...it was labeled under 'discoverable'.

Like a lot of the other points of interest.

311

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20

Is this real? So it means that it was supposed to be a point of interest but had been cut out?

323

u/CSEnzley PC Mar 11 '20

This does prove that he is/was meant to be discovered like other points of interests and the "frozen animation" kinda confirms our suspicions about where he probably is/was.

Some of these animations tend to trigger when the player is a certain distance from a particular point. Hoping we can still find this "trigger point" (if it wasn't cut of course).

EDIT: Unsure if this has been mentioned before but his ped model is even listed under the same category as the corpses and peds from other points of interests.

u/deepfriedchameleon Mar 11 '20

What is the trigger point is somewhere in Chapter 1. Just like the "prologue" of GTA5?

I just started playing a few weeks ago, and I thought about that the day when I first played! I was like, there's SO much in this snowstorm, there has to be something hidden. But each time I'd look too far, it'd mission fail.

If you had to ask me, it'd be after the home invasion when you're going with Dutch, or during that home raid somewhere around it. But I looked and didn't find anything, but I'm also not anyone to be known for finding things like this.

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

I think it would be in the crevace on the glacier where you go to get marston

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '20

a glacier is frozen, and has been for a very long time right so it really is the only place he could logicaly be unless there are other glaciers

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

Are you able to get up there later in the game?

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '20

I dont think so

1

u/Kveldson May 15 '20

Maybe, I'm not sure but I'll check. I found the first little mining town where the gang attacks the o'driscolls to get the dynamite the other day when I was up and The Grizzlies, so you might be able to get back to the little town or even say dee burn down cabin. I'll have to check that out later when I get on the game.

20

u/WaveRunner7000 Mar 11 '20

Could it be in the ending mission with Marston?

16

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

Just like in GTA V

26

u/darkgreenmeme Mar 11 '20

I would suspect that it's in "Enter, Pursued by a Memory", but I think when I messed with this, the mission would fail if Arthur strays too far from Javier. Since the animation appears to be in a frozen lake, I now strongly suspect it's not up on the glacier that you are permitted access to during just this mission. Perhaps somewhere after the wolf battle and on the way back to Colter?

17

u/darkgreenmeme Mar 12 '20

One addedum for anyone that might be searching on this mission for the Cave Man (on this mission. I've noticed that between objectives on a mission, the restrictions and fail modes may change. For instance, after you pick up Javier in the wagon just before arriving at Horseshoe Overlook in "Eastward Bound", you can drive the wagon quite far before the mission fails, with Hosea, Javier and Charles all whining and complaining (it's pretty funny: https://youtu.be/96kHoiBTlaI?t=989) whereas straying off the path on the way the way before picking up Javier will pretty quickly fail.
What I'm getting to is that I did a lot of searching on the first part of the mission before getting to John, while I did not do much searching after finding John or after fighting the wolves, and there might be a point where you can bail on Javier and John without the mission failing.

6

u/jaylen_browns_beard Mar 12 '20

I wouldn’t go that far. This animation could certainly be the Neanderthal in rhe glacier or even in a recently uncovered mountain

49

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

What does "animation" mean if he doesn't move? Is that just the pose he's in or something?

100

u/JonPumpkinHead Mar 11 '20

Yeah I think the animation is just the pose. The character model is probably saved in a neutral pose like a T or A pose so when he's loaded into the game he "animates" into the "frozen" pose and stays that way. No need to save two character models to the disk when you can have one and an animation.

38

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

Cool. Thanks for the explanation.

19

u/JonPumpkinHead Mar 11 '20

No worries!

13

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20

Cool. Thanks for the answer.

40

u/masedizzle Mar 11 '20

What's the connection to the GTA V prologue?

68

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20 edited Mar 11 '20

an alien under a frozen lake existed in the prologue of gta 5. And maybe a neanderthal under a frozen lake was planned in RDR2 but apparently scrapped at the end.

21

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

I just saw another thread here that shows his full body pose. His feet aren't on the ground! Knees are bent unevenly and his toes are pointing down at an angle. He definitely appears to be swimming or drowning.

