Politics If Woody Guthrie was a Liberal
Was listening to the Woody Guthrie episode and I thought I'd do this mock-up of what he'd look like as a liberal.

Woody Guthrie's also had a song about Donald Trump's slumlord father
I can't believe Robert Evans didn't mention this song by Woody Guthrie about Donald Trump's slumlord father. For all of his faults, Guthrie was something of a prophet of our modern era:

Prescribed that I stop paying attention.
Anyone else ever been told by a mental health professional that they should stop consuming news and history? I’ve had a Psychiatrist and a therapist both tell me to log off. Not just for a break but for good. I listen to Democracy Now and the Majority Report every day and various other podcasts when I have time (on the media, BTB, Some more news, stuff like that). I’m sure it gives me anxiety and some degree of hopelessness but when I don’t I feel alone and disconnected. Not to mention guilty. I realize that I’m lucky to have mental health care at all (no it’s not covered and no I can’t afford it but I could afford it before I had insurance). I also realize I’m in a place of great privilege in that I can (at least for now) stick my head in the sand. I know that my brain is physically defective. I take at least 7 pills a day to try to maintain a somewhat normal life. I think I’ve started rambling here. I was just kind of wondering if anyone else feels like anxiety and depression are the rational response to reality.
Edit to say I’m actually supposed to be working right now but I wanted to say what a great community this is and that I’m going to come back and read and contemplate all of these comments.
Edited again to say. Wow what a community. I want everyone to know I’m ok. I’ve had some very dark periods in my life and this honestly is not that bad in comparison to some of the others. I was out of therapy for a long time because I was doing really well but a few years ago I went through some hard times and went back. I’m really very lucky that I do have so much support. I’ve got a very good and accommodating work situation. My family is pretty supportive and my immediate family at least are not fascist. I’ve actually got a wife and our relationship is healthy. The one thing that has come up over and over again in the comments is getting more involved in my local community. I think that’s a very good idea. I don’t know exactly what yet. I’m in a pretty small very conservative town in South Carolina so I might have to get creative with it. I’ll figure something out though. Helping people has always been good for me. Thank you all. Even the cynical bastards who see the world for the dumpster fire it really is. Game recognize game.

Everything sucks
I don’t even want to be alive anymore.
Is anything ever going to get better
The internet fucking sucks, especially social media. It's all just racism and spam ads now. Al is going to grow until it becomes indistinguishable from reality.
Trumps going to crash the economy with tariffs
The government programs that I rely on are going to be cut because of DOGE
Im a 20-something year old living with my parents.
I cannot endure another 4 years of budget cuts. I rely on these government programs and musk is going to cut all of them.
I will literally die if I don't have Obama care, and that looks to be on the chopping block
I fucking hate Elon musk, Donald Trump, all of them. I hate the people that voted for him and I hope to god that if trump succeeds in his budget cuts, that it hits his voters the hardest.
I hope every last one of his voters get 100% fucked over. Homelessness. Medical bankruptcy. Starvation.
Because im fucked if these programs get cut. 77 million people looked me right in the face and told me to go fuck myself.
There's no hope for a nation that voted for this.
I would like to think that it would have been easier if I lived in XYZ country, but the cost of living crisis has hit every corner of the earth. Everywhere is fucked.
Everything is about politics these days. My ResistLib mom always wants the news on and I can’t stand it. She’s constantly yelling at the tv or in an argument with my dad about whatever trump did.
And I have to do another four years of this shit. It’s been 9.5 years already since he came down the escalator and I can’t do this anymore.
The fascists won. I’m never coming out of the closet.
I go back and forth of whether this godforsaken nation is really just fucking stupid for sincerely believing trump would lower prices, or if this is like the 1980 election in which it was a backlash against civil rights of the 1960’s and 1970’s (this time being trans rights)
I really don’t feel like living at this point.

This Machine Still Kills Facists
Aka a mostly acoustic album by the Dropkick Murphys, hailing from PodMom Loftus' hometown, Boston.
They cover and sample some Guthrie songs, which is nothing new as one of their most famous songs, Shipping Up to Boston, used his lyrics. But that wasn't even the first time they did that (There's Gon a Be A Blackout Tonight).
Tldr - Dropkick Murphys love Woody too and are keeping his spirit alive.

