Petty Complaint

Can I post a petty complaint? It’s really not anything compared to things we all have experienced/done to ourselves. But it feels unfair.

It feels unfair to wake up with a headache when I haven’t been drinking. lol. I know it’s dumb. I know that I can be dehydrated or eat like crap and that will have consequences too. That drinking isn’t the only thing that causes health issues, but it still feels unfair.

Ok that’s all from my childish attitude.

I feel you. Got sick a few months ago and kept feeling like what is this bullshit, I didn't even do anything to deserve this lol.

The positive spin is that I actually had sick time to call out at work without stressing and throwing up is now a reason to call out and not just Monday morning.

But still.

Not many will agree with me and it may not be applicable to what you've felt, but I did experience what I used to call, phantom hangovers, when I was drinking daily. When I skipped a Thursday for instance, I'd still wake up on Friday mornings feeling like I had drunk the previous night.

Not quite the same as getting the flu, but I do think I have an explanation for you because I had a similar experience...I was a daily drinker and the same thing happened when I skipped a day, but there's nothing phantom about it, that's withdrawal.

We talk about the scary seizure risk withdrawals here more because they are dangerous, but mild withdrawal feels like a hangover. Symptoms typically peak around 24-48 hours so if you last drank on Wed night I'd expect the withdrawals to be there on Friday morning at about 36 hours.

I know it was pretty jarring for me when I learned I had been drinking to the point of physical dependency a lot earlier than I'd thought. But I was there way before I started getting the bad shakes etc. I just didn't know that's what it was.

Makes sense. It's probable that I became physically dependent.
