New to Supermotos….

….although I’ve raced dirtbikes and super bikes for awhile now, but I was going to do an endurance mini series on go-kart tracks. The max capacity is 135cc 4T or 65cc 2T air cooled. Honestly, I was thinking a Honda CRF125F for the ease of pit stops and my familiarity with 4T dirtbikes. Would the big wheel’s extra suspension travel help much with a super moto setup? Though I’m totally open to other bike suggestions!

65 2T will always be lighter than a four stroke. Weight is important at this power level but so is consistency…

CRF125f doesn’t have a ton of development for road racing. With used prices coming down I expect we’ll see more on the grids soon.

TTR125 is a 5 speed bike with plenty of aftermarket support and YZ85 suspension upgrades available. E-start too!

My personal choice is the xr100. I swapped my 100 engine into a crf150r chassis for better suspension/brakes. It’s a killer bike on a kart track.

Destroked klx140 could be a ripper as well.

Hey I appreciate the response! I didn’t think about a TTR125.

As for swapping an XR100 engine into a CRF150, that would be purchasing pretty much two bikes and I don’t junk think that my budget will perfectly allow that… but a great idea I’m sure.

As for the CRF125F, I’d be mostly racing Ohvales and Groms I’m sure.

Racing ain’t cheap! I’m at a horsepower disadvantage club racing, but the chassis makes up for the lack of power on all but the longest tracks.

Our group limits the air cooled 4t engines to 2-valve 125cc. The Groms make mid 14hp range and can weigh ~195 pounds. My supermoto swap weighs 175 pounds and makes a little over 10hp.

I can’t think of an Ohvale that would be competitive at the 135cc limit you mention. The 110 4-speed is a great bike but it won’t hang with the bigger bore bikes on the straights.

I would love to build a supermoto crf125f. Too many projects and not enough time.

I’ve been considering a Grom….for sure. But man they take a fair bit of money to get competitive. Golly. Brakes. Bars. Rims and tires. Suspension front and rear…..but maybe. I have one “priced out.”
