Ive heard about some “vanguard party” many times as a socialist. However, what does this this actually mean??

I am looking for a list of reliable literature and/or media for socialist/communist movements in the Global South.

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm a huge believer of socialism but also I believe in other ideologies as well like I believe in social liberalism, progressivism and etc so I'm not sure if I be classified as a stone cold socalist idk what do you think?

I've been a socialist for a while but recently started reading more Marx - and I'm sure this question has been asked a lot before - but how do we avoid further concentrating power in a communist/socialist state and ensure democratic decision making when it comes to resource use and distribution? I know currently the economy is extremely undemocratic but my question remains

Wouldn't the workers be alienated from decision-making and/or their dividend of profit?

I get that we won’t have entertainment studios (movies/tv shows/video games) that are trying to increase revenue for the next quarter, and this will inherently be a good thing for high art - and even low brow art - since folks will be able to just do what they’re passionate about.

But what about the big budget, lowest common denominator schlock we see now? I know the MCU isn’t Kurosawa or anything, but it’s nice having simple non-challenging stories too. Would socialism be the death of Grand Theft Auto and Kitchen Nightmares?

I am wondering why the US allows nations such as Spain and Germany and the rest of the EU (ideologically tied to the Global North) to trade with Cuba at all, if they intend to maintain an embargo on Cuba.

I'm fairly new to Socialist thought, but if everyone is contributing what they can... how are those taken care of who are of retirement age or are too disabled to work?

Are there any books that give a comprehensive history of the various oppositions groups and party splits in the ussr? Specifically from the 20s-50s. If there are not any comprehensive histories, then books/articles on specific party splits would be appreciated. Thanks!

What are some resources (books videos podcasts etc) for how alternative justice systems may work

What I mean by justice system is very loose pretty much any where from the court systems to the police

I get that the state will be abolished yada yada, but how would I get something like food and why would someone work for the food?

I have one friend who has vaguely leftist views, but she can be a bit iffy on certain topics. However, she is very open to learning about leftism and I’ve been able to change her mind on some of her more conservative views. She wants to watch docos and youtube videos to help her understand more of why I believe in what I do.

I’m aware the best way would be through reading proper theory and all that, but it’s heavy content and I don’t want to scare her away. What are some easily digestible beginner content that would be helpful for her?

I was planning on starting with broad leftist social commentary before moving into political commentary so she has a base to work upon.

My other friend suggested like Hakim, Second Thought, Yugopnik, however in my opinion, they tend to use lexicon that requires some sort of prior understanding to grasp.

The person who wants to learn this stuff is SUPER new to this type of stuff. I’d say she is only aware of hyper-individualised bigotry and discrimination rather than the collective context.

Many leftists and socialists often condemn mainstream progressives, particularly European social democrats and mainstream American politicians like AOC and Bernie Sanders. They are often deemed insufficiently radical due to their approach on slight reform rather than revolutionary ideology. Many ideologies associated with progressivism are often scrutinized and deemed “radlib”. However, one movement that’s associated with progressives and not scrutinized by Socialists is Environmental movements. Environmental movements and to a lesser extent, animal rights movements have a small but notable amount from anticapitalist socialists, which is not common for most progressive moments in the west. So why do leftists reject mainstream western progressives, but make an exception for environmentalists and animal rights activists?

I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but I just want some recommendations to have more sources to cite and better back up my claims when talking about leftist theory, so anything goes.

I already have a pretty strong grasp of the basics, but I'd just like to have some really solid and credible sources to pull from when discussing any theory.

Hello everyone, I’ve made my decision to study business administration in 2025. I do have some doubts about it, as it actually doesn’t suit my political views. But I’m like gaslighting myself that I could work in a nonprofit organization or something like that, which actually promotes social justice. If I think about it, that someone (me) from a working class family, whose majority of the family were politically active, can study such a capitalistic major. I do have the pressure to go to university since I would be the first one in my family and because my family wants me and them to have a stable and secure future. It could also deepen my knowledge about the capitalistic system with its flaws, which I could use to explain necessary changes for example.

Basically what I’m asking is, what path can I choose after studying business administration, which also goes along with my political views.

I’ve been wondering how a socialist economy deals with large-scale economic crises, like recessions or resource shortages. In capitalism, we often hear about market forces, bailouts, or austerity measures—what’s the equivalent in socialism? How are jobs and resources managed in times of scarcity without leading to chaos or inequity?

And would it be possible to develop non-exploitative alternatives in order to share these luxuries and comforts with everyone?

I've had the thought for a very long time of the left practicing solidarity to win over the bourgeoisie. Which is what every socialist agrees with. But what every socialist does not agree with is what should come after. There is some sectarianism in the leftist community and it seriously hurts the fight towards the propertied class. So why is solidarity carried out for the sake of the greater good, but each party does not go their own way? We could agree to subsidize land for one area for them, and another area for the other them; so on so forth. It would seem to be more beneficial as well since the most amount of people would be happy, at least according to my theory since those who want anarchy can go to their zone while liberal socialists, more state centred socialist, and other thoughts get their own area to do their own thing. Assuming that peace is maintained for the same of preserving the proletariatan power, wouldn't communists and anarchist alike see which system is most stable and gets to a state of anarchy/communism in the best way?

I tried thinking of any fundamental reason, and this is rarely talked about so I couldn't even find anything on it.

Tldr. Why don't all socialist overthrow capitalism and then break into their own ideologies with their own land to experiment with their ideology?

When countries like Saudi Arabia they have state run oil they can get really rich and invest in their country but countries like Venezuela tried that and it did not work out.

Was US or OPECT blocking Venezuela export of oil?

I read that oil sales gone way down in 2008 and that what hurt Venezuela? Why did oil sales gone way down in 2008?

But printing too much money and price fixing hurt Venezuela economy. Some say Venezuela did not diversify its economy.

My understanding of the cause of collapse was an internal turn towards liberalism, which then led to its undemocratic dissolution. People wanted access to the luxury products created under capitalism and the overall system became corroded and inefficient. Personally I think digitizing the economy could’ve done lots, but I’d like to hear other opinions on the matter. Seeing america turn to shit as we just elected a fascist only makes me think about what could’ve been.
