nah, Trump likes to sling mud in person, and if he's directly challenged his ego won't allow him to stand down. Besides, he needs that to project how fearless and strong he is to his cult or they'll desert him.

I’ll tell you why this was actually a smart / strategic play and actually helped given recent events… They just finished the RNC and trashed Biden for propaganda and social media clips. They intentionally announce he is stepping down, after the convention, making the whole rally irrelevant to Biden. They can campaign fresh now that the media rush is over. It was the smart play.
No it's not. The smart play was being a one term president like almost everyone assumed he'd be. This is just chaotic and it's going to face so many challenges and you cannot trust Republican judges as far as you can throw them
They are already in talks of stepping over her. They are going to be pushing Kamala but expect to see Gavin Newsome and Gretchen Whitmer be mentioned a lot more.

You're right but that's still longer than most countries campaigns. A new (YOUNGER) candidate can focus on running full-time at rallies and appearances. Neither Joe nor Trump can even come closer to a normal campaign schedule.
It is crazy how long you guys campaign for though. As an Australian it feels like our whole campaign cycle goes for about 2 weeks before the election, whereas you guys it seems like nearly 2 years
Still, i feel like a relatively unknown can still come in and steal the show when the alternative is Trump. I hope I'm not wrong in thinking there's enough unease with Trump that if someone who can get through a sentence comes in, they'll be seen as a viable candidate
It took prolonged coordinated effort of donors, elite democrats, pollsters and the press for this to happen. It's disappointing how power can be so intoxicating.
Biden should have actively sought to be a one-term president. He didn't, and that's on him. But I cannot think of a way that he drops out at any point this year, or last, that would have secured a win for the next person. Politics and voters are stupid, and being the incumbent has a good deal of value.
The media isn't going to attack Trump in any meaningful way. They sure as shit aren't going to be running the same age stories now that Trump is the oldest person running.
The other problem is that whoever runs has to be strong enough to have been a contender for nominee in 2028. We're basically asking that person to cripple their future campaign, to run against Trump. If they lose, everyone's just gonna say the Dems picked the wrong candidate, or they couldn't electrify the voters enough.
Exactly. They want to act like people overreacted to the debate. But they knew how he was and they were hiding it. They had ample time to come up with another candidate a d they did nothing. They should’ve be doing more with Kamala or someone else to get that person out and seen to take over. They did nothing a d they fucked us all.
