Played the game for the first time around 8 years old with my buddies ps2. Just did my first run through since at 28 with my ps5 and finally ended that chapter.

Got my first ever platinum as well.

Glad itā€™s done. I swear some of those levels I swore worse than a sailor.

Just finished the Jak trilogy. 1st one has that classic feel. 2nd one might be the best but its too hard. 3rd one is fun but too easy?

Jak 3's Biggest Mystery: The Eco Crystals

To my esteemed colleagues and fellow eco guardians,

Today, I wish to direct your attention to a mystery that has been gnawing at me (and I wonā€™t hide it): how that oaf Jak and his chatty little rodent managed to gather the white and black eco crystals to save the world ā€“ all without, in my opinion, fully understanding what they were doing.

It all began at the Monk Temple, nestled in the Wasteland. An ancient sanctuary, said to have been built in the earliest days by our enigmatic Precursors. Today, this place is safeguarded by Seem and her Golden Order of monks from Spargus. They study black eco, white eco, and the ancient war that once pitted the Precursors against the Dark Makers.

Seem : "Erol is attacking the Monk Temple! He wants the secrets we have kept concerning the Dark Makers."

Mar, that time-traveling founder of Haven City, once adorned the temple with his very own seal. A clear indication that this site ā€“ and the wells of eco it holds ā€“ bears the mark of his legacy. A legacy that Jak, that impatient young man, appears to be the final heir to.

Monk Temple

Mar and Jak share one significant trait: balance. Balance between shadow (black eco) and light (white eco), symbolized by Marā€™s seal. Alas, such nobility didnā€™t stop Veger, that self-absorbed count, from feeling robbed by the prophecy. You see, an immense power was said to be destined for the ā€œfuture champion of the Precursors,ā€ and Veger immediately self-appointed himself as the only one worthy of the title. To achieve his goals, he tasked Seem with a mysterious "job".

Veger : "Just continue your work, and I'll deal with those idiots in Haven. I promise you will meet your makers!"

This job was undeniably connected to the Catacombs, A place that, according to legend, leads to the Precursor Planet Seed.

"The deep place where the planet was first formed by the ancient ones."
Jak 3 Design Bible

It is said that the Precursors raised Mar there, granting him extraordinary power to save the world in ages past. Veger sought to replicate this feat, to eliminate the Dark Makers and solidify his so-called legitimacy.

The catch? Activating the Precursor technology within the Catacombs required the union of eight crystals: four white eco and four black eco. And as far as we know, the Dark Makers themselves were dropping their black crystals from those abominable satellites that crashed onto the planet.

EDIT: or they were likely using those satellites as scouts, searching for the eco crystals across the planet.

Erol, their ally, wasted no time mobilizing his Metal Heads to hunt these artifacts. Meanwhile, Seem dispatched her monks (and Jak, incidentally) to counter their plans.

Our Jak eventually recovered the final crystal from Erolā€™s floating KG War Factory. But hereā€™s where things take a peculiar turn: upon Jakā€™s return from the factory, the Eco Sphere ā€“ the mysterious sphere formed by the fusion of all eight crystals ā€“ appeared in the inventory without any explanation. As if, poof, with a snap of some cosmic fingers, the forces of white and black eco decided to merge into a single sphere.

The Eco Sphere

And so here we are: Veger boasts of being the only one who knows the true fusion process, suggesting that this mysterious ā€œjobā€ given to Seem was to uncover the ritual key for uniting the crystals. Yet itā€™s Jak who wields the sphereā€¦ while Veger grumbles in the shadows. Letā€™s just say thereā€™s an eco-logical gap here (and perhaps a narrative gap, too, if weā€™re being honest).

Veger : "I've got the answer you're looking for. My Precursor Monks have given me the knowledge to turn on the planetary defense grid. If you beg me to do so..."

Could there have been sequences, cut due to time and budget constraints, where Jak would have had to learn from Onin, Seem, or Samos, how to awaken the Catacombs without Vegerā€™s help? Perhaps a series of missing missions, an arc where our heroes wrestled with doubts about the methodā€¦ Who knows? The mysteries of game development are often thicker than a cloud of Dark Eco spores.

Still, itā€™s clear that once in the Catacombs, Jak does use the Eco Sphere to activate the Precursor technology.

A planetary defense system comes online, unleashing a concentrated burst of black and white eco from the very core of the planet, aimed at that accursed Dark Maker ship. No less than living proof that the sphere was indeed the key.

And yet, despite all this, many questions remain. What was the true nature of the job given to Seem? What were Erol and the Dark Makers planning to do with the crystals? How did Jak manage to fuse them into the sphere?

For my part, I could debate these details for another thousand years: after all, I age like a fine barrel of sap. But now, I turn the floor over to you, noble defenders of the eco. What are your theories? Let us unravel this together.

How did I ever beat this?

I remembered getting Jak 2 for my 9th birthday and was so stoked because I Jak and Daxter was the first game I got with my PS2, don't get me wrong Jak 2 was very hard at points but I did beat it. Now replaying the trilogy at 30 I just can't for the life of me with this game lol I just keep going back 100% the first one because I'm stubborn and don't wanna skip to 3 without beating 2

OpenGOAL Ultrawide cutscenes?

Hey all, I'm loving OpenGOAL right now and was wondering if there's a way to play the cutscenes in an ultrawide resolution? I would ask on the Discord but I tried joining and it's being weird.
