Nakona University is a language course in Assiniboine, a Native American language based in the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in the state of Montana. My mother, Crystal, created her language curriculum to preserve and encourage young students to participate in their cultural heritage. I created these flags after she asked me to make a new design for her classes and presentations for educational use. This is based on the American Indian medicine wheel, which is a symbol many Indian communities use to express the four directions, north, south, east, and west. It also illuminates the circle of life for all beings of this Earth.
