Answered Can I ban users of another brigading sub who aren't members of my sub?
My sub has a problem with brigading from another sub (their entire MO is to brigade other subs, not just mine). I've already used HiveProtect to block its members from commenting & posting. But that's not the issue. Their users screenshot our content & then report it to Reddit. I'd like to block that sub's members from accessing our sub. Is that possible?
I tried to ban a member of that sub from ours. But since he isn't a member of my sub, he doesn't even display as a user I can block.

think brigading is against TOS. You should report the sub

It’s very hard to prove. Essentially if the people you suspect aren’t members of the targeted sub.

You can't ban anyone from accessing your sub as a reader, since Reddit is public-facing. You'd have to take your entire sub private.
But you can set up automation to ban anyone who posts in a specific sub, and you can always manually ban any user by going to https://old.reddit.com/r/SUBREDDITNAME/about/banned/ and entering their information therein.

That link leads to a page "Forbidden." There's no way to enter any information. Is there an alternate way to do this?

That link, or the correct link where you replace "subredditname" in that url with your actual sub? They were just providing the link but you still have to direct it to your sub for it to load the banned page on old reddit.

Thank you. That worked. Don't know why I didn't notice "Subredditname"

There are bots some subreddits use for that function.
You can ban individuals manually as well

Found regex match: brigading from another sub
It looks like you're asking about brigading. Brigading is when a group of users, generally outsiders to the targeted subreddit, "invade" a specific subreddit and flood it with posts, comments or downvotes, in order to troll, manipulate, or interfere with the targeted community. Your subreddit could be flooded by spam posts.
Subreddit settings work best in a cache-cleared desktop browser. (Limited option: mobile browser on desktop view.)

You can, but why? Do they even know about your sub? Are they likely to visit it?

u/richards1052 Nov 26 '24
Yes, my original post notes their brigading including posting screenshots of our content & reporting it to Reddit admins in order to get our sub banned. They do this with other subs as well.

That's very interesting. Report them to Reddit for harassment. Banning them will only stop them posting and commenting on your sub, not viewing and screenshotting your sub.
Edit: my sub has a similar problem that is unresolved by reporting to Reddit as harassment. You may have to just let it go eventually.

reporting it to Reddit admins in order to get our sub banned
This is what confuses me, mostly... is there something happening in your sub that is against Reddit policy, or something, where the admins might ban it if they only "saw it."
Why are you afraid of the Reddit admins looking at your sub?
Nothing you can do to prevent that, AFAIK... even if you sub is private or hidden, the admins have free reign.

A ban can only limit the users ability to post and comment in your sub. They still have the ability to view your content, I don't know of any way around this.
