I don't get why Anthony Davidson is saying this was a formality for Porsche. Toyota had to win the race... which they have been more than capable of for, I don't know, all season long

He really likes to push Toyota as the underdog

Which they haven't been since Porsche left LMP1. I get he drove for them and probably has some grudges for always being the bridesmaid, but his commentary is painfully one-sided

Even in Porsche's last LMP1 season, Toyota had a massively faster car in the first half of the season. The only reason they didn't win Le Mans was because of insanely bad luck and Lapierre driving his car back to the pits too quickly with a puncture that shredded the rear of his car.

Toyota had a massively faster car in the first half of the season.

Worth to remember that the main difference in the first two races of 2017 season was Toyota having a HDF aero package, while Porsche had LDF one. But yeah, Toyota and Porsche traded blows all year long that season like equal competition. TS050 Hybrid in 2017-spec was a major step up comparing to 2016 one. TS050 Hybrid in general was debuted one year earlier than planned initially. That's why 2016 season was an up and down one, Le Mans 2016 was a fine example...

Davidson is always licking Toyota's boots on the commentary. It's pathetic. Even when their drivers make blatant mistakes, he's always got an excuse for them.

Toyota are professional victims. Pathetic team tbh

The only thing pathetic is this sad attempt at coping.

How is that coping? I’m not the team that’s only won Le Mans when they just had nobody else to compete with. Now the rule book is wrote to benefit them specifically and they’re still irrelevant. Doesn’t stop them from claiming they’re victims though.

Yawn, that tired old argument again. Imagine watching WEC and thinking Toyota weren't a good team. You do what you have to do to be able to deal with however Toyota has hurt you.

Toyota hasn’t hurt me. It’s just funny how pathetic their team is because they always play the victim in every situation to the point where even their fans act like total victims. Embarrassing.

LoL ok

Not to mention that a 10 point lead counted for little in a race with points and a half on offer. And Toyota were massively quicker than Porsche in quali.

Agreed. After qualifying, it was more or less a formality for Toyota. Toyota kept messing up and got lucky that the 2 late race safety cars bought them within 10 seconds of the race leaders, so they could use there pace to comfortably take the win. Not unexpected at all.
