Why are you guys acting like you need a new graphic cards every year? How privileged are some of you?

I buy a 3090 and for the next 10 years, i don't want to think about graphic cards anymore.

I also had my 1070 for 8 years and had no problems.

I just upgraded from a GTX 960 to a RX 6650XT and I'm done for at least 8 years lol

I feel ya! This year I upgraded my trusty ole' GT 730 to an RTX 4070 Super and am hoping it will last me at LEAST 10 years! lol

u/poweredbyford87 2d ago

Holy shit, that was a jump lol

3

u/GrassyDaytime 2d ago

Yeah, it's been a DELIGHT! Graphics have came such a long way it's incredible!

I'm still running a 960m in a laptop that's so busted I can't even close the lid anymore. Can it run everything? Absolutely fucking not. But whatever. I can still play new indie games and older games I enjoy. I'll upgrade when it finally dies.

Happy for you mate

11

u/howtokillanhour 2d ago

What do you think the newest game this guy plays even is?

13

u/Firefly279 2d ago

Minecraft

u/bt123456789 I9-13900KF RTX 4070 2d ago

Minecraft is cpu intensive. GPU doesn't matter as much until you get into modded and shader scene.

2

u/ChrisRoadd 1d ago

and if you do get into modded and shaders, be prepared to constantly be at 100% gpu usage at bigger packs. 3070 here, can barely run at 100fps sometimes below 80, 100% usage constantly

Yeah I'm in ATM10 with some friends and run about 144 with shaders on an i9 and 4070.

It's on neoforge so it's a bit smoother than regular forge, but comparatively in atm9 I got like 40 because of minecolonies

Minecolonies is one of the most demanding mods on the scene, as bad as if not worse than create.

Cs2 i have a friend like this. Has a 4080S but plays on Counter Strike and Wow when a 4060 can run those games at really high frames. His monitor only goes to 144hz.

2

u/DukeofVermont 2d ago

I got downvoted here once for saying I'm happy with my 2060 super because I only play old games or indie games like Dredge that don't need very much to play.

Could I upgrade? Oh 100% but I don't need Stardew Valley to have 500 frames a second.

u/Nathan_hale53 Ryzen 5600 GTX 1070 1d ago

I went 2k resolution last year and play some newer/newish games. Modded F4 and Skyrim also. My 1070 sweats with those and new games so I finally broke and got a 4060, I know the criticism with that card but it's double the performance of my 1070. I don't have to have 2 million frames to enjoy and I'd like to dip my hand in some RT. Plus i got other priorities, but I'm at least moved out lol.

Because don't ask questions, just consume product, and then get excited for next product.

Tom's Hardware: "Just Buy It"

Either OP makes enough money to contribute to the household and a new GPU is just another unjustified treat for themselves or OP has a mom who enables their behavior for whatever reason that may be.

In other words, super privileged.

3

u/International_Sky916 2d ago

Im gonna retire my gtx 690 and change it for a rx 6700 xt

5

u/Kepler-Flakes 2d ago

I mean I buy a new GPU every 4-6 years but I also live on my own.

It's all about what you can afford.

4

u/AMDSuperBeast86 Ryzen 9 3900x 7900xtx 128gb 2d ago

I'm on a 5 year cycle but I also edit videos. If it was just for gaming I 100% would go 8 - 10 year cycles

3

u/Firefly279 2d ago

And thats totally fine dude

1

u/curt725 AMD3800X: Zoctac 2070S 2d ago

Same 4-5 year cycle. I also play games in my basement, but we own our house and kid is out and taking care of herself.

2

u/Badbullet 2d ago

There's people that get new cars every year and they hardly drive. If you can afford it, sure, go crazy. But if it is actually preventing someone from moving out of their parent's house, they are making some bad financial decisions. Unless of course mom and dad want you there forever.

3

u/DukeofVermont 2d ago

And a lot of people have very little in savings and no retirement fund. What you can afford vs what you should afford are not always the same things.

1

u/ExcitedDelirium4U 1d ago

I agree with this statement lol. When I tell some people I have 3 different accounts for retirement and other investments, they look at me crazy.

