the foundation of what is known as “cowboy culture” in the United States primarily comes from Mexican “vaqueros,” who were skilled horsemen and cattle herders with traditions that were adopted and developed by settlers in the American West, particularly in Texas; essentially, the Mexican vaqueros are considered the originators of the modern cowboy figure.
The Spanish brought the animals, fought them what to do, created the concept then interbreed with the natives making them nearly as European as they are native genetically. If we’re talking influence, I think it’s starts there.
“Rodeos” or public cowboy contest weren’t created until the late 1800s in Arizona and Texas… so American.
Lassos were brought from Spain and originated in North Africa.
Chaps did originate in Spain.
The Spanish poblano is likely the inspiration for the “cowboy hat”
The origin of cowboy boots isn’t well known but likely happened in Texas or Kansas in the late 1800s. A similar boot “the Wellington” was a horse riding boot from Britain dating back to the mid 1800s
Rodeo is the Mexican procedure used to select animals from the wild cattle, prevent them from running amok and cause destruction, prevent them from going wild again by accustoming them to the presence of humans and protect them from cattle rustlers. The rodeo becomes the cattle’s natural home in the wild.
The first rodeo ordinance was passed and implemented by Viceroy Luís de Velasco on October 16, 1551, in Central Mexico.
Mexican vaqueros developed cowboy boots The Mexican cowboy boots only came in three styles, rounded toe, pointed toe, and tribal toes, originating in northern Mexico.
Mexican cowboys introduced chaps to the American Wild West during the 1800s
Stetson’s design was inspired by the wide-brimmed hats worn by the working cowboys (known as vaqueros) of Northern Mexico
You forgot the part about the Mexican “cowboy boots” being inspired by Spanish riding boots. And chaps existing long before Mexico even had cattle. And again the hats that inspired the “cowboy hat” being worn by the original Spanish vaqueros also known as the people that learned similar ideas from other cultures and brought them to the Americas. Just keep choosing where you want to start history from here on out.
