Theory Theory: In the Clemens Point camp, there are people who come extremely close to the camp with their canoes, and Jack really likes to go near the water. What if Braithwaites secretly kidnapped Jack at night? That can explain how exactly the Braithwaites got so close to camp and took Jack.

Clemens Point is the nicest camp in the game. You can’t change my mind.

u/JustAnOctopus Jun 04 '19
I liked Horseshoe Overlook the most simply because it felt more westerny to me, and swamps and fog give the creeps.

u/Chewbacca_Holmes Jun 04 '19
My second favorite. But Clemens point feels like such a nice spot, and it’s all downhill from there.

u/Coltshooter1911 Jun 04 '19
Only because you can have Caine when you camp lol

u/Chewbacca_Holmes Jun 04 '19
Yeah... before that rat bastard Micah does the most assholish thing he does in the whole game.

Jun 04 '19
remind me please, haven’t played story since january

u/BigBoiBobby69 Jun 04 '19
He kills the dog , also tells arthur about killing him when questioning micah if he seen caine lately
47
u/redeye_mindtricks Jun 04 '19
There’s a dog at camp??? I’ve played through the story twice and never saw him!
53
u/ChuckPierce Jun 04 '19
I think there was a glitch in the early versions that made the dog and Sadie not show up in camp, I didn’t see the dog the entire first time either lol
35
u/KahnaneX Jun 04 '19
Yeah, for me, I swear Sadie just came out of nowhere dressed like Billy the Kid in chapter 3. The last time I saw her was when she’s found on the cabin in the prologue. I thought it was just more cut content, but it turns out she’s actually in the camp the first two chapters after watching camp videos on ytube

That’s weird, Sadie’s always been there but I’ve never seen the dog lol I’m gonna have to play it again now

u/bluejburgers Jun 09 '19
I’ve just recently rebeaten it, played it three times now.
Never seen a dog
19
u/corrosive87 Jun 04 '19
I’m on my third play through. I’ve found so much new stuff each time. My guess is you have a lot more to see, if you haven’t even seen Caine! Good excuse to go restart, eh?
15
u/redeye_mindtricks Jun 04 '19
Yeah I found a lot more stuff on my second playthrough for sure, I’m gonna have to do a third one now. Just weird that I’ve seen most of the stuff from this sub and have like 95% completion on my second playthrough but the thing blowing my mind is a dog at camp lol
14
u/Communism_of_Dave Jun 04 '19
Wait what? Micah kills the dog? I always just assumed it ran away sometime around when the Pinkertons showed up.
15
u/Skinwiggle Jun 04 '19
No! He doesn’t kill him. He uhh... he just ran away! 😭
17
u/Ragnerotic Jun 04 '19
It was a huge relief when I found out Micah killed him; I though Pearson cooked him because I hadn’t been bringing in any food!

When tf does this happen??? I never noticed this on any of my play throughs and I thought I did the most mind numbingly extensive play throughs ever, I worked so hard to experience everything I possibly could, idk how I could have ever missed that.

Chapter 6.
If this is still your first playthrough, I recommend getting off this sub as it's a spoilerfest (even moreso now that the game has been out for 6 months so people think everyone should have beat it by now).
We'll be here when you come back!

u/Nickifoxy4 Jun 22 '19
You're right. I should just come back later. I just started chapter6; my first play through and have been spoiled many times already ☹. Like right now, I had no idea what happened to Caine ☹. I'll be back!!

u/LadyGenevieve19 Jul 02 '19
I missed that conversation, but I DO remember Jack going around camp asking people if they'd seen the dog. I remember him being at Shady Belle, but I'm trying to actively remember the last time I actually DID see Caine (I havent played in... 4 months at least)...

u/crazydressagelady Jun 04 '19
That’s why I loved Shady Belle. It’s proximity to the south forest, swamps and night folk adds a layer of horror to the game.
32
u/Ravenae Jun 04 '19
Compared to games like GTA, RDR2 feels so much more horrifying to me. You’re out in the middle of nowhere, an animal can just show up and attack you out of nowhere, people hide in the trees and bushes, there’re weird markings and hidden items throughout the entire map, etc. It’s like a mild psychological horror at times just because of the atmosphere.
17
u/13pts35sec Jun 04 '19
yeah but luckily you play as the Terminator with Neo Like abilities lol. Big ass grizzly or cougars scare me though hate when you get jumped at night by a cougar. Also the night people are fucking creepy when you have 4 of them running out of the darkness
10
u/TheCandelabra PS4 Jun 04 '19
Yeah, RDR2 is more "Southern Gothic Horror with Western elements" than it is "Western".
4
u/edd6pi PS4 Jun 04 '19
I’ve never thought about it like that but yeah, I don’t remember ever feeling afraid in GTA, whereas I do sometimes get scared in RDR2. Specially when the Nite Folks are involved.