6

u/Ihatebeingazombie Mar 12 '20

Are you able to read through the files OP?

If so how much writing are we talking about here because I can’t believe someone hasn’t been through every line and found something decent yet.

Like this you’ve found is honestly the biggest thing I’ve seen in months, other than the wacky unseen character models themselves like the Neanderthal and IKZ, catfish etc but still no actual answers to soooooo many mysteries!

3

u/OnlyMogo Mar 12 '20

They haven’t been through every line, I’m not sure how it works but some files take time to access and to get to the actual code.

u/SuperDuperManBearPig Mar 12 '20 edited Mar 12 '20

As dense and nonsensical as this might sound, ill be asking it anyway (besides, If I don't ask the trivial questions, then who will?). While I normally listen to my conscience, I think on this one I'm going with the part of me that's shouting "DO IT PUSSY!". And my apologies to the intellectuals as well as the people that understand more about this subject than I do, please bare with me. With that being said, let's keep in mind - this is Reddit, and I happen to be THAT GUY. 🎩

Yeah, okay so since there are so many files to look through... Would it be worth the effort for someone to organize and/or create a PDF of some of the game's files on it? I ask because assuming there are others in my position, (RDR2 players that don't have a computer, play on a console and would be willing to look through game-files in their spare time) then that's something to take advantage of; willing people all working together when they feel like it (that otherwise, might not be able to). At the least, having more eyes searching is super beneficial. So would it be a relatively simple thing to do? Or would it be too massive of an undertaking? 🧠💡🤔🤤🤯🤕

If this was somehow possible to do, to me it would make the most sense to:

• Only distribute game files that the person creating the file hasn't already looked through himself. (This one is kinda obvious lol)

• Name each file (if possible) so the person has a general idea of what it is he/she is looking at (i.e) "Dialogue", " Items", "Discoverable" etc.

• Give the searcher goals, tasks and maybe even keywords to search for.

• Or "pop yo titty out his mouth and stop babyin' him!" (Bonus points for the first person that knows the movie to that quote; damn good movie, one of my all-time favorites.) What I mean by that is, maybe skip all the footwork, and make a video or text file with step by step instructions on how one would go about getting the game files and how to search them properly, etc.

u/yare_yare_yaru2 Mar 11 '20

He could have been stuck near where you can find the Arabian or like you said the glacier place

117

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

I saw a video somewhere about in inaccessible cave/tunnel behind a waterfall up in the snowy area. Someone glitched into it and was able to walk quite a ways in. He didn't find the neanderthal, but maybe there's more to it?

35

u/Blackish_Matt Mar 11 '20

Do you have a link? Struggling to find this video

20

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

I'm at work right now, but I'll check out my youtube history when I get home. It might have been Pineapple or TagbackTV if you want to hunt around.

17

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

I don't think this is the video but i'm pretty sure it's where the cave is.

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

That’s rad. The detail in this game is unbelievable.

28

u/WetCardboard69 Mar 11 '20

I’ve glitches into every ravine I could find outside the map, great for a scenic photo but there’s nothing visible down there. If you want to check it out for yourself, go to an edge of the accessible map in the snowy region, get yourself up against the wall, and drink until you pass out, this will make you wake up outside the map. Next, find the ravine you want to get inside of, and get your left side as close to the edge as possible without falling in, then you will need to eat some common bulbrush, and wait until you go into the vomiting animation, which will let you fall into the ravine without taking damage. Hopefully, you have your lantern with you because it can get dark. The ravine this comment in talking about is the most developed of them all, and contains a pathed ground texture and a second layer which you can also glitch into. At this point I don’t know of a way to glitch out so you will have to kill your self to escape (hopefully you brought dynamite or a fire bottle or else you might be in trouble. There are several other ravines further ahead, some interconnected and some more developed than others. They are good for a picture but other than that they contain nothing of interest. Even further into the outskirts if you head west you can find what appears to be an underdeveloped path as well as a glitchy pile of boulders where the path ends. Be careful going to far out though, because the ground gives out and you end up free falling infinitely (you’ll need to save beforehand). You can also find animals out there that don’t move ever, and a lake you can walk into. If you can find anything cool out there that I couldn’t, you should definitely post it, because I’d love to see it. I’m on console so if anyone on PC wants to no-clip around the outskirts they may be able to find more secrets underground or inside of the mountains, maybe even the Neanderthal

