiki FAQ, since it doesn't get asked as much

I am sure many might be confused about the in-game terminology about rare recruits versus the community terminology. This guide goes in-depth, but should answer as many questions you might have about these. Well, if you are still confused, you can ask in our weekly question megathread. Do send me (/u/BaronBones) a message if you found any mistakes in this guide.

First of all the game just calls them "characters available at rare recruit". The community just calls them "rare recruits" (RR). There is a very good site made by the french community and in particular for this guide I will be referencing the page with the list of RRs: https://onepiecetreasurecruise.fr/RRAnglais.html. Now, there are a few types of RRs and I included information on how to distinguish them:

  1. Sugo-fest exclusives (called legends by the community): those are the red posters or units of rarity (or that evolve into rarity) 6*. These characters are only recruitable during banner events categorized as "sugo-fests". Nowadays most banners are sugo-fests, but sugo-fests used to be much more rare (like even once a month) and now we are stuck with this terminology in the game.

  2. Normal rare recruits. Typically just called RRs by the community, but they are not called anything by the game. In order to understand which ones are these, make sure to pay attention if they are referred to as either "sugo-fest exclusives" or as "special characters". If they are not referred to as either, then they are just normal RRs. These are available all the time in any given banner. In the above link, the normal RRs are all the characters that are not under the legend section or under the limited characters section (when using normal mode, not batch mode)

  3. Special characters: these are units that are only recruitable when they are specifically mentioned. For every single special character, in order for them to be recruitable from a banner or from a ticket, their specific name has to appear somewhere in the notice for that banner (though for tickets they sometimes will say that the recruitable units are the special characters from some specific banner). Some of these are frequently available to be recruited in certain banners, while others almost never come back. There are actually several sub-categories in these:

  • Special characters. There is no in-game term distinguishing them from other types of special characters other than the fact that they are simply called "special characters" with nothing additional (like how the other types are called, see below). These are usually event characters, like anniversary, valentines, Christmas etc. Though not all celebration themed characters are special. For example, the valentines batch that came with legend Robin (STR Carrot, INT Koala, DEX Shirahoshi and QCK Nami) are not special characters. In the above link, the special characters are those listed under the "special limited characters" and "voyage dream" sections.

  • Special characters available in class pick up sugofests. Those are what the community calls LRR (limited rare recruit). This is what I will call them henceforth. In the above link, these are listed under the "Rare Recruit Limited Characters" section. You might sometimes see certain tickets that guarantee a LRR. The terminology here becomes confusing, but they are "Special Rare Recruit (special character guaranteed) x1". But first of all, forget about the "special" from "special rare recruit". That phrase is always used in such a situation (you will also see it for normal RR tickets which are called "Special rare recruit (4* or better guaranteed)"). What matters is what is shown in parentheses. However, this doesn't distinguish which characters are pullable. When you get the ticket in the mail you will usually get a more detailed explanation of the ticket and it will say what characters are available. For some tickets it will just list all characters right there, but for some others it will refer to the "Special characters available in class pick up sugofests" from a certain moment. Any LRR released before the moment specified in that ticket is pullable.

  • Treasure Map/Kizuna/Pirate Rumble Sugo-fest exclusive characters. Don't confuse this with "sugo-fest exclusive". The first phrase (Treasure Map/Kizuna/Pirate Rumble) is meant to be an adjective here. These characters are meant to be exclusive to a specific type of sugo-fests that release with a new TM/Kizuna/PR season. The community just calls them TM/Kizuna/PR RRs. The TM/Kizuna RRs can become available in other sugos, but that only happens rarely, while PR RRs are always available in any PR sugo. In the above link, these are listed at the bottom under their obvious sections.

  • Support characters. These are characters that are available in support banners and are meant to be used only as support units (they all have cost 1 and pretty weak special/captain/sailor abilities and have no limit break). In the above link, these are listed under the "Support Characters" section. Though there is a mistake in the link: Wanda is only a support RR on Jpn, while she is F2P only on global (so if you are playing global I wouldn't call her a RR)

Ok, the above was the guide that I corrected a bit and excluded examples from current content because imo it just makes things more confusing if someone reads that after a while. Please add it to the wiki FAQ.
