It's becoming clearer and clearer that once they get the badge they get told to "follow their gut instinct" just by how fast they will throw their training and common sense etc out the window.

On the contrary, they're trained to think of the general civilian population as the enemy. It's called Warrior Training, where they teach police that killing is just as good as sex.
