What a race, what a season...and what an incredible time to be a fan of the sport!
The #6 crew fully deserved the championship: over the season they showed the kind of speed and consistency that wins titles. And they have done so in what has easily been the most competitive season in the history of the WEC's top class.
That said, the #6 was fairly lucky today; it's hard to believe that none of the drivers' championship contenders scored points.
Toyota, all considered, will probably be more than happy to at least salvage the manufacturers' title.
One has to admit that it has been a fairly incredible stretch for Porsche: starting with Thomas's Preining's DTM Championship at the end of '23, the 2024 Daytona 24h, the Bathurst 12h with Grello, the Formula E driver's championship with Wehrlein, ALL championships in IMSA GTP with the Porsche Penske works effort, GTD Pro with Rexy, LMGT3 with Manthey in WEC and now also the Hypercar drivers' championship with the #6.
It's impossible to overstate how impressive this run of success has been for Porsche. Moreover, the 963 Programme is clearly beginning to reach the heights that were expected from it.
Regardless of personal preferences when it comes to brands/teams, one must really appreciate how incredible the '24 season has been across WEC and IMSA.
Bring on 2025!
