People who have left SoCal for lower cost of living: where did you move, do you like it, and if you do, what is it that is similar to SoCal that you like about it? We are considering leaving and have read all of the regrets on this subreddits of leaving - just looking for success stories of migrations.

This will be only my second NYE in LA and the first one I was invited to a party that was pretty meh. I was thinking of taking my girlfriend for a romantic private (just her and I) firework viewing on the beach. Is there a good (safe) beach to do this (Santa Monica, Will rogers, etc)? Or a maybe an event we could stop by and then split off of when we’re ready to do our own thing?

I just drove through the Lake Hollywood area for the first time as a tourist, and the traffic blew my mind. Everyone driving through is a tourist, it gets backed up for miles in tiny twisty roads with people wanting to see the Hollywood sign and Griffith Park.
It is also such a beautiful and scenic area to live in. Houses there cost millions. How do the locals justify buying a house at that price and not being able to back out of their own driveway due to all the tourists?

Nothing outrageously priced like Nobu, etc.
We just want really good food. It can be a hole in the wall or a little fancy, as long as it has awesome sushi and serves alcohol (just sake is fine).
I really appreciate your recommendations! The Midwest is a sad, sad place.
Obligatory question mark: ?

i cant think of a city with worse streets than LA.
where is my money going? why are roads so bad? why dont they f’ing fix them?
why cant they build smooth roads? are they having musicians try to build roads here?
i’d like to file a complaint because i lost count of how many times ive hit potholes and how many times ive hit full blown BUMPs in the middle of the road that arent supposed to be bumps. this is absolutely unacceptable.

Hi all, I'm relocating to the L.A. in a couple weeks and I'm looking for a hairstylist who specializes in retro style haircuts for women (ideally 60s/70s style cuts similar to Tobias Bell in London)? I'll be mostly in the valley but willing to travel for someone special. I also did a botched job of trying to tone my hair red, so any amazing colorist suggestions are also welcome!

I'll be in LA only two days...I'll start from here for my road trip. I was thinking of spending a day in Manhattan Beach and one in Santa Monica, what do you think? Are they nice and quiet places?

Hey y’all!
I just got home from Pittsburgh after the holidays and…. I just can’t live without their pizza anymore. I adore it so much and I miss it every single day.
Does anyone know of any pizza places in Los Angeles that have a similar style? I prefer a thicker, doughier crust and a sweeter sauce with a good amount of cheese. Was hoping to get some good recommendations to try and satisfy my craving!!
Thank you in advance :)

I heard it’s about $12 an entry. I love flea markets and I’m wondering if this one is any good. Are the prices reasonable or overpriced? How is the atmosphere?

If you had to choose between Santa Monica or Venice Beach because of time constraints, which would you choose and why? I would love recommendations for seafood or things to do at either of these places.

I am a 55yo British woman visiting LA properly (as opposed to just passing through) for the first time. I live in London so I am used to city life but I appreciate that LA has a unique character. I will also be travelling alone for the first time in I don't know how long. I've been reading EVERY thread I can find about visiting as a first timer and as a solo female.
I will be arriving into LAX mid-afternoon after a 12 hour flight. From Day 2 of my trip, I will be based around Hollywood so I had assumed that I'd spend the first night in the same hotel near Hollywood Boulevard where I am staying for the rest of the trip.
However, the transport options from LAX to Hollywood Boulevard seem to be either taxi/Uber ($$$) or public transport which will be slow and maybe more challenging than I am ready for on day 1 after a long flight.
So I am thinking of catching the FlyAway down to Union Station and finding a hotel there just for the first night. Sightsee around Little Japan, get some dinner then head up to Hollywood the following morning either via the metro or a cheaper taxi/Uber.
Does that sound like a sensible option? I know it's too too easy as a stranger to a city to plan something that looks great on paper but which all the locals know is a dumb plan.
Thanks for your help.

Sydney, Tokyo, London, Chicago, and Maui are a few that come to mind. Above all, it would be none other than San Diego.
Where is one city you would leave Los Angeles for?

What is the scam here lol are they tracking your data and selling it?

This might be a stupid question/request but whatever 😀
I am a bartender by trade. Lot of experience and working at the moment in high end restaurant in OC.
I would love to work in Academy Award event, it’s in my bucket list of things to do.
Anyone can help me with this?

I'm planning a solo trip to the observatory and plan to take the DASH at Vermont/Sunset to the Observatory and back. My fear is that I've heard that the DASH tends to stop running early due to limited drivers (schedule says it's supposed to end at 10PM) and I would be so scared if I was left stranded in griffith park at night. Since it gets darker around 5 now I'm hoping that I'll still be able to see the observatory at night time and not stay too late.
Anyone know when the last DASH bus REALLY comes by?

Taking a girl out and looking for a good first date spot/idea in the Burbank area. I’m not in Burbank too much so not sure what’s best. We’re in our 20s, since it’s a first date I would like to keep it more casual and light. Want to avoid things like a sit down restaurant where we’re waited on. Here are some places I’ve found that seem decent: Granville, Risky Business, Front Yard. Any thoughts on those places or other suggestions? Doesn’t have to be a bar/drinks, I’m open to more of an “activity” date as well. Also open to somewhere like north Hollywood or studio city if there are better places. Thanks everyone!

Hey y'all, does anyone know of any "local" ethical dairy farms? Willing to drive up to 2 hours in any direction... Really want to find somewhere I can see how the cows are treated. Maybe even hang with them and pet them :) Also down for any farmer's markets in LA that might have what I'm looking for! (Don't want any places that also sell meat btw)

Hello!
Are there any restaurant owners here based in LA? I’m an aspiring bookkeeper eager to learn more about how you manage your finances and operations. I’d like to get my foot in the door and was wondering if any restaurant owners might need assistance or know someone who does. I’d be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help.
I come from a financial background and am transitioning out of investments to channel my energy into supporting restaurants. I’m passionate about learning everything I can about the restaurant business, from financial processes to day-to-day operations.
If you’re open to sharing advice or insights—or if there’s an opportunity to assist your business—please feel free to reach out. Thank you! :)

I visited LA a year ago last November and had a blast. There’s an opportunity to visit again mid January or late February. I heard January is a rainy month and that could diminish the activities like hiking. Any suggestions around that? Should I wait til February?

Hi all,
Even the AI bots couldn’t answer this one. Do you maybe know the perfect place to host a birthday party that fits the following criteria:
Between Arts District and Beverly Grove, North of the 10 and south of the Hollywood Hills.
Offers casual counter service, where people go up to counter to order individually.
Bonus points if it has some sort of vegan option beyond fries or a side salad
Can accommodate 20-30 people without a prix fixe menu
Any recommendations?
Leave your recommendations below! Let’s hope humans can beat the bots 😭
