General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.
Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.
You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.
Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:
Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging
If you experience issues with your battery:
Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
Its so unconventional and i need to do so many extra steps just to get what i want. Like before everything used to be so clean and organized and i knew where to find everything, now its sooooooo hard to find what im looking for. Idk i just wanted to say that because its just so annoying
You might have “send as text message turned off”, but this doesn’t apply to RCS. So let’s say you sent a video to someone but they weren’t in an area with coverage temporarily, unlike iMessage where it’ll wait for them to come online, RCS on iPhone just sends it as an expensive MMS instead. I can’t find a valid reason why they’ve done this, other than to kick people who use RCS in the teeth.
For some reason I often find myself current out heads/faces and putting them on other photos. It’s a thing we do, and the chortle is worth it. I used to use photoshop for this but as my sub has ended I need an alternative. When the source picture is appropriate I can use the ‘sticker’ feature in WhatsApp to slap a face sticker on a suitable canvas, but when not - what options are there now?
When I read articles on Safari, I used to select a part I want to keep and highlight it using "add to a quick note".
Apparently this feature is gone : the part is not highlighted anymore. Moreover, the quick note used to stay on screen through a little window that you could put aside and grab back using a little arrow (like on iPad). Apparently it's gone too.
Am I the only one that noticed these changes ? Are they normal or is there a way to solve it ?
Hi all! So it looks like something is off with my message syncing. (See below -- regardless of whether or not I've got them connected to iCloud, they are taking up 77GB on my MacBook, but only 5.5GB on my phone.)
This has been discussed before, but not recently, so I figured I'd start a new thread to make sure the advice is still relevant. I've surfaced a thread from two years ago in which u/special_agent47 suggests the following:
There’s a syncing error between one or more of your devices that’s creating extra copies of your messages and attachments.
Because iMessage in the cloud doesn’t really allow users to tinker aside from turning on/off and deleting “top conversations,” the only way to reclaim that space is to disable messages in the cloud across all devices using it with that AppleID, waiting for them to physically download to the device(s) and then going through EACH device to delete the conversation threads or attachments.
Then you have to wait 30 days before re-enabling. When you re-enable, make sure to delete all the conversations from each device except for the one you’ve chosen as the primary device or “source of truth” otherwise it will upload everything each device has and you’ll have to start all over again. It’s madness and extremely time consuming, but it works.
Edited to note: if you don’t have enough device storage to do this, try temporarily deleting apps from that device so there’s enough space
Before taking the next step, I want to triple check I'm not about to lose all of my message history.
What I was about to do was:
Turn off iCloud sync:
On laptop: Messages > settings > unselect "enable messages in iCloud"
On phone: Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > unselect "messages in iCloud" under "APPS USING ICLOUD"
Delete all local messages + attachments from my Macbook. I figured I'd look up + use a terminal command for this.
Note: I am unclear as to whether or not I should "sign out" at this stage. If so -- do I sign out before or after deleting local files? I do not need to use messages on my laptop, so I don't mind staying away from the app for a month.
Wait 30 days, and then reverse step one (turn on iCloud on my laptop + phone again. Note: does the order in which I turn these back on matter?).
My hope is that this will fix whatever nightmare is causing the messages to take up 70GB of space without losing any message history, however I'm not 100% sure I'm interpreting the suggestion from u/special_agent47 correctly.
I want to make sure that step 3 will sync the messages back to my laptop rather than syncing the deletion from my laptop to my phone. Does that make sense? Basically, I am worried that once I sync my devices again, I will accidentally trigger a mass delete on my phone.
Thank you in advance for any and all advice! Appreciate y'all!!
I have many unsaved photos because my iCloud storage is full. I want to update my device but I am scared to do so because I don't want to lose any photos. Has anyone done the update with unsaved photos, and how did it turn out?
The phone is brand new, I wanted to restore from backup, it said I need to make an update but it doesn’t update. It’s been like this for more than one hour . What should I do?
What’s the most niggly-but-rage-inducing gripe you have with iOS that you’re amazed hasn’t been noticed or fixed?
Mine has to be: why does the Clock widget have to be timezone fixed? I just like having a large clock on my Home Screen and every time I travel somewhere it then has to be updated manually. Why can’t I just select “Local time”? Plus the clock would look nicer without the city abbreviation. Grrrr.
