ELI5: what’s a media liaison? Like a mediator for the protestors and the media?

Not really a mediator, more a spokesperson that speaks for the group and has talking-points and answers prepared to be provided. Also know what to comment and no comment on. It’s quite impressive to avoid emotional outbursts and expressing of statements that won’t necessarily align with the views of the movement.
