News Report š Family demands answers after Austin police shooting leaves man dead on his own porch

u/LazyBid3572 Dec 03 '22
"Drop the gun" and fires his weapon within less that a second... Wow
261
u/Dojodc Dec 03 '22
He was pulling the trigger while finishing the word gun.

u/dharkanine Dec 03 '22
Yup. He barely said it loud enough to hear, too.

u/djluminol Sourcer š Dec 03 '22
Didn't identify himself as a police officer either. This was a murder. There was no way for the homeowner to even process what he might have heard by the time the cop killed him. This is no different than the murder of Tamir Rice. Roll up, jump out and fire immediately with no warning, no announcement, no attempt to understand the situation or talk down the person holding the gun. The cop should be convicted for this.
I get from the cops perspective he just saw a man fire two rounds into a house. He assumes that is a bad guy. That is a reasonable assumption to make. What is not reasonable is firing shots before you know for sure. The cop should have identified himself and ask the man to drop his weapon. Instead he just murdered the homeowner. Like most cops they're trained to murder you instead of talk you down. The cop is right in that regard. He did follow his training.
38
u/dharkanine Dec 03 '22
Roll up, hop out, all in one motion.
Shooting at the house while the car's still rollin'.
22
u/PigSkinPoppa Dec 03 '22
How about just turn your fucking lights and siren on?

Dec 04 '22 edited Dec 04 '22
agreed, but better yet they all should just find a tall building and jump off the fucking roof (obviously with parachutes in gtav, for the love of god don't ban me for inciting violence). we see a video like this daily, sometimes multiple times a day, you think they're changing? fuck no.
20
u/MrIrishman1212 Dec 04 '22
Except for the neighbor said it was the owner outside his own house. So already it has been identified that the person outside the house with the weapon is the tenant. Yet, the police still shoot him with almost no warning.

Only if youāre not white. Iām sorry but if youāre a POC in Tx, you have no right to bear arms. You are immediately considered an aggressor.

False, even with cartel running through the state, plenty of Hispanics and other POC bear arms rightfully with no issue. A certain group is considered more dangerous and trusted less because of the statistics and history. Crazy that people have biases from what they have witnessed firsthand.

That's what caught me too. The cop said he was "trying to protect lives," meanwhile all he did is kill an innocent one. He's on paid vacation now.

Police in Austin, Texas require 480 hours of training.
Hairdressers in Texas require 1000 hours of training.

The target is there regardless. The cops will shoot you for holding a water bottle.
5

I've seen a comment elsewhere that I think said it best:
If you can be shot by police while open carrying on your own property, you do not actually have the right to bear arms.
392
u/Basilthebatlord Dec 03 '22
If this is how the police respond the the mere presence of a firearm, the second amendment is dead.

I hope it doesnāt take violence. Jan 4th showed a lot of restraint IMO. My hope is for the police to alienate themselves politically so some real reform can happen.
37
Dec 03 '22
Just look at Uvalde. In my mind, that's the worst. Letting children die. And how did that community respond? By keeping the same people in power who led to it. The masses literally aren't smart enough to want change. They're scared of it.
→ More replies (3)3
u/aron2295 Dec 04 '22
January 4th had restraint demonstrated because they were outnumbered.
The police are abusive spouses, they only have anger issues and violent urges around their S/O who they know theyāve beat into submission. At work, the bar, the mall, if someone crosses them, theyāll be happy to try and talk things out first.

Reminds me of a joke. A murder, a wife beater and an alcoholic walk into a bar. The bartender says "Good evening officer."
43
u/PauI_MuadDib Dec 03 '22
Been like that for awhile now. There was a big lawsuit where an officer in Minneapolis held a female driver at gunpoint just because he noticed her gun permit in her wallet and automatically assumed she was a threat to his "safety." I don't think she even actually had a firearm in her possession at the time either.
The police argued that simply having a legal firearm permit automatically makes you threat to their safety and they should be allowed to use immediate deadly force against you.
It was potentially an interesting 2A case. If police can kill you for just lawfully having a gun permit, do you really have a 2A right if police threaten your safety for just exercising your constitutional right?
Police in Texas were getting twitchy too about the change in gun laws.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/26/us/texas-guns-permitless.html.
But in a country with 2A cops need to understand that people have a right to carry, and that you just can't give into paranoia and murder everyone because you mistakenly "feared for your life." Cops wanna go home to their families? Well, so does everyone else. You are not more important than other citizens.
And if the police are too paranoid to responsibly handle a firearm maybe they shouldn't have guns outside of SWAT or special units. A cop recklessly handling a firearm is a danger to other officers and the public.

The NRA will not say a word about this - just like they do every time a lawful gun owner gets shot.

We supposedly have the right to bear arms, yet this cop drove up and shot this guy because he had a gun.
I hope this cop spends the rest of his life in prison and I hope after that happens, all other cops take note that they can't just shoot people when they feel like it. Judging by the videos in this subreddit, cops tend to get away with a lot and also tend to not be very bright, so I'm not holding my breath on either of those.
20
u/Dchama86 Dec 03 '22
And you wonāt hear the gun rights advocates say anything about it.
14
u/oddmanout Dec 03 '22
Gun rights people also tend to be opposed to giving money to poor people and children, yet they're very quiet about all the money that gets paid to people who get abused by cops.

It's always been crazy to me that nonwhite Americans have actually been convinced they can own guns in this nation, even when it's obvious that in the moment you actually need one, you very likely wouldn't shoot at a cop (if you even have the chance) and they wouldn't hesitate to shoot you. Knowing that, what's the point?
I'd only ever want a gun for the whole tyranny aspect, but as a brown dude, what's a gun to a bunch of cops and government-sanctioned "rebels" knocking at my door that have branded me a terrorist or antifa sympathizer? To go out guns blazing? Idk, I guess that just seems kinda dumb to me - that is to say, specifically supporting gun ownership (as a nonwhite American) knowing who owns most of those guns and knowing they'll never really help like stronger social/mental illnesses programs, better healthcare programs and better education programs.

Republican mouthpieces and bootlickers generally wonāt say shit for the same reasons youāve outlined however.

just saw this post from a gun sub. most people who actually give a shit about their 2a rights will be outright anti-police when it comes to the 2a rights.
at the end of the day we know whatever stupid gun control law that passes through will be enforced by the police, they are not your friends. they will enforce unconstitutional laws just because they are told to do it. while i applaud those that dont/wont i cant say i believe that is the majority.

"We need guns to protect ourselves!" As a police officer kills a gun owner on his own porch.
"We need guns to defend ourselves from an oppressive government!" As gun owners support a politician trying to overturn an election.
"We need guns to... uh... stand up to... other bad people with guns!" As gun owners do nothing after several mass shootings in elementary schools.
It's time we start telling gun owning psychopaths that their insane obsession is killing people. How many kids, innocent civilians, abused spouses would be alive today if it weren't for some absurd NRA fantasy that individual gun ownership is the only thing stopping us from descending into tyranny.