Has anyone else been struggling with extremely slow download speeds for app updates recently? I have gigabit fiber and have never had an issue with the speed until a couple months ago when all of the sudden it started taking 5 minutes per update.
A few days ago my wife’s 1 year old iPhone 15 Pro started to act quite laggy, most apps wouldn’t load/kept crashing etc. Then the phone itself began to do this just navigating the home page and settings. There was a software update for 18.2 sitting there so I tried to start that but the loading wheel just span until the settings tab froze. I also had a look at restoring the phone but couldn’t do this as new terms and conditions needed to be accepted, this couldn’t be done because it would freeze upon trying to load them. After a lot of playing about, I managed to update to 18.2 though iTunes on my PC, now when I open the phone it shows the usual “hello” after an update but once I’ve unlocked the phone to get get started the screen is just black, with a grey bar along the top that shows the time, battery etc.
Hopefully someone has some idea on how to resolve this🙏
I was using the sleep schedule alarm on weekdays with no issues and then I took a week off work and didn’t want to be bothered by the alarms so turned them off. Now I’m about to go back to work on Monday and want my alarms to start again but when I turned them back on I ran into issues.
I couldn’t turn on my old sleep schedule, I’m not sure why but I couldn’t find a way to turn it back on. So I deleted it and made a new one. After this I go to the clock app and check the alarm and it says the alarm is set for tomorrow which is Sunday and not what I want! I do not want alarms on the weekends, only the weekdays.
I restarted my phone in hopes that would help but it did not. I changed the times on the alarm too but that also did not fix the issue. My phone still says the wake up alarm is only for tomorrow and I can’t figure how to make this work.
I use Shareit to share large files from my Android app to iPad...
It's the best in terms of speed. I don't know how does it do it, but it creates some "temporary" WiFi network that both devices connect to (this is WiFi direct I guess)... I didn't see an app that does it the same way (speed)...
But it's also the worst app ever in the way it shows ads, I barely can use the app. And they made it difficult to find the received files so I keep using the app and see more ads.
My experience with it is that it's an unusable app.
I'm not against ads as I'm not planning to buy a file sharing app. But all I'm asking for is a moderate ads plan not an ad app.
I tried some other apps, but none of them comes close to Shareit in its speed.. I just tried an app called Send Anywhere, that used WiFi direct, but it's so slow compared to Shareit...
If the technology that Shareit uses not a proprietary to it, I think there should be more powerful alternatives...? Any idea?
I'm a bit confused with syncing music.I want to be able to add music from my iTunes library on my MacBook as well as add songs from Apple Music to my phone. I don't want to have to upload my entire 250gb library to iCloud. It seems like that way, you can't actually have copies of the music on your phone. Is that correct? Seems stupid to have to waste my data plan streaming music I already own. I'm getting the "you can't play this song from your region" BS when I try to play songs I ripped from my cd's.
i have a medication alert on my calendar that has always vibrated until i hit the volume buttons to dismiss it. since the new update, my calendar doesn't make noise or vibrate at all and i've missed days of mediations because it just never reminds me, aside from the banner notification that pops up for a few seconds.
how can i get it back to vibrate until i dismiss it? the medication app also doesn't alert me.
The phone thinks I was on it from 4-8 o'clock when I was sleeping. These grey bars give me zero information about what my phone is doing and they're jacking up all the other hours as well. It's ridiculous and I can't find any official source about what they mean.
Hello! I was recently on a trip and bought an eSIM for while I was abroad. When I set up the eSIM I think I mistakenly set iMessage to use my eSIM number. Now I am back home and I am getting a message that I need to enable iMessage to send messages.
I can’t for the life of me figure out how to fix it, wondering if anyone can help!
My iPhone 11Pro Max has started to seriously lag, freezing on white screen, etc. I’ve had the latest update for a while. Battery health is at 72% - it’s advising service to the battery.
What I’m wondering is- is the best move to have the battery serviced/replaced? Or is this when I need to upgrade my entire phone?
When I open the Camera app, it shows me a black screen for quite a while, and I can’t take any photos or videos. How can I fix this? This also happens in Snapchat. (iOS 18.2)
I thought I saw it somewhere but just went through all my settings and can’t seem to find it. I might be imagining it. Can I have Siri automatically read an incoming text if I have headphones in? Saves me the trouble of having to grab my phone while at work.
