Guy flew by flipping me the bird đŚđ¨

u/Lrnzooo 4d ago
This is Canada, Calgary to be exact. Speed limit is 50KM there. If memory serves me right thatâs a turning lane.

u/mrmoreawesome 3d ago
The guy getting pulled over is a hoser, but it is the fourth lane that is must turn right not the one he was being a jackass in.

Changing lanes in an intersection is illegal.

u/justinanimate 4d ago
Even if it wasn't, the right lane is a turn lane (you can see the sign with the traffic lights)

Liar, Liar taught me this.Â

u/bossmcsauce 4d ago
the booklet they give that tells you a bunch of rules of driving to get a drivers license taught me this.

Not in all jurisdictions
My state there's no law against it.
Edit: just fucking Google it you morons
According to current information, most states do not have a specific law explicitly prohibiting changing lanes within an intersection, meaning it's technically not illegal in most places, but drivers should always ensure the maneuver is done safely and without endangering others; states like Arizona and Washington are often cited as examples where changing lanes in an intersection is considered legal if done safely.
I had a fucking police officer directly tell me during driver's education that it's not illegal 15 years ago and looking it up online the information is still the same today.

u/Marus1 3d ago
Why are you being downvoted, while people don't even know what state you live in?
4
u/definite_mayb 3d ago
Confirmation bias. They think it should be illegal so they reject any information that goes against their existing beliefs
-39
u/13Krytical 4d ago
Itâs actually not illegal to change lanes in the intersection.. just something they prefer you donât do, at least in CaliforniaâŚ
9
u/The-Fotus 4d ago
I cannot find anything in the Utah code book saying it's illegal to change lanes in an intersection.
1
u/ReturnRadio 4d ago
I havenât looked but I guarantee in my Utah drivers ed they told me not to change lanes in the intersection
1
u/Equivalent-Koala7991 3d ago
They give you a lot of recommendations that are not necessarily law in the drivers ed book. Like not mashing the gas pedal as soon as the light turns green, or stopping for a total of 3 seconds at a stop sign. or, changing lanes under an intersection
1
u/The-Fotus 4d ago
Drivers ed teaches a lot of things that aren't law and doesn't teach a lot of things that are.
2
u/dastriderman 3d ago
Why is downvoted?
1
u/13Krytical 3d ago
Yeah.. the lack of education is astounding⌠it gets worse than we thought, every day.
1
u/Equivalent-Koala7991 3d ago
people still think its illegal to drive with your console light on bro. This is downvoted because people are idiots.

u/MK2Hell_Burner 4d ago
Exactly, it is a warning, but has nothing to do with illegal. When I wait to turn right at intersection, I saw people change lanes to the most right all the freaking time. So many people here are delusional thinking this is same as running red lights.
Thatâs why I never assume people will stay on their lane, only drive out when thereâs no car. Any car on other lanes might switch lane at any point, doesnât matter its intersection or not.
When accident happens, the one thatâs making right turn didnât wait for clear traffic is always at fault, doesnât matter the other guy was on the right most lane or switched to it.

u/fearceTony 3d ago
Looks like OPP, ontario canada. Switching in middle of intersection is technically not illegal, but is deemed dangerous

This was taken in Calgary Canada and also didn't show what happened prior to taking the video resulting in flipping the bird.
12
u/Fiery_Hand 4d ago
This driver is responsible for his own and other people safety while driving a potentially very deadly machine.
Whatever happened before doesn't matter, if he can't control his own emotions and break many road rules and endanger many people he shouldn't be driving at all.
People sometimes suck on the road, that's no excuse to turn into potential murderer. I believe driving licence is way to easily obtained considering grave consequences of irresponsible driving bring.
8
u/PeePeeePooPoooh 4d ago
I wasn't defending this driver btw. I was just stating that there is likely something else that occurred not captured on video involving this guy that may have resulted in him getting pulled over by police.
6
u/Fiery_Hand 4d ago
Oh I see, misread you I guess. I've often seen similar words trying to justify totally irresponsible road behaviour.

u/Derek420HighBisCis 4d ago
As tempting as it can be, I cannot honk when I pass the asshat when they get their comeuppance (itâs happened twice to me). Itâs a misdemeanor. Ask me how I know.

u/rockstar_janusz 3d ago
Honking is a misdemeanor? How do you know?Â

Did you give him two honks indicating you saw him as he went by and to also watch out for the cop behind him lol

If you look at the traffic lights you'll see the right lane is a turn only lane, so therein lies the traffic violation.
24
u/Alt_Boogeyman 4d ago
Speeding? Yeah. Proceed against traffic control device (going through a turn-only lane)? Yeah. Distracted driving? Probably, as he was not looking ahead at the roadway.
I hope you don't drive, lol
-58
u/dankp3ngu1n69 4d ago
It isn't.
The first amendment of the United States Constitution protects you from Free speech
You could technically tell a cop to go fuck off and they can't arrest you for it. Same thing with the middle finger it's protected
What we don't know is what happens prior to this video, which I'm guessing tells the full story
17
u/CryptoCookiie 4d ago
I think its a mix of speed, failure to indicate lane change and while im not sure as i aint in the us, maybe impropper use of a right turn only lane/running a red in that lane
-27
u/dankp3ngu1n69 4d ago
Yeah that part is going to be hard to figure out because every town is different
Some places that might be a dedicated right lane
All their places it might be a right or a straight Lane. I live where that's the case and it can be very annoying because it ruins your flow when you're going straight and the guy in front of you is turning and slows to 2 mph lol
10
u/CryptoCookiie 4d ago
I did see someone else mention about changing lanes in an intersection but dno if that is what actually happened.
-24
u/dankp3ngu1n69 4d ago
I don't understand the logic on why. It's a big deal to change in the middle of an intersection whether I change there or 20 ft before the intersection or 20 ft after. What's the difference

