Well-being 😌✌ 100th percentile MCAT Gods, bestow upon me your wisdom (01/11 tester)

So, y'all may remember I made a post a while ago about score decay. Well, we're about to get a real life lesson in it lol.

Context: I studied from June to August (my 524 on Fl2 is at the end of August). Didn't touch the content or Anki until December 16th. Since then, I've skimmed the Kaplan books + 86 pg doc again, and finished the qpacks and working on the SBs. I plan to see all of my 5.8k anki cards once (special study session and just steam through em)

Took FL 3 last week, got a 521. Taking FL 4 tomorrow, then FL 5 next week.

Qpack %ages: B/B 1,2 (87%, 79%), Chem (77%), Physics (81%), CARS 1,2 (88%, 87%).

Section bank (about halfway thru): B/B (88%), C/P (73%), P/S (80%)

I'm aiming for a 522+ score, so, those of y'all who scored above that on the real thing, what do you advise in the final stretch? Must-review resources, etc.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” 2 weeks left! excited but nervous. advice?

hey yall! i test 1/10, yesterday i hit my highest score on a FL, 509! My goal is the 510s so i’m sooo close. I’m gonna take 2 more FLs before test day, so hopefully i stay in that range! Now comes the hard part, pulling it all together on test day. I’m a nervous wreck when it comes to standardized testing. I’m someone where the adrenaline hurts more than helps. What are some test taking tips specific to MCAT that you would recommend? I really wanna score my full potential on this thing.

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š Exam reflections

All through university I have hated doing reflections and thought they were so dumb. But after one of my exams I kinda just was rambling on paper about how I did and trying to motivate myself to be better. Now before I write an exam I will write my goals down for this exam and then after the exam and reviewing it I will write how I thought I did then do some motivation talk for myself. This has been absolutely huge for keeping my head up on bad exams and helping me see why I did good on good exams. I really recommend anyone struggling to do this.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Are you allowed to whisper to yourself during the exam?

I've seen people wearing headphones in some of their promotional videos, and was wondering if we are allowed to "mutter" really quietly. During CARS I find myself "whispering" quietly to keep my train of thought going which has worked so far (90% on CARS) and was wondering if that's allowed or we are expected to be completely silent? Just wanted to know so I can practice silently if needed!

Vent 😑😀 Im cooked on Usphere

β€’ Upvotes

I took the unscored AAMC a week back. I knew that is like the easiest exam so im not too thrilled. Got a 507. If i could recreate that on 1/11, i think my secondaries could pull through.

But uworld kickin me hard. im done 41 percent and have 57% accuracy. im doing 60 question blocks for all subjects. Chemistry is actually killing me. i inished p/s and almost biochem. im not too worried about cars. but the c/p is destroyuing me.

i think im cooked. i even woke up early today and i still cant do shit. i feel like im seeing new types of quiestions and mateials every question.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” First FL in 1 week! I'm a little nervous

I know this is only a diagnostic test, and it's to help me determine where I stand and get a feel for the test, but I'm still nervous! Lmao, this is my first time studying for the MCAT, and honestly, everything is okay.

I'm about two weeks into content review(CR), and I realized it's okay not to understand everything I'm learning because Anki will help me retain it, and Uworld will help me apply it and break it down.

However, do y'all have any advice or tips while I take it?

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š 1/10 Tester burnout

I took a FL yesterday (it will be my last one until the exam because I am so tired of taking them). I know that I can do well if I grind these next two weeks but I am so tired of studying and my brain feels numb. I already decided to take a day off on January 1st, but I am finding it hard to find the motivation to keep studying. Any advice?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” What's the best way to learn content so that I can use Qbanks and Practice Exams effectively?

This is what my diagnostic looked like in October but I haven't been able to dedicate a lot of time for studying content. I want to spend a lot of time doing practice problems because that's usually how I learn best but I've been so unmotivated because it feels like I have no foundation to even go off of for the questions themselves. Every time I go through the Kaplan Books I find myself spending lots of time on each chapter, so I realistically get through maybe 1 chapter in 3 hours. This means I'm still on the basics for each subject and practice isn't really progressing. Any tips for people's favorite method of content review would be greatly appreciated!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Does anyone have general tips on solving stoichiometry/dimensional analysis questions?

