Discussion RD2 or RD1? Spoiler
Which one is the best game to play? I’ve played RD2 three times story throughout. I haven’t played RD1 yet. What’s your thoughts? I read about RD1. I was wondering about the open world experience for RD1 similar to RD2. RD2 was bad ass!

RDR1 is dated, you will immediately see the differences. That being said, I loved the game and John Marston is one of my favorite video game characters of all time. I played the hell out of RDR1 and was very excited for 2 to come out.
Hunting, weapons, collectibles, horse riding, etc. are all much simpler in RDR1. For people who love the complexity of RDR2, this might be a little disappointing. Like older GTA games, areas of the map are closed off until you progress in the story to open them up. I know the RDR2 map is half closed until after the story ends, but it feels a lot different.
The story is great, much different story than RDR2. The missions are largely based on old western movie tropes and, in typical Rockstar fashion, are wildly-exaggerated. I think this makes them fun.
I played RDR1 again after my second and was very impressed at how they blended the story of 1 and 2. Seeing Dutch again at the end, especially after seeing him just after his prime in 2, was actually a little sad and I empathized with him a lot more than I had when I was younger.
All in all I'd say playing the first one is worth it.
