Got mosquito problems? Help us improve mosquito control efforts in San Diego!

Hi everyone, I am a Public Health Master's student at SDSU. I'm working on an research project called VectorWise, which has a goal to better San Diego's mosquito control by understanding community knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to mosquitoes and the diseases they can spread. We're inviting San Diego County residents to take a short survey to share their thoughts and experiences. Your input will help us improve mosquito control efforts and protect public health in our community.

The survey is anonymous and only takes about 5 minutes to complete. It is available in English and in Spanish!

English Link: https://tinyurl.com/mosquitoSD Spanish Link: https://tinyurl.com/espmosquito

Thank you for your time and support-every response makes a difference! Please feel free to share this survey with others in the area.

Finally visited the San Diego zoo, our stroller was stolen in the first hour.

Moved to North County 3 years ago and have been waiting to visit the zoo until our toddler was old enough to enjoy. We decided now was a good time and we even purchased the membership. Our first stop was the basecamp area where we parked our stroller next to many others. We came back 45 minutes later and it was gone, we thought surely someone took it by mistake but after 10 minutes of waiting and looking around we flagged security and told them it was missing. They were helpful and got us a free rental and even some spare diapers for us. The stroller had a small bag with all of our toddlers needs, snacks, and meals for the day. It was a crap feeling and took away from what should have been a great day. Security did mention that they may have someone on camera and would let us know if it turned up but we didn't hear anything back, we also tried the lost and found at the end of the day.

The stroller and items were worth about $150 but it was more about the feeling and inconvenience.

Tldr; moved to SD 3 years ago and finally visited the zoo, a thief ruined the experience.

Voice of San Diego Treatment Beds Still Elusive as County Enacts Conservatorship Expansion

The same “endless review” permitting delay bs that keeps us from getting the housing we need to solve the underlying cause of homelessness also keeps us from getting the treatment beds we need to deal with the symptoms

If we ever want to be a well run affordable place to live we need to get over our culture of “delay and talk things to death”

Year 3 of Homelessness - Single with 4 Children

Upvotes

I'm 30 with two sets of twins, ages 6 and 2. I've been struggling with homelessness since I was pregnant with the younger 2. It has been nothing but a battle. I receive government assistance, which helps with essentials such as food clothing and occasional hotel. I just got childcare a few weeks ago although my kids can't go half the time cuz they keep getting sick. I would like a healthcare job so I'm saving up for a CNA course that I can do while my kids are at school. However, I'm very depressed because I've tried countless resources with no help. I don't have family help at all due to decades of abuse. It is hard to rent a room with kids. Also, my credit is shit at mid 500s due to living off of credit before I got on welfare and not being able to pay now. I'm considering bankruptcy. My kids attend a great school and it is a sense of normalcy for them so I'm staying in the county.

I'm posting here for advice to get out of homelessness. Ideally, I would like transitional housing as I'm working on getting into a nursing or radiology program for a stable career.

I've tried 211 so many times. Also reached out to my kids schools, the regional center (3 of my kids have special needs, possibly autistic), social workers, etc. I'm just told to call or contact xyz and when I do, there is never a response. Even on Christmas Eve I was on hold for THREE HOURS just to be hung up on saying there are no shelters/resources available. Every resource claims you need a referral but I can't get into contact with anyone for one.

I am seeking any advice please. (No judgement as that does not help my situation)

San Diego police non-emergency is a joke

Today I woke up to a car blocking the drive way I was in and had to goto work. Called 3 different towing companies all said need to call police since it’s public street. Then I called the non emergency hotline and cops never showed up . I guess people can get away with parking where ever on the street .

I just came from here and figured I’d let you guys know in case anyone here works on their own cars. All the Advanced Auto Parts and CarQuest stores are closing down here and they’re liquidating everything. I just got all 4 new brakes & rotors for $55 total, all new spark plugs for $16 total, and 5qt full synthetic oil with a filter for $25.

If it helps, you can go on their website and check the stock before you go down there.

Some of the ones I remember, but not in the picture Oil - 40% off Batteries - 40% off Adhesives (JB Weld, etc.) - 60% off Tools - 50% off

Sushi Recommendations

Upvotes

My wife is about 4 months pregnant and really craving sushi. She isn’t due until July, but she’s really wanting sushi when the baby is here. So I’m here to ask: What’s the best sushi place near Sharp Mary Birch? I want to start trying some around there soon so I can narrow down my favorites for her so she can just give me her order before we go to the hospital.

HVAC Replacement

Upvotes

Good morning everyone and happy holidays. I just had A/C Mechanical come out to give me a quote for two system replacements for my house. I have two 5 ton systems and I’m planning on replacing the ductwork. I’m going with the Carrier/Bryant heat pump equipment, the 38MURA model with the legacy 801s furnace. All in all they quoted me $20,000. That price includes duct replacement, two 5 ton system replacements, and permits with title 24 testing. Is this reasonable? Does anyone else have any clue? Thank you for your help!
