Answered What do you say to shadow banned posters?

What do you say to shadow banned posters when they ask why their posts aren't showing up? I've had a few recently and I'm always uncertain about how much to tell them.

Answered Can we ban trolls?

I’m curious if we’re allowed to ban users for “trolling”. In once case I have a user that hasn’t broken any particular rules, but I don’t like what they posted and it’s not in the spirit of the community. I didn’t provide them with a warning - yet.

Answered Rights of a user whose content was cross-posted to our sub without their "consent"

Our sub has a popular Contributor, let's call her "User A". Also involved is a stranger to the sub, User B. User B posts a lot of image content to both her profile and to other NSFW subs

User A crossposted a profile post of User B into our sub. User B complained in comments and a free-form report, that User A didn't have her consent.

Personally, our gut reaction is that everyone on reddit releases the rights to their content when they hit the Post button. And we should (gently) tell User B to STFU.

We can't find anything in the UA, the Conrent Policy, or the Mod CoC that supports User B directly. Indirectly, of course, there is "Respect the Human".

Thoughts?

Answered I got booted from my own sub by a mod.

iOS. I briefly went inactive because I had lost access to my account temporarily. I added my alt to the mod que from my ‘inactive account’ so I could start it up again. I got a message from a mod saying that they weren’t looking For new mods. Long story short both my accounts got kicked. Where do I go to sort this out? Buddy basically stole my sub

Are animated subreddit icons still a thing? GIFs are not a supported format and APNGs aren't either.

Desktop, though applies to all platforms, I guess.

Answered Mods harassing my sub

There is a similar sub to mine and I am 90 percent sure the mods from that sub joined mine and are reporting all my posts, downvoting, and they even reported ME to crisis for legit no reason.. it was my welcome post 🫠

I know we cannot see our users but how do I get this abuse to stop? They even went as far as to temp b me from the other sub which is fine I don’t care about that one I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just really disheartening on my sub because I want them to stop attacking it.

Is there anything I can do as a mod?! Or if I reach out to Reddit? I’m on mobile web iOs if that matters

Answered The page creator is holding our Subs hostage

The page creator has been privatising and unprivatising the subs over the last few days.

People in the community are reaching out ti me to find out what is going on and I have told them we have requested the pages back from reddit.

Is there anything else we can do in the meantime and help to resolve it.

Answered [Question] What are the lesser-known realities of being a Moderator? “Tales From the Modqueue”, if you will.

What I care about, I improve and protect. Cleaning Reddit’s littered parks is thus preferable to playing there. I plan to volunteer by late summer.

In the meantime, I want to learn beyond the basics. Help this aspiring Mod prepare for the hidden world of modding: the mundane challenges, the quirks, and the insanities.

I am fascinated to hear your stories.

Answered OPs abusing blocking?

Word is that some people like to be the first to post major news/rumours and then "moderate" the comment section by blocking users with undesirable opinions or questions.

I don't think there is, but is there a way to determine whether an OP has someone blocked? On any platform - desktop (old, new, shreddit), mobile... Or a way to prove it for the blocked person? Any workarounds?

Answered Dumb question - What's stopping a user to block all mods of a sub to evade ban when breaking rules?

I have a rule that users can't advertise malware, even if it's not in our sub. Like if they just make a post to their own profile, that's bannable.

So what's stopping someone from blocking all mods so they can't go to their profile to check if they're breaking this rule? Usually I'll just use an alternative account that doesn't have mod perms to check but I'm still curious.

Answered Is anyone using Buy Me A Coffee to monetize your situation? Is that even allowed?

I guess I should start with - is this allowed? There is a pre-set link to Buy Me A Coffee, one to Venmo and maybe some others on the profile social link portion, but I can't find anything about whether we're okay to do it or not.

Have any of you set up a Buy Me A Coffee or other type of tip service for your subreddit(s) that you mod? Do you just have a link on your profile, or are you mentioning it in your sub? Do you think this is a good idea or just plain stupid? Have you received any tips?

I believe this shows up on both Desktop and Mobile (had to add that so I could post this).

Answered Adding captions when posting multiple photos

Mobile web - in a sub I moderate it seems you cannot add captions to photos when posting multiple photos as I can see you can do in other subs. Is there a setting for this or am I just missing something? TIA.

Answered I want to ban a user, but user account was already suspended some time ago

Hi all, a user continuously breaches the sub's rules, so we want to ban them. However, I don't know how to do it, as apparently the account is suspended:

Account suspended

Reddit has suspended this account. Mod notes and previous actions are preserved, but other data is inaccessible.

How can a suspended account still post? And how can I stop them from posting again?

I have no way of doing so either on IOS or Mobile

Answered Can I ban users of another brigading sub who aren't members of my sub?

My sub has a problem with brigading from another sub (their entire MO is to brigade other subs, not just mine). I've already used HiveProtect to block its members from commenting & posting. But that's not the issue. Their users screenshot our content & then report it to Reddit. I'd like to block that sub's members from accessing our sub. Is that possible?

I tried to ban a member of that sub from ours. But since he isn't a member of my sub, he doesn't even display as a user I can block.

Answered Same person harassing with a new account every day

Hi all-

I’m a new mod of a subreddit based on a podcast. There’s a user who posts harassing and threatening content daily. I ban them/remove their comments and posts, they make a new account, rinse and repeat multiple times every day. They always use the same avatar and are clearly the same person as they also reply to the modmail with similar messages, etc.

How can I get rid of this person for good? I tried “automations” but I don’t see any other way outside of keywords to block them from posting.

There’s gotta be a way to do this that I’m missing as a newbie to moderating a sub.

Thanks everyone for any help here. This person is a bit disruptive and irritating to the mod team.

I’m on iOS and can use desktop (Mac) as well.