u/Questions_Remain 4d ago
Letâs say that you live in a state where changing lanes in an intersection isnât specifically illegal. You drive through the green light and start to change lanes halfway through the intersection, and a police officer signals for you to pull over. If you didnât break a law, why are you getting a ticket? Chances are, you have committed what is called an unsafe lane change, which is illegal in all states. It doesnât matter that you are legally permitted to change lanes if you do so in a way that was dangerous to yourself or others. The reality is that even if itâs legal, changing lanes in an intersection isnât safe, particularly when itâs crowded with cars, pedestrians, and more. A lot is happening in an intersection, from cars making left turns across traffic to pedestrians crossing the road. Adding a layer of unpredictability by changing lanes in such a bustling part of the roadway can cause both minor and serious accidents. Many states prohibit lane changes within 100 ft of either side of an intersection since intersections are the most dangerous / deadly traffic encounter.

u/Toasterdosnttoast 4d ago
You a bit slow in the head? This is in Canada. You really shouldnât say something until you know the full picture. Which is funny cause you even mentioned how this doesnât tell the full story but it seems to if you know Canadian law.
1
u/Questions_Remain 4d ago
Ok, You havenât actually read or understand the meaning of first amendment. You should get a pocket version of the constitution and bill of rights. Itâs worth a read. You can get a free copy mailed to you. You have the right to free speech against the government without fear of retribution. Like you can call the Mayor out for a governmental policy they support. Or to criticize and voice against govt and its representatives without being punished for that criticism. You arenât free from consequences of your speech ever. Give a cop the finger is perfectly fine, itâs your right as they are a member of government and you can voice your displeasure at their job. When they pull you over, youâll get tickets for something else that doesnât comply. Giving me the finger in the presence of a cop is a completely different animal and youâre NOT protected as Iâm not a government employee acting in a government capacity. Just as the 1st doesnât allow you to make racial slurs without repercussion. You can give me the finger and if your employer doesnât like your actions of how you represent their position they can fire you. Thereâs 1000âs of â1Aâ folks who have spoke their mind and gotten fired. If I had an employee who gave someone the finger while driving, I would fire them as I wouldnât want that person without self control dealing with my customers. It might be their ârightâ but consequences happen. Also all your rights end where the rights of another begin. Like you can have a party in your back yard, but I have the right to peacefully enjoy my back yard without listening to your music. You have a right to OWN a firearm, but not a right to USE it outside of the established laws. You donât have the right to say anything you want - anywhere you want. The 1A isnât carte blanch, a concept lost on many who canât be bothered to actually read but go by social here-say. All rights have limitations and arenât without consequence for actions.
Oh. And this is in Canada. But go give a cop the finger in South America and youâre getting you ass beat en route jail, while you shout first amendment.

I wouldn't exactly consider that flying by you were doing like 20 mph he was doing maybe?
The middle finger has been proven by the supreme Court of the United States to be protected under first amendment rights
Not sure what the cop was trying to pull him over for here.

u/Serikan 4d ago
This is in Canada; the SCOTUS has no relevence in this case
5
u/LouisIsGo 4d ago
But wait, could that mean there are places other than America?! And with their own roads, laws, and middle-finger-waving idiots? Surely, you jest! (/s obviously, am Canadian)

u/FriendZone_EndZone 4d ago
Going straight in a right turn lane looks like
-8
u/dankp3ngu1n69 4d ago
I wouldn't say that was just a right lane. It looked like it went both.
At least in my town. You can go straight or make a right
7
u/justinanimate 4d ago
No there's a right lane only sign at the traffic lights if you pause. Can only turn right.
-2
u/FriendZone_EndZone 4d ago
I was wrong, there's another lane to right. Street view has that street at 50km.
2
u/justinanimate 4d ago
There's a lane even more to the right than the pickup? Is it so narrow because of the snow?
2
u/FriendZone_EndZone 4d ago
Yes, the right lane actually ends. He would of had to swerve pretty aggressive to not hop the curb. This is Southern Alberta Technology Institute, 16 Ave NW and 12 St NW
5
u/el3ph_nt 4d ago
Lane change in the intersection at least, no signal as well
Too fast for conditions since traffic is a road condition
And with a lane change in the interaction plus having a hand off the wheel while going too fast for conditions and not signaling the lane change, sounds like reckless driving is on the table whether or not it sticks.
-3
u/dankp3ngu1n69 4d ago
It just goes to show you how many traffic laws you're likely breaking at any given point and that that's not a made-up statistic
The guy pretty much did nothing wrong in my eyes, but someone like you is able to pick it apart and find like five different things that he did that are technically illegal.
2
u/el3ph_nt 4d ago
Oh definitely!!
Iâm loose with the lane lines, especially on curves. When someone wanted to pull me over, I had only tapped the shoulder line not even crossing or covering it entirely and it was all the justification he required to flip on the lights.

For context. This is Calgary, Alberta. There is a provincial law about stunting. By definition, anything likely to distract other users of the highway is considered stunting. Flipping off, yelling or otherwise distracting the driver of another vehicle could be considered stunting.
