Tech Support How do I get the mic to work this Asus B650-P board?

Upvotes

I’m trying to help my son get his mic to work on Discord on a newly assembled desktop PC. Right now, he can hear voice but can’t transmit voice.

The app is Discord, the mobo is an Asus B650-P and his headset is a Steelseries of some kind. My best guess is that the issue may have something to do with the headset carrying sound and voice through a single input but the computer having separate inputs for sound and voice. (He didn’t have this issue when he used the same headset with his laptop, which has just one input carrying sound and voice.)

So he connects the headset’s single cord to the green input for sound but has no way to transmit voice (the pink input).

Am I right?

Either way, how can I solve this so he can talk on Discord?

(Is it also a possibility that the connector inside the case for voice is disconnected? I’m wondering because we tried a different headset that does split voice and sound, and still couldn’t get voice to work.)

I’m done with pcs for a while. I have assembled 4 pcs over the past 2 days and took apart one. I spent literally 8 hours trying to get the Lian li fans to work, now they do but aren’t being recognized by the system or L-Connect. The strimmer cables are absolutely beautiful. In total my upgrades were Strimmer cables, SL-Infinity fans, 1000 watt psu and a 7900XTX Specs: Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gskill Flare X5 DDR5 6000mhz cl30 Gigabyte B-650 Gaming X AX V2 AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX NZXT H6 flow NZXT C1000 PSU Samsung 970 evo plus 1tb WD Blue SN580 500GB

idk if anyone will notice but I twisted my strimmer cables. I was too lazy to finish them, but I’m sure there is a solution right?

Question laptops with accessible storage and memory panels?

Upvotes

For context I’ve owned an acer nitro 5 an515-53 since 2018 and I’ve been looking around for new laptop. One thing I’ve noticed that my laptop has that isn’t present in the newer models are the quick access panels to the Storage and memory that are present on my current one. Are there any laptops that still have something like that for quick and easy upgrades?

Tech Support Bottleneck help

Upvotes

I recently got a 5800xt for christmas and it was a silly decision for me to ask for it as my other specs are much much lower than what I just got. The recommended psu is 700w and I have a 600w along with a ryzen 3600x so this pc is barely running. Considering my cpu is so weak, how can I reduce this bottleneck enough until I get more upgrades??

Btw i’ve heard about turning up the resolution but using vsr only applies ingame and it did improve frames, just not gpu load as much. In elden ring it was running 70-80% while the cpu was 50-60%

Hardware BIOS settings

Upvotes

I just built my first pc and I want to know what are some good bios settings. I don't want to overclock my pc i just want to run normally and for my components not to be affected by some setting in the bios. Should I use the standard settings in the bios and not go to the settings at all and leave it?

Tech Support Secure boot won't enable.

Upvotes

Hello, my little brother wants me to play VALORANT with him, however when I installed VALORANT, it said that something along the lines of, "This version of Vangard needs secure boot enabled". When I checked the system information, it said it was off, but on the motherboards bios it said it was on. I have tried turning it off, booting the computer, and them going back to bios and turning it back on, it did not work. I have a gigabyte x870e aorus pro with the latest version of bios (f3h). Please help as I'm stuck.

Question Back to School computer choice

Upvotes

So school is a month away where you bring your own laptop

So I have a macbook pro that i was gonna bring but now I am debating and want your opinion because of one of my subjects

So I have Creative Arts (Video Editing) I use video editing software (Mainly Sony vegas or premiere pro) so I was going to get a desktop but now I'm debating on

Should I get a PC with a 4080 and a ryzen 9900 because what I will be doing on it is just video editing and playing gta, fortnite and other games like red dead 2

Now I am thinking I should get a Surface pro as I like the tablet functionality, the oled panel, the pen etc. I don't mind that it is windows on arm it runs my apps and for games I would just buy a ps5 down the track after my xbox gives up because it is on the verge to and having the surface pro would give me the functionality to do everything on one device and I would plug it into my home monitor (samsung smart monitor m70d) etc.

What should I do get the desktop or get the laptop and a ps5?