One time I was riding in the area of horseshoe overlook, when a fog bank rolled in right as I was in the section of burned forest. I could not see more than a foot ahead of me and it was actually like terrifying. I remember being actually disoriented, it was so cool. I love Clemens but that fog at horseshoe was awesome.
2
u/bjohnno90 Jul 25 '19
Sometimes in the fog you can see silhouettes dart behind the trees, I’ve tried countless times to capture a pick but there too quick! Not many people have mentioned it though so I don’t think it’s a well known thing yet.

u/ironwolf425 Xbox One Jun 04 '19
I prefer horseshoe overlook cause the area was just beautiful, beaver hollow is a good second
7
u/tunnelsnakesam Jun 06 '19
Unpopular opinion: shady belle is the nicest one. Bring on the downvotes my body is ready
7
u/Chewbacca_Holmes Jun 06 '19
Eh, I can see where you might feel like that, but it reminded me a bit too much of my first off-campus apartment during my college years.

I agree completely, it comes with the most beautiful sunsets. Scarlet Meadows is a hill I'd love to die on

My favorite camp was shady belle. I loved how Dutch, arthur, john and hosea all didn’t have to sleep in tents

Once Charles just opened fire on a guy paddling by the camp and killed him stone dead.
No heads up or anything.
Now I like that brooding hunk as much as the rest of us, but c'mon man, the fella was only out for a wee bout of fishing.
87
u/HighSpeed556 Jun 04 '19
Maybe Charles recognized him as a Braithwait.
59
u/Dave_Van_Wonk Jun 04 '19
No it was just an African-American NPC rowing a canoe.
I think it was more that he must have paddled too close to camp and triggered the AI making Charles see him as an enemy.
It was close enough for me to walk in and nick the boat and pick up the body, but it was just labelled as 'stranger' and he only had some chewing tobacco and some cents on him.

The gang does shoot at NPCs who get too close to camp boundaries; I've had enemies follow me into camp and get shot dead, so it may have been an AI reaction
43
u/theinkwell42 Jun 04 '19
whenever I accidentally bring enemies back the game just says fuck you and goes dark
34
Jun 04 '19
Seems odd, isn’t Charles like the moral cornerstone of the gang? Seems like in all the missions you do with him he’s always helping people out like that one German (Swedish?) family
8
u/Roarbackgirl493 Jun 04 '19
German family :) yeah Charles always seems like he does the right thing so this is surprising to me as well

9
u/Skinwiggle Jun 04 '19
Maybe they’re as a bug? Like a random npc somehow got aggroed and Charles ai saw him as an enemy?

Really?? Never seen that either. Have to watch out for that during my next play-through!

u/Mikkelhess Jun 04 '19
Pretty sure they just walked in while the gang members were away. Sean, Arthur, Micah and Bill was in Rhodes, and who knows what the others were doing, but they didn’t say that they witnessed the event so they probably did something else too. Also I feel like Abigail would mention it, if she saw them in boats. Lastly, it’s probably more intelligent to escape on horseback through the trees, instead of on open water in a boat, considering you’re escaping from a gang with a ton of weapons
21
u/CardinalCreepia Jun 04 '19 edited Jun 04 '19
But you said it yourself that the gang were away. They still would have silently rowed to shore while most of them were off doing other things.

u/cocaplant Jun 04 '19
I played undead nightmare yesterday and apparently the braithwaite was alreeds known there.
This girl mentioned that Mister Braithwaite was walking amongst the undead in Blackwater.
2
u/edd6pi PS4 Jun 04 '19
I don’t think that he was anyone we met in the game but yeah, he was probably a part of the family.
17
u/Blackfeathr PC Jun 04 '19
Dunno bout all that, but I do enjoy using canoeing passersby as fodder for a recent glitch I stumbled across, where panning the camera really fast to look at the boat causes the boat to spontaneously sink and it's occupant to swim away. It's fascinating

I did not even think this was a mystery. Kids like to run off and play. It is not hard to kidnap one especially back then before the over protective parent.

u/itsfromtheBITE Jun 07 '19
New playthrough, just got to Clemen's Point. Went out and about, and was greeted by Jack upon return. When Arthur replied, all he said "Don't get too close to the water now, Jack" 🤔

u/GoldenGekko Jun 04 '19
After reading the comments. And looking at the islands in the lake and how open the shore is... I feel it's more likely they spied on the gang from the safest vantage point. The lake. And planned their route and Jack's movements accordingly.
But as another comment mentioned, it would be much more smart of them to do the kidnapping on horse back when the time came. Mainly for the commotion jack could make and well, horses are faster than boats when attempting to evade bullets.
And I'll throw my hat is with overlook being best camp. Much more remote, quaint, and love the view.

u/LyfAsCarbon Jun 10 '19
Jacks also a dumbass kid prolly easy to take a million other ways too. Personally id like to use a white chuck wagon full of candy but instead of candy it just has molestation.

so shoot anyone on sight that gets close to camp? got it.
1
u/rockstar_fan PS4 Jun 09 '19
You can’t shoot them, if you antagonize them 3 times, they’ll start shooting you, but the gang members will take them out and the screen will black out

I think that during the cutscene, Hosea mentions that they saw some “Braithwaite boys creepin’ around” or something to that effect, so this could hold up.

That makes a ton of sense. The Braithwaite property is a very short boat ride just down the coast, and your gang seems solid at watching the foot paths in.
