Have I in my life? Yes. Did it stop after I was 10? Also yes. It’s disgusting use a toilet.

u/mcveighsnotdead 18h ago
Can you explain your reasoning? The shower/toilet water all goes to the same place.

Urine is usually sterile when it leaves the body, but as it mixes with surfaces in the shower or combines with soap residue, it can create an environment where bacteria or mold may thrive, especially in showers that aren’t cleaned regularly.
If someone has a urinary tract infection (UTI) or other health condition, their urine might contain bacteria that could contaminate the shower.
Over time, urine can leave behind a lingering odor, especially if it seeps into porous surfaces like grout or is not properly rinsed away. Which is why toilets are made of non-porous materials like porcelain.
Urine contains uric acid and other compounds that could, over time, contribute to buildup or damage in older or poorly maintained plumbing systems. Shower pipes can sometimes be maintained differently than toilets in older places.

Urine is actually not sterile

u/samanthasayys 17h ago
Technically, urine in the bladder is sterile after being filtered through the kidneys. However, it comes in contact with millions of bacteria on its way out of the body.

Props for giving an actual reason for your stance instead of all that moral grandstanding the other girls doing

People just be saying anything on Reddit! As your dirt and skin that you wash off leaves your body, it also hits the surfaces and mixes with soap residue and…. Thats why it’s advised to wash your shower on a regular basis.
1
u/Colonol-Panic 17h ago
Right but dirt and skin don’t contain acid that more easily penetrates grout, stone, sealants, fiberglass, etc and create havens for bacteria to seal itself inside.
Like why do you suppose toilets are made of porcelain?
3
u/Kwaliakwa 17h ago
Skin is acidic and urine can be completely neutral. Diluted urine doesn’t penetrate any more than the products you use for washing your body and hair.
Have you never seen a porcelain toilet eroded from hard water? That is from the water, not the urine.
1
u/Colonol-Panic 17h ago
I could be wrong but I don’t think dead skin is anywhere near as acidic as urine. Moreover, not all the urine is diluted as it inevitably splashes. I’ll give you credit though, soaps and product make the situation even more fraught for urine to ruin a shower.
Yes, hard water erodes porcelain, but hard water will erode any material over time. However, some surfaces are much more reactive to uric acid than hard water.

u/Kwaliakwa 17h ago
Yes, you are wrong.
1
u/Colonol-Panic 17h ago
I am not. I just looked it up at it seems skin usually has a Ph of 4.7-5.7 and urine can range from 4.6-8.

Any acid in urine isn't going to be enough to damage grout. Plus, most people piss in the shower, not on tiles outside of it.
Like, what else would you make a toilet out of that has the same properties as porcelain? Ceramic is another popular choice. They are excellent at the job of getting rid of solids and liquids while being happy submerged in water all day long. They can also hold lots of weight, which makes them durable for overweight people.

u/Colonol-Panic 16h ago
Porcelain is a ceramic, genius.
Also, plenty of showers are made of grouted tiles? I know every shower in my house is. Additionally, the damage I’m speaking of is erosion over time. You pee in a shower every day for 15yrs and that shower will look and smell different from one with no urine over the same period.
You don’t need a lot, couple splashes outside the water zone and now you have a tiny hole for bacteria, then the bacteria creates a film over the hole to protect itself from soap and water, and then you have small and a breeding ground for it to spread when it’s dry again.

u/SpaceShuttle431 2h ago
"is a ceramic" but is not the same... But thank you for being condescending either way.
How much time are you talking about? Not everyone uses the shower to piss every time they use the shower. Not everyone showers every day. Not all countries are the same either, some are better equipped with crap from the shower plug hole.
So let's get some real likelihoods and facts here instead of the worst case scenario, which won't apply to most people.

"can" and "may" The world may end tomorrow, doesn't mean you should spend all your money and not go to work.

Anyone who tells you they have is gross.

We're all gross and some of us are also liars.

And yet, I’ve never peed in the shower and would not live with someone who did.

What a weird thing to take such a strong stance over. It literally affects nothing in your life. You are way more weird than someone who pees in the shower
0
u/Global-Dress7260 16h ago
It’s incredibly disrespectful to do in a shared space. Be unhygienic all you want when it doesn’t affect others.
2
u/al_capone420 15h ago
You think bathrooms don’t have germs all over them? You think humans didn’t evolve over time constantly around the waste of each other being exposed in small amounts? You don’t live in a sterile bubble. Pissing in the shower which then runs right down the drain leaving behind absolutely nothing has no effect on your life or anyone else’s. Having to pee after being showered with warm running water is a natural urge and sending it down the shower drain is very normal.
Again, such a weird thing to get so hung up on to the point that you would refuse to live with someone over it. I promise every shower you have ever used has been peed in.

u/Global-Dress7260 15h ago
This level of laziness and disrespect to the people you live with is beyond my comprehension.
I also don’t understand this insistence all you shower pissers have that everyone also does it.
2
u/al_capone420 15h ago
How is it disrespectful when it literally doesn’t affect anyone? Please break it down for me. Urine is not feces. It’s not full of dangerous bacteria and it’s a liquid so it goes right down the drain.
You have this weird “ick” about it that is so blown out of proportion.

Even my dog knows not to piss in the shower, so she’s cleaner than you.

Yes. Literally everyone does
1
u/Global-Dress7260 17h ago
No, literally everyone does not.
1
u/poop_69420_ 16h ago
Yes they do and anyone who says they don’t is a liar
0
u/Global-Dress7260 16h ago
Weird thing to keep insisting.
Just because you are gross doesn’t mean the entire world is. But I guess this is on par with liars insisting everyone lies and cheaters insisting everyone cheats.
1
u/poop_69420_ 6h ago
No. It’s pissing in the shower. It’s the most normal thing in the world and everyone does it. It’s not gross because it’s literally going down the drain so stop acting like you don’t do it because you have done it at least once