2

u/PabloMatzkello Mar 17 '20

Well that area, starting from behind these boulders with remains of avalanche, that's the point where pinkertons lost dutch gang while they were chasing them from blackwater heist. There was once ment to be prologue i believe starting with blackwater heist, referencing gtaV, then outrunning pinkertons up hills, where they lost them after avalanche. That freezed fella would be another great reference to gtaV prologue on top of it

318

u/papaswaggo Mar 11 '20

This feels like the last gold nugget in a mine that is the Rdr2 easter eggs. We're so close I can taste it lmao

114

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

We just need that damn princess

87

u/RichtofenFanBoy Mar 11 '20

Have you seen Gavin?

64

u/Waltermelon Mar 11 '20

He never showed up for the voice over recording

20

u/mathmat Mar 11 '20

Are there any castles/castle like things in the game? “Your princess is in another castle” and all that

5

u/naked_n_infamous Mar 11 '20

Wait whats the princess line about besides Mario?

6

u/mathmat Mar 11 '20

Nah that's just it. Popped into my head when thinking about a hard to find princess.

6

u/naked_n_infamous Mar 11 '20

Oh ha. I get it now. My bad y'all. Thats on me.

8

u/NateQ1916 Mar 11 '20

My only guess might have been the chained outhouse. If it’s not that than I have no idea

6

u/sadadidas Mar 11 '20

with openIV we're sure to find something out soon.

in the GTAF 'RDR2 Beta Hunt' thread someone's already found an interior for the second floor of the Van Horn Fence, as well as another building model that was originally supposed to be the fence. I think we'll find more out before too long

5

u/RedDeadLumbago Mar 12 '20

The 3rd meteorite is still to be found.

72

u/yare_yare_yaru2 Mar 11 '20

Did we finally find him?

47

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20

not really. At least for now

5

u/Ezzypezra Feb 24 '22

What about now

5

u/GuyWhoRocks95 Jun 29 '22

What about today

3

u/Evan__or__somthing Aug 02 '22

What about tomorrow?

3

u/HiPitchEricsFishMits Feb 06 '23

What about 2 years later?

2

u/CrankyVixen Oct 20 '23

Are we there yet?

2

u/SmellMyMangoes Jul 25 '24

what about now?

40

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

I think he’s most likely in the mission where you look for John with Javier sewing as you go outside the map boundaries

23

u/Te_Quiero_Puta Mar 11 '20

I tried to look around during the first mission but if I lost track of Javier, even a little, it would "Mission Failed" me. Haven't had a chance to explore it more yet.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

Well you fail the mission almost immediately in GTA 5 as well but that mission is my best bet if he hasn’t been found already

36

u/OperTator Mar 11 '20

For some reason I feel like he’s not half submerged like this recreation suggests, I feel like he’s fully submerged and you’ll see him by looking through the side of something, like he’s frozen within a giant slab of ice.

6

u/PabloMatzkello Mar 17 '20

Yes, definitely my thoughts. I believe he was ment to be there frozen in one of the glaciers in the ravines, in the john's mission. Rather then be frozen in one of the glaciers of the open world. It would make perfect reference to GTAV prologue alien easter. You would probably see him just for sec while killing yourself from deepfall to dark ravine. But for some reasons it was cut.

26

u/YourVeryOwnCat PS4 Mar 11 '20

What is the animation? Is he just still?

49

u/yare_yare_yaru2 Mar 11 '20

And we could probably only find him as John

23

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20

why only as john?

118

u/Orto_Dogge Mar 11 '20

He wasn't frozen then, because sun was shining brighter when Arthur was alive.

-3

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 11 '20

This makes no sense.

19

u/Joshieboy_Clark Mar 12 '20

It’s a joke mate

4

u/Lacedaemon1313 Story Mode Mar 12 '20

oh....

11

u/Helios-88 Mar 11 '20

Maybe during the beginning mission or prolong?

