If the Federal Govt didn't own Pt Loma, it would turn into something like Montecito and you would never get to go on it.

Is all of the Point Loma peninsula theirs? Are those trails under the hills on the beach area accessible?

u/XxTH1EFxX 17d ago
Most are accessible during the day, just like Cabrillo monument and the tide pools. They shut the road down at night, donāt remember the time though.

Everyone says they want to leave California. Until they leave California

u/LurkerPatrol 17d ago
I never wanted to leave, was forced to because of hardships and unique circumstances. I mentioned it in another comment here but what I didnāt say was that neither of my parents were earning at the time I left SD

I mean Iād rather live in other places for sure, CO for instance, or PNW. Lived in both those parts and prefer them to here. But here I am because of family and work.
This view does nothing for me in particular. But I know a lot of folks seem to love these pics. Looks like concrete by the water to me.

It really does get into your blood. I moved down here in the mid 90's for school and every time I left it pulled me back. I love it and I hate it (because of the cost). But you learn to adjust. I don't fly anywhere. I have it all here within reasonable driving times.

Right? I raised my kids here, after moving from San Francisco in 97. All of our vacations are driving vacations. Just recently drove all the way to Vancouver BC, camping all the way, and then took the ferry to Vancouver Island with our car. We do a lot of camping vacations in California, the Southwest, and Pacific Northwest. Plenty to keep us entertained on the cheap!

This is a truly amazing photo graph. You have captured a tremendous amount of North County in very high detail.

i can clearly make out encinitas when zoomed in and in the upper left corner I think I see oceanside pier jutting out into the water.
at the bottom left, i see where the 15 and 8 freeways meet. cant make out the murph since its not there, lol.

Boy, do I feel this. After being born and raised in San Diego, Iāve spent over 25 years living back east. For the most part I like it, but San Diego will always be my home.

I only moved away about a month ago so itās still fresh, but I miss San Diego so much it hurts.

u/rainbojedi 16d ago
Same here. A friend of mine had to move away too and when we talk we always end up talking about how much we miss it. I hope you find some cool stuff in your new city. Hopefully settling in will help ease the pain.

San Diego is so small.
I can see my house, my childhood home, two of my universities, my social club, my favorite hiking spot, two of the companies Iāve worked for, and this picture isnāt even taken from that high up.

I work for the County. I am familiar with its size.
San Diego, the city of, is small.

The city of San Diego is relatively big as cities go. You can just see a whole lot from 10000 feet.

Gosh this makes me miss being stationed out there. Coming and going from the bay always made me feel something (even if I wasnāt super excited to be going out, it was nice slowly cruising through and seeing more of SD I donāt normally see), seeing this view makes me so nostalgic lol.

Iām from Baltimore but currently living in San Diego. Now Iām always in shock when I go home and fill up at the gas station so youāve got that going for you.

Some really nice bike rides on silver strand and around mission bay. You can make it from IB to PB without too much issue. After climbing through la Jolla and getting on the PCH you're good until the oceanside pier assuming you're starting after Torrey pines unless you're into some hill climbing. going inland there's ways up to Ramona although those mountain roads and thin and you'll be clogging up car traffic in many cases.

What are your top favorite things about San Diego or California?
2
u/LurkerPatrol 16d ago
The weather, the people, the food, the ability to see any sort of landscape you want within driving distance and in the same state: desert, ocean, mountains, forest. I miss my friends and my childhood there. I miss the beaches. I miss the great driving roads. I miss the car culture.

Itās so good right?!
Edit: I often did things like ride 10 miles at lake Miramar, then meet up to surf near Encinitas, and make it back in time for a cookout.