An episode on Boss Tweed & Tammany Hall political machine would be perfectly timed right now...
Boss Tweed is romanticized by many but was a real corrupt POS who stole millions of money from NYC during his reign in the 1860-1870s.
A hard line comparison can be made to him and trump on many things, but the recent flurry of memes of Musk shown as trump's handler/owner/babysitter that has impacted the MAGA world, has some great echoes of how Tweed was eventually taken down.
During Boss Tweed's reign Thomas Nast, deemed the father of political cartoons, made his famous cartoons as Tweed being a fat oafish swindler. His drawings not only got under the politicians skin but turned the tide of Tweeds public opinion.
“Let’s stop those damned pictures,” Tweed reportedly said. “I don’t care so much what the papers write about me—my constituents can’t read, but damn it, they can see pictures.”
Nast started his drawings of Tweed in 1869 when the bastard was still in full power/control of the city, with every scandal coming out Nast added more and more cartoons, eventually creating over 160 images highlighting Tweed & his cronies as swindlers, bullies and vultures. The cartoons were a hard definite aid in taking down a bastard.

Discussion I hate the way online liberals talk about the south..
I just recently heard a 'liberal' describe the south as just 'an infected wound that needs to be amputated.' Which kinda sucks for us leftists in the south who are basically left to fend for ourselves against hordes of republican chuds. and thats just one example. I understand it to some degree- the south is deeply in the hands of the republicans and from the perspective of a northern liberal it must seem like the south is holding everyone else back. But this ignores that the real 'problem' is the rich elites who extend their control over the south and its culture through their immense wealth. We have the same enemy!
edit- Okay, Im gonna try to save us all some time because I keep getting asked the same questions. Point 1: No, I cant just move. There are complicated and reasonable reasons I cant. Point 2: Yes, I understand that the conservatives are worse and say meaner things. Your very smart. No, I wasnt trying to say that liberals are worse than conservatives. and finally no, it doesnt justify you to say whatever you want. Of course you are free to say whatever you want, Im just gonna judge you for it. lol.

Listening to the episodes about Scott Adams before work and I hear a song from The Boondocks suddenly play and I feel like I'm having an out of body experience.
Just chilling with the pod on and they're talking about the downfall of the Dilbert TV show and how Adams blames the network shifting towards a black audience and music sting from The Boondocks just starts playing very loudly out of nowhere and I'm questioning if it's a very strangely chosen sound drop in the pod or I'm hallucinating before I realize someone's ringtone is going off. It was the strangest timed thing but it amused me because here they are talking about Adams blaming black people on his failing while a very successful and fantastic adult cartoon based on a comic strip made about black people by black people starts playing disembodied out of fucking nowhere.

Considering this guy was not traditionally left leaning…
From his online footprint it seems like Luigi did not meet the mold many would have expected of a left wing revolutionary. Also considering I have been seeing a lot of “the right looks for allies, the left looks for rats”, I created a new group r/ClassConscious . It’s supposed to be a thread where we can share ideas/memes with people of different political beliefs to continue to solidify the idea of class consciousness in the minds of people who might just be waking up to it. Once people realize that one kind of oppression is wrong, they might realize that other types are wrong too (or at least that’s the idea). I can’t think of a better page to ask for help than the BtB audience. Being around here a while it seems like most people take a rational approach to the problems we face. I am not a content creator or very witty, or all that good at knowing what will grab people’s attention. So I ask you all to help me, with posting and bringing attention to the staggering wealth gap that has developed in our societies. It’s not something that matters just to the left… between Luigi and the elons bullshit, I think this has a fighting chance.
Please post anything you think will appeal to those not normally thinking about r/ClassConscious (ness) in the same way.

I will never grow tired of hearing of Robert’s infamous cousin
He could be worked into every episode and I’d enjoy the story every time. I know gangsters aren’t good and I try not to romanticize them. But I’m not immune to the appeal of a Robin Hood character.
Happy Holidays everyone!
