The black clouds surrounding the 5 elders and Lucci....vs the white clouds around Gear 5 Luffy. Oda is cooking something spicy!!

Yamato also had something similar in their transformation, but it was light colored as well. Perhaps it's a sign of morality?

I think most theories are that black cloud = forced awakening

I kind of doubt their awakenings are forced. My guess is that black is just for non god DFs. So regular zoans and whatever these are will have black clouds but gods like Nika and Yamato’s wolf Okuchi no Makami are white.

I do get what you mean that should be skilled and have awakened their fruits naturally. But now with all the black magic, magic circles and telepathy it does make me think that the gorosei/WG use different methods to awaken.

I mean they might even know more stuff about devil fruits that we don't know yet so I think its possible

I’m gonna be nitpicky here. Let’s not forget that Luffy’s fruit isn’t a god fruit. It’s the Nika fruit, and Nika had the epithet Sun God. The fruit isn’t necessarily godly or anything.

It's the Hito Hito no MI Model Nika. Same as Sengoku having the Hito Hito no MI Model Daibutsu and Onimaru having the Model Onyudo.

Yes, but as the other person and myself have pointed out six antagonists have black flame like clouds and two good characters have white ones. We're wondering if there's a reason for this beyond just "visual distinction of good and bad".

But Monster Point Chopper didn't have clouds at all, and Lucci is just a Leopard Zoan so you can't really pull the Mythical Argument here either

MP Chopper is a weird example. Kid works under bizarre means compared to the ones we know of. Theirs seems to be from effort in honing their powers but Chopper is kind of using Creator Controls to just bypass that to get the results. So that one could just be a weird situation. Which may be how the prison guards work too given they act more like pre time skip MP than any other awaken we've been seeing lately. His is just a weird case, as are they, compared to what we've seen.

And you're right that Lucci is just a leopard, and that just makes it weirder. If he didn't have it we could just handwave it as a Mythical Awakening thing...but he does have it. So it's further weird that way that there are now seven characters we know of with this that all have Zoans but one is a normal animal compared to the six mythicals and two of those also have white clouds as opposed to the black clouds of the others. It's odd but it is a conscious choice by Oda, so we're trying to figure out why these ones have it.

I'm gonna be honest with you, he's been such a nothing presence this arc that I forgot he was even there. Let alone that, yes you are right, he also has it.

I agree it’s a conscious choice. I think it’s to differentiate the good guys and the bad tbh but also maybe you could say mythical “good” gods have it like Nika and Yamato and everyone else has black clouds

Monster Point Chopper is definitely not awakening, not even close. And if it was it wouldn't be a 'natural' awakening hence no clouds, just like the jailers at impel down