To be fair if I get the laptop I would pair it with my s24+ and screen share whilst in class and watch tiktok when I'm in range which will be 12 lessons a week i think

Thanks, Kenny

Question Anychance of Upgrading??

Upvotes

Is there any chance of upgrading my all-in-one desktop's cpu and gpu??

I have already upgraded my ram and did some ssd upgrade but the specs I have doesn't meet the minimum requirements for any moderate graphics games !!!

Yeah ik it's not possible to upgrade since it doesn't have that much space but is it possible to have any external gpu connected to it or something that could at least make this pc playable for moderate graphics games!!

By moderate graphics games I mean games which have decent pc requirements like X-Plane 11, BeamNG, Need for Speed Payback....etc. I don't need to run those in like 1080p full hd but at least have some good fps to play yk !

My PC Specs:-(It's a HP AiO)

Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-8130U CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz

GPU - Intel UHD 620

Ram - 12GB

HDD - 1TB

SSD - 256GB

System Type - 64bit

Edition - Windows 10 Pro

Tech Support Audio Output No Longer Switching Automatically Windows 11

Upvotes

So I'm running Windows 11 and recently allowed Windows and Armoury Crate to perform updates and ever since I've been having issues. Prior to the updates my audio output would change automatically if I plugged my headphones in. After the update I couldn't get sound through my speakers at all. I had to revert from the Realtek update to High Definition Audio Device to allow the speakers to work again. But now I have to piecemeal every single thing when switching between headphones and speakers.

I'm in voice chat in Discord right now and have to individually change the output to headphones. And then if I forget to change it in Windows settings I'll be getting voice through my headphones and chat notifications through the speakers. It's driving me absolutely mad and I'm simply not savvy enough to know what exactly got changed and how to change it back.

Tech Support Please Help!! I let the kid use my gaming PC for a week!

Upvotes

I got my son a few part upgrades for his PC as a Christmas gift, and Best Buy was installing them for free with warranty so they had his PC for the past week. What I expected to only take them a few hours or a day or so at the most, actually took them over a week to install. Wasn’t a big deal, I understood it was a busy time cause of Christmas, and I worked 5 of those 7 days, so I just let him use my PC. He is 12, and I told him he could put his games on mine and play cause it was the beginning of his break from school, and I took his machine away.

This morning while he was playing on it, the circuit breaker tripped for the outlet that my setup is plugged into. I have a surge protector power strip, and we lose power all the time because the township has been really messing up with the grid lately. So I don’t think anything happened when the breaker tripped, but I just wanted to put the info out there just in case.

Anyway, onto my PC that is having issues now. The problem is that now anytime we launch any game, it crashes. Right now I have been playing Marvel Rivals, and I play other games like WoW, Ark, and a bunch of RTS games. Now I never had any issues until I downloaded Rivals 2 weeks ago. It would run fine for a few matches, and then in the middle of playing, crash to the desktop. I tried updating my drivers and windows updates, and then it seemed to go away. Didn’t really run into any crashing issues again. My son had it this past week and installed god knows how many games, but didn’t tell me he had any issues. Then today after the power issue, he said his games kept crashing whenever he tried to play. I got on and my crashing issue was back with Rivals.

Let me preface this by saying I have a VERY BASIC knowledge of what I’m doing. If someone walks me through steps, I can do something, but I have no clue where to look to begin to solve issues. But here is what I have done so far.

I have updated all the drivers from AMD and NVIDIA, did all my Windows updates, reset the PC countless times during the process of installing drivers, and even tried lowering my resolution settings. Nothing changed. Usually when it crashes it doesn’t tell me why it crashed. No error box or anything. But 1 time I did get “Out of video memory” error box that flashed and then closed on its own. And once my son did get “GPU device was lost. Game cannot continue.” Google is telling me that I need to upgrade my GPU, but I don’t think that’s the actual problem.

I’m running Windows 11 on a RTX 3070ti and a Ryzen 9 7900X processor. Mobo is a Rog Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi. Running 32GB ram.

I don’t know what else to do to try to fix the crashing issue. Everything else seems to work just fine, but the second a game starts to demand some performance, it just crashes right back to the desktop. Please help.
