The problem with locks on animal cages is that the locks have to be simple enough for the average human to figure out but complex enough for the average beast to never understand.

Don't worry anyday now AI will completely replace us. Make all the posts and all the comments, and then watch and read everything. Once in a year we will get an email about at post worth checking out and that will be it. And we will finally be free from reddit! What will YOU do with your 2500 extra hours a year?

isn't regular speech people just regurgitating things they heard at others?
like how often is what you're saying a completely original thought? Next to never, I'd think... but maybe I'm just unoriginal / not creative.
2
u/Pookiebear987 24d ago
You are just unoriginal / not creative if you think that people only regurgitate what others said and never think of ideas that are novel or unique. Tons of ideas are novel, most of them just suck.

u/QuadCakes 24d ago
Hasn't it always been that way? Narwhal bacon, etc

We pretend we're unique but afaik essentially all groups have slang or shorthand they use to signal comfort to each other

You mean the narwhal bacons at midnight, good sir, we do not have to hide anymore. The shame of the old ways has been forgotten and now we rememberers who once cringed can wear their memories with pride, for we have endured the words to being forgotten.

I once thought about how someone should make a compendium of common "Reddit facts". There are some that are regurgitated every single time something is brought up, and they have been regurgitated for decades.
Gordon Ramsay? Did you guys know that Gordon Ramsay is actually a fairly calm person outside of American TV and that it's mostly an act for American audiences?

Using "child safety gates" instead of pet gates, allows you to figure if your dogs are more intelligent than a pre-schooler.

I have this exact kennel at home. There are two thumbscrews on the latches that would be impossible for a dog's tongue to open while properly screwed. This dog is smart, no doubt, but couldn't get out of this cage if it were closed correctly.
That said, my wife had trouble opening it the first time we used it.

u/quajeraz-got-banned 24d ago
The overlap between "dumb human" and "smart dog" is too high for that to be possible.

u/fwbtest_forbinsexy 24d ago
I have to put foundation blocks in front of my dog's crate because he figured out a million ways to open the crate or get under it somehow.
Has never gotten past the blocks, though. I feel bad, but coming home to a completely torn up room and hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in property damage hasn't been fun.

I have this crate, it has small screws that secure the latches to prevent this.

My husky mix quite literally liked her way through the metal bars enough that she could teat the door off the hinges. She's patient when she wants to be, but nooooo, when I need her to be she's a ball of fluffy chaos... I love that little fucker

Did something happen or why are the nanny dogs being posted over and over?

19
u/PopDownBlocker 24d ago
My exact reaction, too.
This video even has a nanny with a much smaller dog that is still alive. I'm sure the opposite of this has happened somewhere, so this post shot up in response.
As is the norm on Reddit.
The truly sad part is that there are so many incidents now, you can't even pinpoint the exact one that inspired this post.

My cousin taught his dog how to open doors
One time she was upset as being left home alone with 4 or 5 other dogs. She proceeded to lead them from room to room peeing on every bed and sofa in the house.

u/mobird53 24d ago
My GSD learned he could just swipe his paw on that right side and it would open up. I had to get another lock to add to the cage as those latches are worthless.

Get a set of medium carabiners (climbing grade are unnecessary, but if affordable are a good option) and clip around both sides of the door in addition to the built-in locks. Learned this rhe hard way with my first dog with terrible separation anxiety

Owner is taking a huge risk having a pitbull type dog in the kennel with a small vulnerable dog. When it snaps the lil dog is done for. Pitbull type dogs main diet consist of children, elderly and small animals. You can see how intensely focused it is at getting out of the cage they are known to tear apart walls and cars to get to their target

I used to have a BlackLab/Staffy cross that I would describe as "Too smart for her own good".
When people asked what I meant by that... this is the sort of shenanigans she'd manage to pull off!

Had a chihuahua that needed a padlock to keep from escaping. Not to lock in. To make the latch too heavy for him to open with his lil paws