β€’ Upvotes

Doing UWorld and these questions are consistently kicking my ass. Finding the concentration of an ion when given x mols? Finding the amount of ions in an unknown sample? Grams of a molecule to be produced given whatever??

I understand the basics of dimensional analysis but when I need to apply it, it all goes over my head. Any tips would be appreciated!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Mcat timeline

I am working full time and want to apply in June if possible.

Do I have time to study still and apply? I can put about 3-4 hours in after work and then 6-7 each weekend day.

Is this enough to get a good score? My content knowledge is low.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” How to up my P/S Score? and General Advice

I am testing on 1/10 and hoping to get a 520+. Right now, my AAMC FL have been as follows:

Unscored: 521 (131/130/130/130)

Free Practice (FL 5?): 523 (132/131/130/130)

FL 1: 519 (131/128/131/129)

FL 2: 519 (132/129/130/128)

Obviously, especially on the last two I took, I am missing a lot of easy points from P/S that could really help boost my score. What advice do y'all have for getting those extra points, I feel like I just need to review the content some more but I gave my Kaplan book to a friend and dont know where to start reviewing it more?

Also, does anyone have any other general advice to help me out? Thanks!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” BP Diagnostic Scores Inflated? Deflated? Just right?

I took a half length diagnostic exam from BP a month ago and did better than I was expecting (pre any content review.) I’m just wondering if these scores are inflated or deflated to better gauge where i’m at.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” relationship between blood pressure and water reabsorption?

When I google "how does blood pressure affect water reabsorption", results say that "High blood pressure leads to decreased water reabsorption in the kidneys, meaning more water is excreted as urine."

However, I also know that ADH increases blood pressure by increasing water reabsorption. Can someone clarify what is right for me?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” UW vs Altius Practice Exams?

β€’ Upvotes

Basically the title. I'm cramming on time and won't be able to complete both. I have the 10 practice exam set with altius and Uglobe. I really like UW explanations but people on this subreddit say that Altius science sections are goated since they are experimental heavy and difficult similar to SB. Altius p/s and cars sucks so I'm only asking in reference to CP and BB.

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š 123 to 130 CARS in 6 days

Took Fl 1 last Saturday 12/21 bombed CARS got a 123. I didn’t know wtf I was doing and the passages seemed never ending. Anyways, I took AAMC unscored today 12/27 and got a 130. I credit this to doing aamc CARS qpack everyday since and revising my strategy by reading the passage faster, but still gain understanding and then go to the questions and see if I can find concrete evidence for the question I think is correct. There’s always proof if you look for it.

Oh also take this with a grain of salt because apparently unscored CARS is easier so idk. Personally it seemed pretty similar to me.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” How in depth to read content books?

β€’ Upvotes

As someone who is slightly non trad and plenty of gaps in knowledge (especially organ systems which I never learned - like the most I know is probably what veins and arteries are like some general parts of the brain from my intro psych class), I was wondering how in depth I should be reading things. I definitely plan on reading both Kaplan and UBooks and am thinking to skim/read until I think I understand most things in a chapter, but move on if I get stuck in the details and use the Aidan deck to solidify things. And then write the chapter summaries from the books and the Miledown 90pg doc since writing things helps me actually pay attention when learning new stuff. I’m definitely trying to do what I need to do without overdoing since I need to be efficient with full time work and all

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” I'm losing my sanity !!!

Post image
28 Upvotes

Is it just me or y'all see what I'm saying too?

The question states "At lower temperatures (28 Β°C), the bacteria expressed the protein at lower levels than at higher temperatures (37 Β°C).

When they say "lower levels THAN higher temperatures" it means that at higher temperatures the protein was expressed more !! Meaning that the denaturation might not even occur if the protein is expressed more in higher temperatures. That fucking made me super confused if this is a tricky question. Plz explain this if y'all get it. 😩
