Update Post 💚🌿UPDATE🌿Jenny (AVAS labeled extremely feral/fractious!) after a few days in rescue. This is how most cats are labeled at AVAS, (80% plus) kept from public view & blocked from rescue efforts! This is NOT a feral cat. 💚🌿

Jenny was labeled feral and shelter staff claimed she could not be handled. After difficult negotiations she was rescued and this what we see. Judge for yourself. Feral or friendly and adoptable? Ridiculous! Jenny is lovely and needs a family. Please share her. Thank you everyone who pledged to save her! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💚💚💚🌿

Yeah this doesn't look feral at all. I figured these shelters just make that shit up. Thank you so much for giving her a chance. Wishing her a happy and healthy life ahead. Manifesting prayers and good wishes for her. Boosting for Jenny ❤️❤️❤️

So gentle ❤️ she's self moderating her little nibbles. My girls do that too when they're feeling extra affectionate and playful and they always follow up with purrs and the headbutts

Aww, such a sweetheart! Of course they're angry and Hissy, they're kept in metal cages and treated poorly. I'm sure they sense the negative energy there.

Awww what a sweet girl. Humans wouldnt react differently if they were locked up in a cage.

She is such a sweetheart ❤️ Breaks my heart to think about all the cats with so many different personalities that are misunderstood. 🥺

It is heartbreaking to know how many are put down because they are completely mislabeled. Millions! It’s tragic! 💔

This just depresses me further… 😕

Yes but we actually do rescue so many!😁 We had a 90% save rate at one point at Devore.

u/OptimalInflation Nov 23 '24

Oh wow, that’s amazing! ❤️ Yeah, you are right, I should focus on the positives that we are all achieving as a community. 🫂

What’s the save rate right now?

Not sure. We are working on many shelters so it’s hard to say but we aren’t losing as many as last year

We recently fostered two “ferals”.

One is FIV+ and is in his own room until his adopter comes in a few weeks. He lives in my work from home office, and sits next to me all day in a chair. He loves his pets now, but still only in the right way.

The other one…she won’t let me stop petting her. She wants belly rubs, and if I stop and walk away, she sprints and grabs my leg with both paws and just hangs on to me. Very feral! (I think this one is a foster fail…)

I've been able to do this with ferals after a few days of socializing them. It's not too difficult at that age.
