You can guarantee that Red Bull will sponsor him again when he leaves Ducati. It has happened a few times. I am convinced Red Bull also pay a retainer to their “on hiatus” athletes as well. Best example was when Travis Pastrana sponsored himself for a while (under Nitro Circus).

Marc is very committed to race results and Ducati wouldnt budge from Monster unless Red Bull sponsored the whole team. Also surprising for Monster since they have reduced sponsorships in other sports recently.

When you think about it, it's a bit weird that sugar water companies pay tens of millions of dollars so we can watch guys in leather go really fast

Some do though. You can’t generalize. Literally at every level of sporting athletes drink energy drinks. So clearly it’s working.
