I have thought about this for a while. I know people talk about Boone all the time. But he was just too “short term” for him to be the guy for Raylan. If I were writing the “script” I think I would have Quarels have been “that guy” for Raylan. I even know how I would have played it.
1) Quarels was set up as pure evil. He was well cast for that too. Keep him going on that track. 2) He had the wrist gun thing too. That was a good “gimmick” that could have given him the “edge” on Raylan to let him shoot Raylan in the “hat” as it were. Raylan “playing it smart” would get the kill. Same shot almost.
You would just need to make some story changes to prolong Quarels or get him out of the way of Harlan. He was the guy with the speed and the backstory that had us hating him and invested enough. Boone was just not that big of a deal

It doesn't fill the giant Justified hole in my heart but a decent alternative while we wait for more Justified. Plus, Kendall Crowe has a starring role and he's really good.

I am 9 episodes in and I have no idea what is happening and who is who and who is doing what.

As discussed previously I am very partial to the exchange between Wynn and Boyd where Wynn asks if Theo will like their excuses for losing Quarles up in "inbred holler" and Boyd replies "I'm gonna let that one go". I love that not just for the language but also of course the delivery on each.
Got me thinking about not just favorite quotes in the series, but favorite exchanges. I also greatly like:
"Maybe we should put an APB out on Cab Calloway."
"I think he's dead."
"Then he should be easy to find."
What is your favorite character repartee?

I was trying to figure out how Boone knew Raylan was fast and everybody says it's when they met in episode one and Raylan outdrew him. I never remembered seeing that so I rented it again just for that reason (Pilot ep1) and watched the entire thing and of course there was no Boone anywhere. Can anybody help shed some light where he tried to draw on Raylan and Raylan was obviously too fast?
Thanks!!!

Have fun with this. Only including the main villains (excluding the minor bad guys and I only have 6 spots). Also excluding Boyd cause we love him anyway. Not sure what the criteria is for voting you can decide (villainy, coolness, overall badness).

I was re-watching the scene in "A Guy Walks Into A Bar" where Quarles tells Donovan his backstory. The cuts to Wynn looking unsettled are priceless.

I don’t know if anyone has been, but I just went over the summer. It was a nice vacation. Lots of mountains and hollers and interesting stuff all over that area. It isn’t anything like the show though lol.

I've been watching a lot of A Team recently and I've come to think T.O looks quite a bit like Dirk Benedict, at least in that series, and their delivery of dialogue is similar too. Can't help but think he'd have been a better choice in the big screen remake than Bradley Cooper.
Sorry that this is more T.O related than Justified. Delete if necessary.

What are your recommendations?
This is very similar to justified. I feel the writer created new characters based on Raylen, the Bennetts, etc then shuffled them around changed times locations and genders.
Which I love! With a lot of research I found a book like Justified! Ever read it?

I think Mags was going to poison Loretta. When Loretta walks in that last time just before the big shootout, Mags asks her, "You thirsty, darlin'?" The camera shot was on the cabinet where Mags stores her "apple pie" and her poisoned glasses. Loretta turning down a drink there likely saved her life.

I know it looks simple (I’m sure it is) but any advice is appreciated

Stumbled on this some weeks ago searching for my first ever western to watch and all I can say is, WOW. How come nobody ever talks about this show? It's perfect, it grips you from the very first episode up to the last. I finished it some days ago and now I'm on the last episode of Primeval.
I've never watched a show where it had me rooting for both the protagonist and the antagonist. The dynamic between Boyd and Raylan chefs kiss, I loved it when they worked together and when they were at odds, I wanted both of them to win. I can't rave about it enough, I know there are other westerns out there but I'm afraid I've started off with something that set the bar very high.
