Vance speaks better but is a slimy rat so it kinda cancels out

If you were watching it there’s no way you can say that Vance isn’t doing extremely well, and quite frankly better than Walz. Just gotta hope most people don’t care about Vance and this VP debate.

I’d love to understand how you came to this conclusion. Maybe it’s because I keep up with politics, but every time Vance spoke I was thinking to myself, “he’s just lying or obfuscating”. Walz came off as a sort of normal dude with I think an Everyman sort of opinion on things which communicates well to people who maybe haven’t given much thought to specific issues.

I’d love to hear your breakdown of it though.

Walz seemed nervous and rambled. Trailed on way too long towards the end of his answers which is a classic sign of not being confident in what you’re saying. Constantly looked down at his notes. And generally looked very uncomfortable under the spotlight.

Vance on the other hand was very polished. Direct and concise. Got through every point he was trying to get through. He had one job tonight which was to tie Harris to inflation and immigration, which he consistently hammered home.

By no means was this a Harris/Trump drubbing. Not even close. But Vance just did better. And that’s with me already thinking he’s a sleazy piece of shit.

I’m not a debate person. My wife was in debate from high school to college so I’ll have to ask her. From my non-debate standpoint (and Walz even admitting he’s not a great debater) I thought that he came off more “like able” and “relatable”?

I mean I think his stance on abortion, healthcare, and childcare came off really well because he’s actually provided those things in his state and can speak to them. Vance even conceded on that a few times.

I was actually pleasantly surprised that for the first time since Obama and Romney that BOTH were able to say, “I agree” with the other person that this is the issue. But I feel Walz had a better and more relatable answer than Vance. I guess we’ll see how it plays out tomorrow!

Vance very clearly did debate in high school. I did too, so I can recognize it.

That said, I also remember that debate was considered a nerd thing, and what looks good in debate looks like nerd shit to most people

I’m honestly not sure how tonight came off to the average voters. I’m not the right person to ask. With how I view debates, Vance looked more polished, but Walz was much better on the actual content of the debate. Walz seemed more relatable to me as a person though.

The only normie person I have talked to about the debate was my wife I watched it with. She preferred Walz by a lot, but she also thinks Vance is a massive creep (he is)

The most normie people didn’t watch this, to be honest

Yeah I don't think it will change much. Whoever you think won is probably the person you liked more already. If you still believed MAGA lies going into the debate, you aren't gonna suddenly be like "Wait a minute, Vance is lying!". I think if anything it showed that Vance IS able to put sentences together, which is something?

It's a debate in 2024. It's equal parts interesting, horrifying and comical.
