Because we’ve seen Luffy’s journey, we forget how menacing he can look to outsiders.

I know everyone’s evacuated but can you imagine how even Vice Admirals would lose their shit if they saw Luffy hold their superior - Admiral Kizaru and Goresei member being held in each hand by a pirate emperor. Wild…

This is the type of hype moments others used to get. When Whitebeard’s ship is spotted and everyone loses their mind. When Shanks arrives on the battlefield or when Kaido is introduced for the first time.

It makes the threat that is the World Government much less menacing and hurts Oda's narrative. If the Yonkou are as terrifying as you say, why didn't they style on the Gorosei and Admirals like Luffy is doing here? Why didn't Shanks just kill them all when he was at Mariejoie?

Why would they? Not everyone has the same goals! People move in different ways depending on their objectives… just cuz Luffy and crew wanna beat the gorosei, what does that have to do with Big Mom’s journey as a pirate?

Why would they not? Why does Shanks want the next age to happen so badly but is willing to discuss secret matters with the Gorosei? Does he not know they are irredeemably evil? At least Sabo tried something, but Shanks could have easily ended them, assuming they are all Saturn level.

Right, but that involves a major question in the plot: What is Shanks’ connection to the gorosei? How does being a Figarland factor into his character motivations?

As for the other emperors, I feel like we it’s easy to see how cynical they all are/were. They represent the era that WAS hemmed in by the WG and bought into the existing power structure. They were happy to plunder and grow rich without chasing the one piece, bc it was easier than taking on the gorosei. “Evil happens everyday, who am I to think I can change it.” The only exception was Whitebeard who prioritized the safety of his territories/his own deteriorating health.

It’s the will of rebellion that makes Luffy special, his willingness to go against the status quo, not how strong he is.

That's fair. I will buy the fact that Luffy and Blackbeard are the only ones that are destined/willing to turn the world upside down, each in their own way.

No no no. The threat of the World Government is immense because side they are a collective unit. You go against them, you go against the whole world.

Remember they also control the narrative. The represent the general population. Their propaganda means they are the good guys.

So when Whitebeard is attacking Marineford, it’s broadcasted to the entire world that look at this demon attacking the seat of justice, tearing down the very force that protects us, the people. And the world cheers when Whitebeard is dead.

So Yonkou are terrifying and they CAN absolutely style on Admirals. As Shanks did to Akainu when he openly challenged him to continue fighting him yet Akainu backed down. How Shanks scared Green Bull from miles away. How for years World Government doesn’t step into Wano because of the threat of Kaido.

Individually the Yonkou are stronger than most people one on one. It’s just that the Marines have numbers in their ranks. Even far more than Yonkou and their allies.

However if Yonkou crews start teaming up, that’s when World Government loses its edge.

Partially true, but it is not all about numbers on the Marines. Admirals can hold their own against Yonkos , they would lose but they would definitely make Yonkos work for real in order to kill them.

Also marines have Elders + Gods knights. I will assume that Saturn is the weakest of the five elders just because we are seeing him first, and we are still to see how strong he truly is. On top of that, there are also Gods Knights.

Marines are still the strongest force in the world, and its not even close. If I had to bet on Marines vs Straw Hat + Blackbeard crew right now, Id say it would be like 80:20 for the Marines power wise.

this is such a bad take. why would they interfere or get caught up with wg business more than they are. They can literally live like kings and do whatever they want.why challenge an authority which almost governed the world for almost a millennium. also they aren´t watchers like us, from their pov they can´t assess how strong the military power of the marines and the wg is and what kind of weapons they have in stock. it is literally suicide to try and fight them. i mean what if they pulled up on marineford and were met with dozens of seraphims or some other crazy vegapunk weapons or minus world ender. admirals are not the only threat in the wg. also there is no way an emperor can take more than 2 admirals. maybe prime wb but even then I cant see anyone who has a crew to fight three admirals besides shanks and maybe fluffy if yamato had joined

The revolutionary army made a joke out of Mariejoie. Remember how Fujitora and Green bull fought each other? There are so many holes in Mariejoie's defence and I get the feeling Oda will make the God knights a joke too :/