14

u/seberplanet Mar 11 '20

It has to be on the glacier wher eyou find John! At least I'd like to think that haha

11

u/Pir-o Mar 11 '20

I've heard there are more arrow heads in the code but no one discovered more than one i the game. Maybe those are the needed triggers for that interaction?

9

u/Skraelos Mar 12 '20

I've always been suspicious about the bear part in the Pearson's mission. I mean, the entirety of that event somehow feels a bit odd. I don't see why would they make it a dialogue option for Arthur to ask about going for the bear if they simply wanted to add flavor - they might've just added it as is, without input from the player. And this bear is pretty much on the frozen lake, too.

I don't have the tools or the skills required to properly check around the game files, but I think it might be worth a shot to specifically target that mission to try and hunt some new info.

15

u/XxSkyGuyxX Mar 11 '20

I want to find him and IKZ so badly.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

IKZ seems to be a cutscene only model, so look for background characters in cutscenes

11

u/Radirondacks Mar 11 '20

Yes but no one knows how to actually find her, in-game.

32

Just giving credit to the founders of this, they found it live on my discord the other day. rollschuh2282 & pariah87

9

u/NotDarty51Dead Red Dead Online Mar 11 '20

They found it?

17

u/5afe4w0rk Mar 11 '20

11

u/JCBandicoot Mar 11 '20

The animation specifically? Not hard to extrapolate that

6

u/DuPz Mar 11 '20

Hey Bandicoot, yeah they figured it out on livestream and then posted it on GTAForums straight afterward. From a modder perspective yeah I know it's not too hard to work out, especially if you're familiar with the script. But I noticed this pop up just after it was posted on the forum is all. 🍻

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

Wasnt that hard but we had no idea the line of script we had was even an animation.

We also didnt know what the actually animation was called either.

Another animation found with the same line of code didnt have an animation or dictionary either but still had the line of code.

2

u/JCBandicoot Mar 12 '20

Sorry I meant in response to the fella acting smart about the discovery of the Neanderthal, had no idea animation or any other code existed for him so great find dude!

1

u/DuPz Mar 12 '20

Hopefully there's still more to find out about him!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

https://youtu.be/e8QH9VFb6oM

It was "live" because I was streaming to about 4 people lol

It was a pretty funny moment in the discord.

3

u/OnlyMogo Mar 11 '20

What discord is it?

6

u/DuPz Mar 11 '20

1

u/OnlyMogo Mar 12 '20

Thank you!

18

u/yare_yare_yaru2 Mar 11 '20

Well not only as John but most likely. Like as Arther he would be frozen in ice and we couldn’t see him but years later as John maybe some ice would melt around him he’d wake up and you’d find home like a minute or two after he woke up

21

u/leargonaut Mar 11 '20

I was thinking that as John it’s guaranteed we can’t find him, like all the ice melted and the body decayed.

4

u/lildoggi76 Mar 12 '20

I wonder if it was a part of the expanded ambarino that was cut during development

3

u/jaedgy Mar 11 '20

If the animation is him just striking a pose, I would guess that he is meant to spawn below a section of see-through ice. Where that ice could be is another question.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

I imagine, like in GTA, hes prolly under an iced over lake

3

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

https://youtu.be/e8QH9VFb6oM

That's a video of the very moment we discovered it.

We have been finding lots of stuff in the files. We believe it's possible that this was cut from the lake in the cut intro lake area or could be in the game still.

5

u/yare_yare_yaru2 Mar 11 '20

Yea. After the run I’m on I could restart and check

2

u/TheCashew01 Mar 11 '20

Bottom homie looking like the Arch-Vile

2

u/Atxd1v3 Mar 11 '20

So can similar methods be used to find IKZ animations?

3

u/sugarwave32 Mar 12 '20

Im pretty sure you can mod the game to indicate when you are within a certain distance of that model or animation. Can anyone do this?

3

u/GrigJr Mar 11 '20

So he evolved ? :D

u/MrGamerMooseBTW PS4 Mar 11 '20 edited Mar 12 '20

Prologue or bury the hatchet under the bridge shortly after the cash depot
