I'm still running a 960m in a laptop that's so busted I can't even close the lid anymore. Can it run everything? Absolutely fucking not. But whatever. I can still play new indie games and older games I enjoy. I'll upgrade when it finally dies.
and if you do get into modded and shaders, be prepared to constantly be at 100% gpu usage at bigger packs. 3070 here, can barely run at 100fps sometimes below 80, 100% usage constantly
Cs2 i have a friend like this. Has a 4080S but plays on Counter Strike and Wow when a 4060 can run those games at really high frames. His monitor only goes to 144hz.
I got downvoted here once for saying I'm happy with my 2060 super because I only play old games or indie games like Dredge that don't need very much to play.
Could I upgrade? Oh 100% but I don't need Stardew Valley to have 500 frames a second.
I went 2k resolution last year and play some newer/newish games. Modded F4 and Skyrim also. My 1070 sweats with those and new games so I finally broke and got a 4060, I know the criticism with that card but it's double the performance of my 1070. I don't have to have 2 million frames to enjoy and I'd like to dip my hand in some RT. Plus i got other priorities, but I'm at least moved out lol.

Either OP makes enough money to contribute to the household and a new GPU is just another unjustified treat for themselves or OP has a mom who enables their behavior for whatever reason that may be.
There's people that get new cars every year and they hardly drive. If you can afford it, sure, go crazy. But if it is actually preventing someone from moving out of their parent's house, they are making some bad financial decisions. Unless of course mom and dad want you there forever.
or depending on what you need (Nvidia has the cuda libraries which others don't have) AMD or Intel might get you the same or better performance for the same amount of dollars.
I know a fuss is made about how little vram Nvidia chips have
They're gonna be good, for sure better than a 4080S but, they're just lacking like the 4000 series. Unless this gen has some crazy optimizations it's gonna be a repeat of this gen, overpriced, low Vram. AMD next gen cards seemingly have a big jump in RT so I may go team red if they deliver.
I need to upgrade mine because the card I got was for video enhancing and it didn't work the way I thought so I've just been using it as a game one but it doesn't have enough VRam but I am looking for the Intel option
With the power draw of that card, I think it could be wise if you trade it for something else. Those extra 100w will cost you between 100 to 200$ after 10 years.
Getting a 4060 but I plan to flip it since Nvidia cards resell well and getting a 5070 or something next year. But before that I've had my 1070 since launch.
Just give it up. Stop sharing your opinion. I obviously can afford all that stuff if i can buy myself a 3090. My salary alllows much more. This discussion is not about what you can afford. And now you are even bashing those people that have less and that even on Christmas. Shame on you, sir.
It's just kind of pointless. And usually only for marginal gains. At least every other gen upgrades you can really feel the updates but every gen is just gonna meh.

Why are you guys acting like you need a new graphic cards every year? How privileged are some of you?
I buy a 3090 and for the next 10 years, i don't want to think about graphic cards anymore.
I also had my 1070 for 8 years and had no problems.