2

u/Steamed_Memes24 2d ago

I have a 4k monitor so I will probably need to upgrade. My 3080 can only do so much with it sadly.

6

u/Impressive_Change593 2d ago

that's unfortunate but also understandable. OPs choices on the other hand...

7

u/Steamed_Memes24 2d ago

Hoping the 5080 will be good enough. Heard mixed reviews on the leaks so far ):.

3

u/Impressive_Change593 2d ago

or depending on what you need (Nvidia has the cuda libraries which others don't have) AMD or Intel might get you the same or better performance for the same amount of dollars.

I know a fuss is made about how little vram Nvidia chips have

1

u/Nathan_hale53 Ryzen 5600 GTX 1070 2d ago

They're gonna be good, for sure better than a 4080S but, they're just lacking like the 4000 series. Unless this gen has some crazy optimizations it's gonna be a repeat of this gen, overpriced, low Vram. AMD next gen cards seemingly have a big jump in RT so I may go team red if they deliver.

1

u/Traiklin Traiklin 2d ago

I need to upgrade mine because the card I got was for video enhancing and it didn't work the way I thought so I've just been using it as a game one but it doesn't have enough VRam but I am looking for the Intel option

1

u/Environmental_You_36 Ryzen 5 3600 | RX 590 Fatboy | 16GB 2d ago

With the power draw of that card, I think it could be wise if you trade it for something else. Those extra 100w will cost you between 100 to 200$ after 10 years.

1

u/Un111KnoWn 2d ago

depends on how demanding the games people play. 4090 is still overkill for a few years

1

u/ComfortableAd7397 2d ago

This is the PC masterrace connoisseur.

I'm one of yours, Rx580 until 2022. Rtx 3070 until...2028? 2032? Don't matter using invented frames to play, the point is playing the new COD yearly.

1

u/p5-f20w18x 2d ago

Had a 1070 from release until like a few months after the 7900xt released (temporarily had a 3070 in between)

Hate spending money on this stuff, just want computer on & game work

1

u/-SMartino 1d ago

my next upgrade is prolly a 6000 series considering my cycles.

I went from a 980ti to a 3060ti. upgrading every six or so years and going midrange is good for the soul

1

u/Nathan_hale53 Ryzen 5600 GTX 1070 2d ago

Getting a 4060 but I plan to flip it since Nvidia cards resell well and getting a 5070 or something next year. But before that I've had my 1070 since launch.

1

u/JubeeGankin 1d ago

Where in the post does it say he already got a new graphics card this year?

0

u/faplord2020 1d ago

That is not how it works. You buy the best in order to play new games on high quality. The 3090 stops doing that way before 10 years.

Quit being an ass hat and let people enjoy what they want, how about that?

6

u/PhewLemon 2d ago

Nooo you can't criticise my buying habits that I willingly post about online!

9

u/Firefly279 2d ago

Seems like someone is being spoiled too much. See anyone agreeing with you?

-9

u/RangerFluid3409 MSI Suprim X 4090 / Intel 13900k / DDR5 32gb @ 6400mhz 2d ago

Spoiled? I earned my rig kiddo, I don't need cry babies to agree with me lol, you all whine because you can't afford it

8

u/Firefly279 2d ago edited 2d ago

Just give it up. Stop sharing your opinion. I obviously can afford all that stuff if i can buy myself a 3090. My salary alllows much more. This discussion is not about what you can afford. And now you are even bashing those people that have less and that even on Christmas. Shame on you, sir.

-8

u/RangerFluid3409 MSI Suprim X 4090 / Intel 13900k / DDR5 32gb @ 6400mhz 2d ago

Imagine thinking your upvotes matter, you brought up the money thing by calling me "spoiled" lol

7

u/Firefly279 2d ago

Definitely morally gray. Shame on you sir. So easily triggered online.

4

u/Nathan_hale53 Ryzen 5600 GTX 1070 2d ago

It's just kind of pointless. And usually only for marginal gains. At least every other gen upgrades you can really feel the updates but every gen is just gonna meh.
