Discussion Show theft in masjid

My Husband’s shoes were stolen from the local Masjid today at Friday prayer. I tried to console him that the person may have accidentally taken his shoes, but my Mom told me it’s commonplace in Pakistan to have shoes stolen during prayer. My Husband ended up walking home barefoot, in the rain and cold.

I’m wondering why the Masjid’s in Pakistan haven’t thought of a solution to the shoe theft problem if it’s commonplace there?

That doesn’t mean it’s right. If there is a problem that is considered haraam and that could potentially harm someone, we need to think of solutions and take measures to prevent such harm.

At our Masjid, here in North America, we have had men use the women’s bathroom. That’s not okay, so solutions have to be thought of to prevent this. Now for me to say, “Oh, this happens everywhere”, well that’s being dismissive and passive to sin, which is not what Allah SWT encourages. If anything, it is sunnah to change what is sinful.

I didn’t once say it’s OK, my comment was about you, focussing on this being a Pakistani problem when this is pretty universal and honestly whats going to happen anywhere you leave your belongings unattended.

As for a solution, the simple solution is to take a bag with you and just keep your shoes in that, or wear cheap shoes.

Faisal masjid does have a place where you can pay to lock your shoes, I’m sure other larger mosques do as well, but that’s not a reasonable expectation from your average neighbourhood mosque.

I’m not focusing on this being a Pakistani problem. It happened to my Husband in Pakistan, so I posted here. Also, been attending the Mosque for 30 years, never happened to me once in Canada and never heard of it happening to anyone else either. Although a janitor did throw away my colleagues shoes a few weeks ago, which we all thought was bizarre.
