I'll still give credence to that person who pointed out that he's acting weird in his Nika Form. In the panel where he grabs Kizaru and Venosaur, he looked and acted like Luffy who is scary when serious, then in the next panel we see him smiling like Nika again.

To me it seems like the smile/laughter is just his "neutral" expression in Gear 5 but he's still capable of showing other emotion.

Yes, but this smile is blood-curdling and totally psycho.  I mean, I don't want to be his enemy.  Not the funny one, but the one who will soon do terrible things to these two.  He may be smiling, but his eyes are angry.

Yeah he smiled when taking fights serious all the time. Luffy enjoys fighting even when the stakes are high

Not just the smile but also the eyes. He looks completely demented. He reminds me of the Joker when he gets serious while using G5. That's not regular "you hurt my friends I take this serious now" Luffy and more like "you fucked up I will eat you now" like he has attempted several times now.

I think it’s more like a smile fruit. Compelled to smile like Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker even at the worst of times. If Nika took over I think it’d be more clear cut.

Also I snorted at “Venusaur” 😂spot on!

As someone who dislikes the tone gear 5 has sometimes, I did enjoy his more serious face on the last page.

He also had a frown on his face when Vega got shot by kizaru. The image is upside down so it looks like smile but that's just an optical illusion, I don't remember what that illusion is called

Those people were a bit delusional. We've already seen luffy express other emotions during his fight with kaido. Literally the final couple chapters between his bajrang clash had no scenes of him smiling.

That said, they're also kinda right in that with the power luffy is at rn, he really shouldn't have let vegapunk died (if he did), or rather - he should've been able to prevent a lot of problems from being as big as they are now. But I attribute that more to oda needing to create a narrative and less the fruit's fault.

It seems obvious that the main VP is supposed to die during this arc to trigger a deadman switch and broadcast the truth about the world government to everyone. He still has other bodies around and the cloud consciousness stuff so technically he isn't really dead dead.

I think G5 fanboys would’ve assumed that he could’ve done that at any time. He just hadn’t seen his buddies seriously hurt up until that point in that form.
